00:06:22.620 And what this is getting at is the habitual practice of your life. 00:06:22.620 --> 00:06:30.500 John is not requiring sinful perfection of Christians here. 00:06:30.840 --> 00:06:31.699 characterized by sinful attitudes and actions, 00:08:49.919 --> 00:08:51.759 it's really confusing. 00:08:53.079 --> 00:08:54.799 You know who it's confusing for? 00:08:55.919 --> 00:08:58.879 It's confusing for the Christians and non-Christians 00:08:58.879 --> 00:09:00.519 in relationship with that person, 00:09:00.519 --> 00:09:03.439 and it's also confusing for the person, 00:09:03.440 --> 00:09:08.200 because they know that they are professing something 00:09:08.200 --> 00:09:09.240 that they're not living. 00:09:10.300 --> 00:09:12.560 I happen to think that a Christian 00:09:12.560 --> 00:09:14.920 who's professing to be a follower of Jesus, 00:09:15.480 --> 00:09:17.480 who is living a life of disobedience, 00:09:17.700 --> 00:09:20.500 is actually the most miserable people person on the planet. 00:09:20.500 --> 00:09:26.059 And if you find yourself in that gray zone, 00:09:26.559 --> 00:09:27.940 where you're saying, 00:09:28.100 --> 00:09:32.240 I want to be a Christian, but man, I love sin, 00:09:33.240 --> 00:09:35.500 you need to turn. 00:09:36.240 --> 00:09:38.659 Turn from your sinning. 00:09:39.639 --> 00:09:40.639 Turn from your idols. 00:09:41.620 --> 00:09:43.379 Turn to the living Christ, 00:09:43.539 --> 00:09:45.139 and confess Him as Lord, 00:09:45.779 --> 00:09:46.899 and find life. 00:09:46.899 --> 00:09:51.439 Remember, when John is speaking up here, 00:09:51.539 --> 00:09:52.699 this making of practice, 00:09:52.840 --> 00:09:55.699 he's talking about an ongoing, habitual way of life 00:09:55.699 --> 00:09:57.620 that ends up rejection of God's good, 00:11:19.120 --> 00:11:21.519 holy, loving rules. 00:11:23.579 --> 00:11:26.839 We've seen two dramatic examples of that 00:11:26.839 --> 00:11:28.019 over the last several months. 00:11:28.699 --> 00:11:30.659 August, Jacob Blake is shot. 00:11:30.659 --> 00:11:35.039 And then from within our city, 00:11:35.219 --> 00:11:38.419 there is this small contingent of people 00:11:38.419 --> 00:11:40.399 who just go lawless. 00:11:43.199 --> 00:11:47.319 Hate, chaos, fear, destruction, 00:11:48.139 --> 00:11:50.819 death, lawlessness. 00:11:50.820 --> 00:11:57.220 But it also happened just over a week ago in D.C. 00:11:57.680 --> 00:12:00.520 Another mob storms the U.S. Capitol building, 00:12:00.720 --> 00:12:02.080 and it's lawlessness. 00:12:03.240 --> 00:12:07.420 Hate, chaos, fear, destruction, death. 00:12:09.360 --> 00:12:12.160 Now, if you feel like I haven't represented your group 00:12:12.160 --> 00:12:15.100 or represented them poorly, 00:12:15.480 --> 00:13:49.039 --> 00:13:50.980 And then towards the end of Matthew, Matthew 22, 00:13:51.279 --> 00:13:52.899 He's talking to this hotshot lawyer, 00:13:52.899 --> 00:13:54.860 and He tells this lawyer 00:13:54.860 --> 00:13:58.879 that all of the law and the prophets 00:13:58.879 --> 00:14:01.419 depend on just two commandments. 00:14:02.319 --> 00:14:03.959 You can sum up the whole Old Testament
