feel dizzy, wobbly in your knees, 00:03:51.659 --> 00:03:55.199 because this power is so much greater than you knew even existed. 00:03:57.120 --> 00:04:01.099 I got to have that type of experience when we traveled to South America 00:04:01.099 --> 00:04:05.000 and we saw between the borders of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, 00:04:05.000 --> 00:04:08.419 a waterfall called the Iguazu Falls, 00:04:08.539 --> 00:04:12.500 and all this water from all these rivers converging at this one point. 00:04:14.020 --> 00:04:15.719 And where these waters build up, 00:04:16.139 --> 00:04:22.180 they constructed this dam that set a world record in the year 2016. 00:04:23.379 --> 00:04:25.699 It's called the Itaipu Dam. 00:04:26.699 --> 00:04:29.160 And it did what no one thought was possible. 00:04:29.160 --> 00:04:33.880 This dam, serving as a hydroelectric plant, 00:04:34.000 --> 00:04:41.200 it generated and captured more electricity than the massive Three Gorges Dam in China Itaipu Dam could power the entire nation of Paraguay for an entire year. 00:05:13.460 --> 00:05:16.580 Can you imagine standing before this kind of power? 00:05:20.680 --> 00:05:24.300 The way that the Apostle Paul is writing to the churches, 00:05:25.420 --> 00:05:30.080 he has seen something of God's power that he wants them to know. 00:05:31.259 --> 00:05:34.040 He's bearing witness by the inspiration of the Spirit, 00:05:34.100 --> 00:05:36.500 and they're receiving this letter as Scripture. 00:05:37.500 --> 00:05:41.340 And the Spirit is using this ministry of this Word of God, 00:05:41.560 --> 00:05:45.520 this letter, to cause their faith to expand. 00:05:45.519 --> 00:05:50.339 In 2 Corinthians 12, verses 2 and 4, 00:05:50.740 --> 00:05:56.259 Paul tells of how God allowed him to experience what he called the third heaven. 00:05:57.639 --> 00:06:00.959 Above the city of Ephesus, above the city of Corinth, 00:06:01.659 --> 00:06:02.859 above the city of Rome, 00:06:03.839 --> 00:06:06.439 above the first heavens, which is the atmosphere of earth, 00:06:06.839 --> 00:06:09.019 above the second heavens, which is the stars, 00:06:10.099 --> 00:06:11.099 above all of that. 00:06:11.100 --> 00:06:14.920 The third heaven, the spiritual realm. 00:06:15.640 --> 00:06:18.300 And even there, above all the angels of the spiritual realm, 00:06:19.220 --> 00:06:22.560 where Christ, in his resurrected body, 00:06:23.560 --> 00:06:26.480 sits enthroned, the Ancient of Days, 00:06:27.160 --> 00:06:28.040 the Son of Man. 00:06:29.760 --> 00:06:34.560 And from there, he rules in power over all the earth. 00:06:34.560 --> 00:06:43.160 Paul tasted a power that no uninspired earthly words could ever describe. 00:06:44.620 --> 00:06:46.500 And I think this is what he's praying. 00:06:47.000 --> 00:06:49.620 The Spirit will cause the church to know. 00:06:51.240 --> 00:06:55.819 He prays that the church may know more of this power, 00:06:56.340 --> 00:06:58.840 and that it's at work in you, church. 00:06:59.660 --> 00:07:01.399 That's the title of our sermon today. 00:07:01.399 --> 00:07:04.379 May you know this power. 00:07:05.560 --> 00:07:10.280 Following his words, I hope to open this up on four different emphases 00:07:10.280 --> 00:07:13.800 that Paul gives on this great power of God, 00:07:13.899 --> 00:07:17.759 so that you, 00:07:38.560 --> 00:07:41.700 and what they thought were powerful spells 00:07:41.700 --> 00:07:44.340 that would invoke cosmic powers. 00:07:44.339 --> 00:07:49.379 And Paul says in verse 16, 00:07:49.379 --> 00:07:50.699 I pray for you. 00:07:50.699 --> 00:07:54.420 Verse 18, that the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, 00:07:55.079 --> 00:07:56.040 you may know. 00:07:56.800 --> 00:07:57.860 Look at verse 19. 00:07:58.719 --> 00:08:04.680 What is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe? 00:08:04.680 --> 00:08:09.180 According to the working of his directed toward you for your good. 00:10:13.480 --> 00:10:23.480 God's power surges unceasingly to strengthen and sustain the life of his disciples. 00:10:23.480 --> 00:10:32.019 Every person who is a believer in Jesus is a recipient of this power of God through Jesus, our mediator. 00:10:32.019 --> 00:10:40.539 It's the same exceeding power of God that had toppled over the worship of demons in the city of Ephesus. 00:10:40.539 --> 00:10:48.199 This is the same immense power that caused spiritually dead sinners to believe the gospel of Christ. 00:10:48.679 --> 00:10:49.240 It's for you. 00:10:49.240 --> 00:10:58.799 And it's the same immeasurable power of God that sent and sustained Paul and the missionaries who traveled there and preached the gospel to them 00:10:58.799 --> something you can count on. 00:11:24.439 --> 00:11:28.419 Rather than piling on other examples of how God is powerful, 00:11:28.559 --> 00:11:32.679 though Paul is an expert of God's word, he could have drawn hundreds of these. 00:11:32.679 --> 00:11:38.819 Notice how Paul next in verse 20 goes straight for the most forceful, 00:11:39.319 --> 00:11:45.199 the most irrefutable, the most undeniable, the most dependable argument of all. 00:11:46.279 --> 00:11:55.539 He says, I pray that you, church, who believe that you will know by your own experience the working of that same power, 00:11:55.639 --> 00:12:02.559 look at verse 20, which he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead. 00:12:02.679 --> 00:12:08.019 This is how dependable the power of God is. 00:12:09.259 --> 00:12:17.179 It's so dependable that Christ factually trusted his life to God's power. 00:12:17.179 --> 00:12:25.219 The creator of all who took on flesh. 00:12:26.559 --> 00:12:30.899 The giver of 00:17:27.000 In his glorified body, Jesus taught how all of the scriptures pointed to him. 00:17:27.379 --> 00:17:31.500 Then in the same body, he ascended from earth to heaven, 00:17:31.599 --> 00:17:35.699 where he dwells physically with God, who is spirit. 00:17:35.700 --> 00:17:40.440 When you and I wonder if God's power is dependable, 00:17:41.279 --> 00:17:45.120 Paul says, look to your risen Savior, Jesus Christ. 00:17:45.900 --> 00:17:53.319 This is the most dependable evidence of God's power that powerfully works in you. 00:17:53.920 --> 00:17:57.000 This is what he wants the church in Ephesus to know. 00:17:57.380 --> 00:18:02.120 And this is the power that Christ now in his glorified body prays, 00:18:02.119 --> 00:18:05.979 you will personally know is working in you as
