00:02:39.639 --> 00:02:41.060 in which we look at other people 00:02:41.060 --> 00:02:44.680 and value them as less than 00:02:44.680 --> 00:02:46.939 based on social hierarchies like race, verse 22, 23, 00:03:06.339 --> 00:03:07.559 where he told us, 00:03:08.299 --> 00:03:09.559 pure religion is this, 00:03:10.239 --> 00:03:12.159 to visit the widow and the orphan 00:03:12.159 --> 00:03:12.879 in their affliction, 00:03:13.119 --> 00:03:13.679 so mercy, 00:03:14.239 --> 00:03:15.959 and to keep oneself unstained 00:03:15.959 --> 00:03:16.959 from the idols of the world, 00:03:17.659 --> 00:03:18.879 obedience, holiness. 00:03:19.939 --> 00:03:22.679 And so today he gives us a positive vision. 00:03:23.099 --> 00:03:25.239 If you've rooted out partiality in your is the most neglected aspect 00:03:50.520 --> 00:03:52.520 of theology focus 00:03:52.520 --> 00:03:54.360 in all of Protestant thought. 00:03:55.539 --> 00:03:57.039 And that may be true, 00:03:57.039 --> 00:03:57.459 I'm not sure, 00:03:57.579 --> 00:03:59.179 but it's important 00:03:59.179 --> 00:04:00.679 that we can sometimes 00:04:00.679 --> 00:04:01.979 forget about good works. see that a person 00:04:48.300 --> 00:04:49.000 is justified 00:04:49.000 --> 00:04:50.639 by works 00:04:50.639 --> 00:04:52.099 and not by faith alone. 00:04:52.899 --> 00:04:53.199 Now, 00:04:53.259 --> 00:04:53.919 that sounds 00:04:53.919 --> 00:04:55.919 like a direct contradiction 00:04:55.919 --> 00:04:58.500 to the Apostle Paul 00:04:58.500 --> 00:04:59.560 in the book of is justified 00:05:09.659 --> 00:05:11.060 not by faith alone, 00:05:11.159 --> 00:05:12.240 but also by works. 00:05:12.240 --> 00:05:13.800 And so, 00:05:13.879 --> 00:05:14.439 that has been 00:07:16.439 --> 00:07:16.539 Well, 00:07:16.560 --> 00:07:17.560 he's using the word justify 00:07:17.560 --> 00:07:18.659 in a different sense. 00:07:18.719 --> 00:07:19.079 And the word, 00:07:19.620 --> 00:07:21.139 the sense that he's using it 00:07:21.139 --> 00:07:21.739 is in, 00:07:21.859 --> 00:07:23.339 is the way we use it 00:07:23.339 --> 00:07:24.279 very commonly today. 00:07:24.399 --> 00:07:25.519 Most of us don't use it 00:07:25.519 --> 00:07:26.899 in the way Paul is using it 00:07:26.899 --> 00:07:27.819 in normal speech. 00:07:28.120 --> 00:07:29.500 But we use local church 00:09:47.399 --> 00:09:49.120 who are coming and saying, 00:09:49.339 --> 00:09:50.740 I'm hungry and I'm thirsty 00:09:50.740 --> 00:09:51.659 and I'm cold. 00:09:51.659 --> 00:09:54.059 And people in the local church 00:09:54.059 --> 00:09:54.500 at the time 00:09:54.500 --> 00:09:55.259 are simply saying, 00:09:55.579 --> 00:09:56.579 well, peace be with you. 00:09:56.779 --> this pattern continues, 00:10:08.539 --> 00:10:09.339 then it is showing 00:10:09.339 --> 00:10:11.240 that your faith is dead faith. 00:10:12.319 --> 00:10:14.319 So faith actually works itself out
