who were instrumental in helping to support and encourage the work of God through the Apostle Paul, 00:00:37.260 --> 00:00:41.460 but also in strengthening the church that was there in Colossae. 00:00:42.659 --> 00:00:50.600 As we think about the Apostle Paul, as I think about his life and testimony, I think that the one word that comes to my mind is the word disciple maker. 00:00:51.520 --> 00:00:55.140 He was the quintessential disciple maker. 00:00:55.140 --> 00:01:05.079 And I imagine if we were to take some time this morning and think about the specific names of those who were part of Paul's ministry team, 00:01:05.340 --> 00:01:07.819 a number of those names would come to your mind. 00:01:08.400 --> 00:01:16.980 Maybe names like Mark, or names like Barnabas, or maybe even Silas, or maybe Titus, or Timothy. 00:01:17.120 --> 00:01:20.420 Those kinds of names that would come to your mind. 00:01:20.420 --> 00:01:31.780 But do you realize there were as many as 63 different names that the Apostle Paul alludes to throughout his letters in the Pauline epistles, 00:01:31.920 --> 00:01:33.540 those letters that he wrote to the churches. 00:01:33.820 --> 00:01:35.120 63 names. 00:01:36.379 --> 00:01:39.560 Individuals that were partners with him in ministry. 00:01:40.379 --> 00:01:41.740 People who shared the load. 00:01:41.739 --> 00:01:50.500 People who walked beside and people who were working with him as they sought to carry out this work of Christ. 00:01:51.179 --> 00:01:57.119 Names like Epaphroditus, Epaphras, Tychicus, Aristarchus, and Justice. 00:01:58.079 --> 00:02:01.199 Maybe the name Priscilla in Aquila comes to your mind. 00:02:02.000 --> 00:02:05.319 Apollos and many, many others who might come to your mind. 00:02:05.319 --> 00:02:14.840 Those who were known and those who were maybe unknown that God used to carry out his work through the Apostle Paul to the known world. 00:02:15.900 --> 00:02:24.199 Of course, this list doesn't include four names of those who were started well but then didn't finish. 00:02:25.019 --> 00:02:28.219 Those like Hymenaeus and Alexandra. 00:02:28.879 --> 00:02:30.379 Fagellus or Hermogenes. 00:02:30.379 --> 00:02:39.319 Those who started well in the gospel service and for whatever reason they abandoned the faith and they jettisoned this work that God had called them to. 00:02:40.479 --> 00:02:43.419 The Apostle Paul describes his co-laborers in a number of different ways. 00:02:43.579 --> 00:02:45.680 He gives them various designations. 00:02:45.819 --> 00:02:51.639 He calls them fellow laborers and fellow soldiers and fellow ministers and fellow prisoners. 00:02:51.639 --> 00:02:59.479 I wonder how did a guy who was so busy in ministry build so many relationships. 00:03:00.419 --> 00:03:03.079 So many strong partners in the work. 00:03:04.539 --> 00:03:10.939 We find that his ministry strategy is kind of laid out for us in Colossians chapter 1 verses verse 28. 00:03:11.839 --> 00:03:12.239 It says, 00:03:12.240 --> 00:03:23.580 That was Paul's desire. 00:03:23.860 --> 00:03:33.520 Not only to communicate the gospel but to lead the people who came to faith in the gospel to mature and stable faith. 00:03:33.520 --> 00:03:38.420 Those who were partners with him in the work that God had called him to. 00:03:39.740 --> 00:03:49.740 We've is sent across the known world to support the churches that the Apostle Paul had helped to build. 00:14:18.580 --> 00:14:19.600 He's in Colossae. 00:14:19.680 --> 00:14:20.480 He's in Ephesus.
