00:00:34.980 But you know, as He was here, He realized, He allowed us to understand and realize the importance of the fact 00:00:34.980 --> 00:00:39.700 that it's just not said He was alive, but that He is alive. 00:00:40.179 --> 00:00:47.960 You know, because it's important to know that Jesus wanted His disciples and those there to know for sure. 00:00:48.040 --> 00:00:51.980 They didn't want Him just to think, well the tomb was empty, therefore He must be alive. 00:00:52.439 --> 00:00:57.060 We're going to look today at the fact that He wanted them to know that He was alive. 00:00:57.460 --> there's something about a validation. 00:01:15.760 --> 00:01:18.799 And I witnessed testimony that says, hey, this happened. 00:01:18.799 --> 00:01:20.859 This is a reality. 00:01:21.420 --> 00:01:24.140 This is exactly what took place. 00:01:24.359 --> 00:01:27.479 And you know, today many people question the resurrection. 00:01:27.879 --> 00:01:35.620 And we can't go to the tomb and see the cloth there that was laying and the napkin folded. 00:01:35.780 --> 00:01:39.819 We can't see those things with our own eyes. 00:01:39.819 --> 00:01:46.099 But we do have the testimony of many in Scripture that says, yes, I did see it. 00:01:46.599 --> 00:01:50.299 I do know that Jesus rose from the dead. 00:01:50.419 --> 00:01:56.379 As a matter of fact, the Scripture reveals that for the next 40 days, Jesus met with many people. 00:01:56.979 --> 00:02:01.679 The next 40 days after this, Jesus met with His disciples. 00:02:01.859 --> 00:02:03.239 He met with other individuals. 00:02:03.459 --> 00:02:07.819 As a matter of fact, the Scripture tells us that at one time there was 500 at once. 00:02:07.819 --> 00:02:11.939 And I'm just always thinking to myself whenever I read that, who could argue with that? 00:02:11.979 --> 00:02:15.719 If you get 500 people to agree on something, that's a big task. 00:02:17.099 --> 00:02:21.039 If you had 500 that says, yes, I saw Jesus alive, that's pretty good testimony. 00:02:22.019 --> 00:02:23.479 That's a powerful testimony. 00:02:23.719 --> 00:02:25.840 That's stronger than what one person says. 00:02:26.439 --> 00:02:27.759 understand the events around the resurrection, 00:04:36.339 --> 00:04:44.619 we need to summarize the Gospel accounts because each supplies some important details about the events of that day. 00:04:45.359 --> 00:04:53.500 You know, all four of the Gospels give a little different perspective and little different details of the event. 00:04:53.500 --> 00:04:59.500 You know, and that's another validation that we have that what they say is true because, you know, 00:04:59.699 --> 00:05:03.779 if everybody matched up every detail exactly, it would cause people to question. 00:05:04.620 --> 00:05:08.480 I question if I see things just are repeated and they're exactly the same. 00:05:09.079 --> 00:05:14.180 You know, if you were going to see an accident out here and the police got a report and everybody said the same thing, 00:05:14.220 --> 00:05:16.060 the police would be questioning what was happening. 00:05:16.879 --> 00:05:20.319 Because some people pick up on a different detail than somebody else. 00:05:20.319 --> 00:05:26.459 Somebody's privy to a different angle of something that happened that somebody else didn't know about. 00:05:26.680 --> 00:05:30.180 And when they get all that, that's how they compile that information to say, 00:05:30.279 --> 00:05:32.319 okay, now we can say what happened. 00:05:32.719 --> 00:05:35.399 Because we have all the angles, all the direction. 