persecuting me? 00:07:54.779 --> 00:07:59.439 That must have been a profound moment for Paul in understanding what the Christian life was about. 00:07:59.540 --> 00:08:02.019 He was attacking the church. 00:08:02.680 --> 00:08:04.920 And the Lord is saying, why are you persecuting me? 00:08:04.920 --> 00:08:10.060 The Lord sees himself so united to his people. 00:08:12.439 --> 00:08:21.540 So to go deeper in this, in understanding this, we're going to look at four biblical pictures at the end of the sermon. 00:08:21.879 --> 00:08:27.600 But first we're going to start in Romans 6, if you want to turn with me there, or otherwise just listen along. 00:08:27.600 --> 00:08:37.240 Here in Romans, our question of what have we been saved for is answered in the negative. 00:08:38.340 --> guaranteed. 00:09:13.659 --> 00:09:17.199 That's just going to motivate people to do what they want. 00:09:18.219 --> 00:09:21.559 What's stopping a person doing what they want, living in sin? you understand what your baptism symbolises? 00:10:24.659 --> 00:10:28.159 Baptism isn't about your parents, what they did when you were a baby. 00:10:28.340 --> 00:10:32.159 It's not essentially about what you did in making a decision to follow Christ. 00:10:32.159 --> 00:10:42.519 Water baptism pictures the spiritual, internal baptism that the Holy Spirit has already done. 00:10:44.659 --> 00:10:45.459 Verse 3, 00:10:45.559 --> 00:10:53.620 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death? 00:10:53.620 --> 00:10:57.320 In effect, he's saying, don't you understand your baptism? 00:10:57.639 --> 00:11:00.399 Don't you understand what it means to be a Christian? 00:11:03.279 --> 00:11:05.399 Baptism is a naming ceremony. 00:11:06.759 00:15:27.179 And in 1 Corinthians 6, notice how Paul motivates the Christians. 00:15:28.059 --> 00:15:31.779 He doesn't motivate them by saying you might lose your salvation. 00:15:31.779 -->
