somewhere that they cannot follow him. 00:00:21.240 --> 00:00:29.640 And it's plain to see so far that the disciples are having a difficult time understanding exactly where Jesus is going. 00:00:30.179 --> 00:00:35.640 We pick up the conversation with the remarks of Thomas, one of the disciples of Jesus. 00:00:36.340 --> 00:00:42.219 We're in the Gospel of John, chapter 14, verse 5. 00:00:46.740 --> 00:00:48.280 Thomas said to Jesus, 00:00:49.200 --> 00:00:54.000 Lord, we don't know where you're going, so how can we know the way? 00:00:55.740 --> 00:00:59.219 Jesus answered, I am considered what it meant that Jesus is the way to the Father. 00:01:30.319 --> 00:01:31.739 Boring the words of another, 00:01:33.680 --> 00:01:37.819 Jesus himself is the way to God. 00:01:38.819 --> 00:01:44.480 He didn't come just to light a path for us or to blaze a trail for us 00:01:44.480 --> 00:01:46.820 so that we could follow in his tracks. 00:01:46.820 --> 00:01:51.840 Jesus himself is the way to God, to the Father. 00:01:51.980 --> 00:01:55.820 It's through relationship with him, on his terms, 00:01:56.079 --> 00:01:59.520 that we can get to God. 00:01:59.519 --> 00:02:03.939 That we can enter the Father's house, as we heard last Sunday. 00:02:03.939 --> 00:02:10.280 That we can take up residence with God forever in his place and live with him. 00:02:11.120 --> 00:02:14.979 And there's no other way, says Jesus, except through me. 00:02:14.979 --> 00:02:17.179 It's quite a claim. 00:02:18.619 --> 00:02:21.159 It's quite an answer to Thomas' question. 00:02:22.519 --> 00:02:26.159 But now this morning, we notice that there's a little bit more to this answer. 00:02:28.039 --> 00:02:31.819 Not only did Jesus claim to be the way, but more. 00:02:31.939 --> 00:02:33.819 He says, I am the truth. 00:02:35.780 --> 00:02:37.739 And I am the life. 00:02:37.740 --> 00:02:42.100 The claim to be the way to God. 00:02:42.200 --> 00:02:44.100 I mean, that's a pretty lofty claim. 00:02:44.480 --> 00:02:48.400 But these other two things that Jesus claims in one sense, 00:02:48.480 --> 00:02:49.640 they seem almost greater. 00:02:50.920 --> 00:02:51.879 I mean, think about this. 00:02:51.980 --> 00:02:54.480 Jesus says, I am the truth. 00:02:57.280 --> 00:03:00.420 I'm going to borrow again from the poetic words of someone else. 00:03:05.300 --> 00:03:07.480 The claim to speak the truth. 00:03:07.740 --> 00:03:09.640 Good men applaud. 00:03:11.520 --> 00:03:13.080 I claim much more. 00:03:14.240 --> 00:03:16.500 I am the truth of God. something wrong. 00:07:37.739 --> 00:07:42.919 Or to discover something that he's up to that's duplicitous or even malicious. 00:07:43.500 --> 00:07:48.579 Something that he's doing for his own relationship with guilt. 00:15:07.459 --> 00:15:17.240 It's when we see the truth of what we've done that we feel guilt the strongest. 00:15:17.240 --> 00:15:20.379 And we don't like feeling guilty.
