00:02:05.859 And that downward spiral, a bit like a tornado, sweeps everything into its grasp. 00:02:06.540 --> 00:02:16.520 And so we both become victims to it, and we also start contributing to some this word hope in sort of common English in the same way that we might use the word luck, don't we? 00:03:54.379 --> 00:03:58.900 Oh, I hope I hope I win the lottery or I hope the weather gets cooler or something like that. 00:03:59.319 --> 00:04:06.000 There's this strong element of sort of probability or chance in the way that we use the word hope. 00:04:06.259 --> 00:04:10.379 But in the Bible, the word hope is much more solid. 00:04:10.379 --> 00:04:16.639 It is what is promised by God, even if we can't see it yet. 00:04:17.699 --> 00:04:23.319 In fact, in the middle of the passage that we just heard read, Paul says that if we can see it, 00:04:23.600 --> 00:04:25.159 then actually we're not talking about hope anymore. 00:04:25.620 --> 00:04:30.439 But hope is waiting for something that is coming, yet we don't have fully yet. 00:04:30.439 --> 00:04:36.480 So what is it that Christians hope for? 00:04:36.939 --> 00:04:40.000 What is it that God promises that we are waiting for? we're actually hoping for, 00:05:49.279 --> 00:05:51.879 passages like Romans actually don't make any sense. 00:05:51.879 --> 00:05:57.279 And it very much limits our sense on what our life on earth got, 00:07:07.300 --> 00:07:08.319 that we're somehow going to be 00:07:08.319 --> 00:07:10.160 this sort of ephemeral beings 00:07:10.160 --> 00:07:13.900 who are away from the earth 00:07:13.900 --> the earth will be filled 00:08:01.139 --> 00:08:02.939 with the knowledge of the glory of God 00:08:02.939 --> 00:08:04.680 as the waters cover the sea. 00:08:05.639 --> 00:08:06.819 So that's what
