over these parables to have an understanding, a better understanding, of the teachings of Christ. 00:01:38.400 --> 00:01:42.219 Many of us, we may know some of these parables. 00:01:42.900 --> 00:01:44.780 Maybe it's your first time hearing it. 00:01:45.300 --> 00:01:52.000 But in all of these parables, there is simplicity, but there's also depth. 00:01:52.000 --> 00:02:01.219 And our learned previously in the parable of the lost coin, 00:05:21.540 --> 00:05:25.160 the woman that was searching diligently, sweeping her house. 00:05:26.139 --> 00:05:28.680 And there's a connection that we find here in Scripture 00:05:28.680 --> 00:05:32.879 with the parable of the lost sheep and also with the lost coin. 00:05:34.019 --> 00:05:38.180 We think about these things that we lose and how it's sentimental to us. 00:05:38.920 --> 00:05:41.699 And how did it feel to be in that moment? 00:05:41.699 --> 00:05:44.120 Think of the last time you lost something, 00:05:44.219 --> 00:05:47.360 and I hope it wasn't today or this morning or yesterday for that matter. 00:05:48.060 --> 00:05:53.399 How did it feel to really search for something that was of great value that you find that lost thing. 00:06:03.159 --> 00:06:05.839 And upon finding it, then how did you feel? 00:06:05.839 --> 00:06:11.339 Well, I hope you all felt good when you found that lost thing. 00:06:12.639 --> 00:06:13.639 We think about it. 00:06:14.599 --> 00:06:19.599 If we care so deeply about searching for that which is lost, 00:06:20.379 --> 00:06:25.979 how much more does God care for those who are spiritually lost? 00:06:25.980 --> 00:06:30.080 When we think of the story of Jonah, 00:06:31.100 --> 00:06:33.220 the first sermon series that I did here, 00:06:34.060 --> 00:06:35.860 there's the part where the prophet, 00:06:36.720 --> 00:06:40.120 God provides a plant and gives him shade. 00:06:41.200 --> 00:06:45.280 And he loves his plant, and then eventually the plant dies. 00:06:46.200 --> 00:06:48.480 But God was showing Jonah the prophet, 00:06:48.480 --> 00:06:52.040 if you cared so much about this plant, 00:06:52.120 --> 00:06:54.000 how much more do I care for my people? 00:06:54.759 --> 00:06:57.120 Which is very similar to what we're seeing here. 00:06:57.920 --> 00:07:00.720 We care so much about the things that we lose, 00:07:01.080 --> collectors and sinners were all drawing near to him. 00:08:37.879 --> 00:08:39.820 And the Pharisees and the scribes, 00:08:39.940 --> 00:08:40.960 they grumbled, 00:08:41.820 --> 00:08:42.980 saying what? 00:08:44.059 --> 00:08:48.200 This man receives sinners and eats with them. 00:08:49.620 --> 00:08:51.179 What's so wrong with eating with sinners? 00:08:51.720 --> 00:08:52.659 We read that. 00:08:52.659 --> 00:08:54.480 But it goes on further, 00:08:54.639 --> 00:08:57.860 where he told them this parable. 00:08:58.819 --> 00:09:00.219 What man of you, 00:09:00.959 --> 00:09:02.219 having 100 sheep, 00:09:02.899 --> 00:09:05.279 if he has lost one of them, 00:09:05.919 --> 00:09:08.539 does not leave the 99 in the open country 00:09:08.539 --> 00:09:10.360 and go after the one that is lost 00:09:10.360 --> 00:09:11.480 until he finds it? 00:09:12.299 --> 00:09:13.620 And when he has found it, 00:09:13.679 --> 00:09:15.899 he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 00:09:15.899 --> 00:09:52.840 Just so, 00:09:52.940 --> 00:09:53.460 I tell you, 00:09:53.520 --> 00:09:55.440 there is joy before the angels of God 00:09:55.440 --> 00:09:57.060 of one sinner who repents. 00:09:57.520 --> 00:10:00.060 We find this kind of pattern 00:10:00.060 --> 00:10:01.860 that was going on. 00:10:02.640 --> 00:10:05.379 To know that there is joy in heaven. 00:10:06.480 --> 00:10:09.560 More joy in heaven over one sinner who repents 00:10:09.560 --> 00:10:12.820 is a really challenging thought, isn't it? 00:10:13.700 --> 00:10:15.680 One person repenting? 00:10:16.200 00:10:35.900 and the scribes for welcoming sinners. 00:10:35.899 --> 00:10:36.019 sinners. 00:10:37.120 --> 00:10:39.039 Well, we can see on the surface 00:10:39.039 --> 00:10:39.899 that Jesus, 00:10:40.279 --> 00:10:43.579 he spends time with anyone. 00:10:44.639 --> 00:10:48.100 Much how Jesus extends the invitation 00:10:48.100 --> 00:10:49.100 for all of us, 00:10:49.179 --> 00:10:51.059 regardless of what our title 00:10:51.059 --> 00:10:52.939 and our status is. 00:10:53.980 --> 00:10:56.100 I always love how when you read this, 00:10:56.159 --> 00:10:57.240 you see this distinction 00:10:57.240 --> 00:10:59.199 between a tax collector and a sinner. 00:11:00.340 --> 00:11:02.620 Why would you make such a distinction? 00:11:02.759 --> 00:11:03.579 Why wouldn't you just say, 00:11:12.440 as, well, I guess the ultra-rich 00:11:12.440 --> 00:11:14.980 or the scammers of the world 00:11:14.980 --> 00:11:16.180 or whatever it may be. 00:11:16.300 --> 00:11:17.920 Not looked on very favorably. 00:11:17.980 --> 00:11:19.560 We can kind of think of an idea 00:11:19.560 --> 00:11:21.020 of what that would look like today. 00:11:22.280 --> 00:11:24.700 So Jesus responds to
