symbols. 00:00:24.120 --> 00:00:26.859 We're here this morning to remember a death. 00:00:28.400 --> 00:00:29.800 And this is hard. 00:00:30.940 --> 00:00:31.980 It's heavy. 00:00:33.619 --> 00:00:39.560 But this death, the death of Jesus, is the most important thing that there is to know 00:00:39.560 --> 00:00:44.259 and believe and embrace in the entire universe. 00:00:45.659 --> 00:00:52.019 To appreciate this death, we need to first acknowledge our sins. 00:00:53.280 --> 00:00:57.039 And we're going to do that this morning with the help of King David, 00:00:57.039 --> 00:01:00.460 David, a man who lived long ago. 00:01:02.820 --> 00:01:06.920 David, even though he was a man after God's own heart, 00:01:07.459 --> 00:01:11.739 was a sinner just like me and just like you. 00:01:11.739 --> 00:01:16.640 Even though he loved goodness and righteousness, 00:01:17.199 --> 00:01:25.579 even though he was a worship leader and composed music expressing his love for God, 00:01:26.119 --> 00:01:29.579 he was still a sinner just like you and me. 00:01:29.579 --> 00:01:34.959 If you know the story of David, God chose him to be the king of Israel. 00:01:35.959 --> 00:01:42.679 And through great hardship and trial, God established David as the king of all the nation 00:01:42.679 --> 00:01:44.700 after the death of King Saul. 00:01:44.700 --> 00:01:53.320 And God gave David amazing success in battle against all the surrounding enemy nations. 00:01:53.319 --> 00:01:59.099 But David, too, was a sinner like you and me. 00:02:00.159 --> 00:02:04.519 We're going to read his story this morning in 2 Samuel chapter 11. 00:02:04.519 --> 00:02:14.400 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, 00:02:16.019 --> 00:02:19.719 David sent Joab, the commander of the army, 00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:24.139 out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. 00:02:25.300 --> 00:02:29.159 They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. 00:02:29.159 --> 00:02:33.340 But David remained in Jerusalem. 00:02:35.120 --> 00:02:41.259 One evening, David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. 00:02:42.599 --> 00:02:46.180 From the