00:05:35.540 --> 00:05:42.699 The four Gospels give us those angles of direction upon the resurrection to help us know and to see. 00:05:42.699 --> 00:05:48.199 And so as we understand this morning that it began here very simply, 00:05:48.339 --> 00:05:50.000 all of them begin at the same place. 00:05:50.000 --> 00:05:55.920 And that was in the early morning hours when the women traveled from Bethany towards Jerusalem. 00:05:56.660 --> 00:06:02.180 You know, and we find that was important and information to know that these ladies had taken off 00:06:02.180 --> 00:06:07.980 and they were going to, they brought the spices and the things that they were going to anoint the body of Jesus with. 00:06:09.639 --> 00:06:14.040 But at the time they were traveling and wondering who was going to open the tomb. 00:06:14.040 --> 00:06:21.540 And during that time we find that God was already working because as they traveled to the tomb, 00:06:22.420 --> 00:06:27.720 it was being opened by an angel, which caused the guards to panic and run, 00:06:28.400 --> 00:06:31.360 leaving the tomb unguarded and empty. 00:06:32.060 --> 00:06:34.720 You know, we find that two angels were given instructions, 00:06:35.080 --> 00:06:37.060 were there to give instructions to the women. 00:06:37.060 --> 00:06:40.839 And they said, go and tell others, especially Peter, that what? 00:06:41.259 --> 00:06:43.780 Jesus is alive. 00:06:44.740 --> 00:06:46.780 To let them know that he's alive. 00:06:48.019 --> 00:06:51.519 Peter and John race back towards the tomb and find it empty. 00:06:52.360 --> 00:06:59.720 And they just return back to the room where we're going to find that they were at the end of the day. 00:06:59.720 --> 00:07:02.780 But now Mary Magdalene also returned to the tomb. 00:07:04.120 --> 00:07:08.560 She went back to the tomb and John's gospel gives us the details. 00:07:09.000 --> 00:07:11.700 And Mark just summarizes the events. 00:07:11.900 --> 00:07:17.780 But I want you to understand that here's Mary Magdalene in a time of despair. 00:07:18.340 --> 00:07:20.640 He was revealed to the despairing. 00:07:20.740 --> 00:07:22.900 I mean, she's there weeping outside the tomb. 00:07:23.960 --> 00:07:24.700 She's there. 00:07:24.699 --> 00:07:27.939 Peter and John have left and went back. 00:07:28.019 --> 00:07:32.659 And here she is just outside the tomb, despairing of what had taken place. 00:07:33.360 --> 00:07:37.159 Standing there over and just contemplating what had happened, 00:07:37.339 --> 00:07:38.800 questioning the situation, 00:07:39.639 --> 00:07:43.519 desiring to find where they had taken Jesus' body, 00:07:43.620 --> 00:07:46.939 even though she had seen and heard the angel in the tomb earlier, 00:07:47.480 --> 00:07:50.759 it still was not real to her what had taken place. 00:07:51.879 --> 00:07:54.560 Because Jesus was the one that changed her life. 00:07:54.560 --> 00:07:55.280 So dramatically. 00:07:56.439 --> 00:07:57.399 I want you to understand, 00:07:57.519 --> 00:08:03.699 Mary Magdalene is one whose life changed dramatically because of Jesus. 00:08:03.939 --> 00:08:10.199 Notice here in our text of how it displays Mary Magdalene here. 00:08:10.300 --> 00:08:11.699 Notice here in verse 9, 00:08:12.120 --> 00:08:12.459 it says, 00:08:12.600 --> 00:08:14.319 He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, 00:08:14.399 --> 00:08:15.600 out of whom he had done what? 00:08:15.699 --> 00:08:17.920 Cast seven devils. 00:08:17.920 --> 00:08:19.980 You know, 00:08:19.980 --> 00:08:25.020 it's noted that her encounter with Jesus changed her life. 00:08:25.699 --> 00:08:25.960 You know, 00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:32.480 we understand that because of the seven devils that were in possession and possessing her, 00:08:32.600 --> 00:08:36.279 that she was probably involved in some things that she probably shouldn't have been. 00:08:37.000 --> 00:08:37.240 You know, 00:08:37.240 --> 00:08:40.940 some occultic practices and things of that nature, 00:08:41.080 --> 00:08:44.840 that of witchcraft and sorceries or necromancy. 00:08:45.080 --> 00:08:46.799 And we see all these things. 00:08:46.960 --> 00:08:49.620 It's not about that dynamic, 00:08:49.620 --> 00:08:51.799 because I think she might have been religious. 00:08:51.799 --> 00:08:52.339 But you know what? 00:08:52.399 --> 00:08:52.679 Oftentimes, 00:08:52.859 --> 00:08:53.559 religious people, 00:08:53.639 --> 00:08:55.919 even if they dabble in things they shouldn't dabble in, 00:08:56.139 --> 00:08:58.500 and they get involved in things that they shouldn't, 00:08:58.859 --> 00:09:01.399 because we ought to avoid those things. 00:09:01.519 --> 00:09:02.919 But I want you to see here, 00:09:03.459 --> 00:09:05.719 that that was where she was. 00:09:06.120 --> 00:09:08.899 And we don't have the circumstances of what took place, 00:09:08.959 --> 00:09:12.459 but just a simple statement that Jesus 00:09:50.440 her sins, 00:09:50.500 --> 00:09:53.000 which are many are forgiven for she loved much, 00:09:53.279 --> 00:09:54.720 but to whom little is forgiven, 00:09:54.840 --> 00:09:55.960 the same loveth little. 00:09:56.879 --> 00:09:57.100 You know, 00:09:57.120 --> 00:09:58.240 sometimes that's the fact. 00:09:58.299 --> 00:10:00.639 Sometimes we forget what Christ has done for us. stood without the sepulcher weeping, 00:11:30.379 --> 00:11:31.220 and as she wept, 00:11:31.279 --> 00:11:33.199 she stooped down and looked into the sepulcher, 00:11:33.539 --> 00:11:35.039 and --> 00:13:23.820 But John says something, 00:13:24.480 --> 00:13:25.840 and I think this is one of those things, 00:13:26.040 --> 00:13:27.899 that all he said was Mary. 00:13:28.200 --> 00:13:30.519 I think it was probably in the same tone of voice, 00:13:30.519 --> 00:13:33.100 that he had mentioned her by name many times. 00:13:33.100 --> 00:13:35.220 Because you know what happened? 00:13:56.860 --> 00:14:00.639 it's interesting that Mary was the first one to see the resurrected Savior. 00:14:00.639 --> 00:14:03.919 She was the first one. 00:14:04.980 --> 00:14:05.179 You know, 00:14:05.340 --> 00:14:07.539 Mark tells us that it was first. 00:14:08.740 --> 00:14:09.779 He tells us this, 00:14:09.819 --> 00:14:12.539 and when Jesus had risen early on the first day of the week, 00:14:13.000 --> 00:14:17.580 we find that He appeared first to Mary Magdalene. 00:14:18.980 --> 00:14:19.259 You know, 00:14:19.379 --> 00:14:21.919 I was asking myself a question on this, 00:14:21.980 --> 00:14:22.679 of just thinking through, 00:14:22.759 --> 00:14:24.379 why did He appear to Mary first? 00:14:25.759 --> 00:14:26.240 You know, 00:14:26.279 --> 00:14:28.240 sometimes in Scripture it's good to ask questions. 00:14:28.939 --> 00:14:29.720 You know what? 00:14:29.720 --> 00:14:31.879 Because I think she was the one wanting to draw nigh. 00:14:32.899 --> 00:14:35.100 She was the one that wanted to be close to her Savior. 00:14:35.680 --> 00:14:38.040 She was the one that went back and said, 00:14:38.120 --> 00:14:38.279 no, 00:14:38.360 --> 00:14:39.240 I want to 73 and verse 28. 00:15:06.000 --> 00:15:07.560 The Bible tells us this, 00:15:07.759 --> 00:15:08.899 and it makes it clear, 00:15:09.040 --> 00:15:11.519 but it is good for me to draw near to God.
