--> 00:00:39.679 They talked often of God's truth. 00:00:40.420 --> 00:00:47.740 They received God's provision enough to make budget 40 years in a row. 00:00:47.960 --> 00:00:50.780 It was like manna falling from heaven or something. 00:00:50.780 --> 00:01:03.700 And yet, neither the leader nor most of the people made it where God was taking them. 00:01:05.000 --> 00:01:08.500 They started out really close, but we never quite finished. 00:02:00.420 --> 00:02:09.159 The writer to the Hebrews, who has been pointing us to the greatness of Jesus over and over, 00:02:09.159 --> 00:02:19.860 he wants to ensure the churches that he's writing to endure, persevere, finish as well as they started with God, 00:02:19.920 --> 00:02:22.539 even when life is tough. 00:02:23.580 --> 00:02:26.680 And so, in chapter 3, he's going to do two things. 00:02:26.680 --> 00:02:35.379 He's going to compare Jesus and Moses, and then he's going to give God's people a warning from their history, 00:02:35.640 with what a hard-hearted diagnosis involves. 00:07:14.800 --> 00:07:18.920 It starts with the hardening being against God. 00:07:20.459 --> 00:07:24.300 Notice the writer to the Hebrews turns to Psalm he's writing to 00:07:32.160 --> 00:07:33.959 would have been very familiar with. 00:07:33.959 --> 00:07:37.139 They would have heard it nearly every week of their lives 00:07:37.139 --> 00:07:39.519 as they came to Sabbath worship. 00:07:39.719 --> 00:07:41.939 We began our service with it this morning. 00:07:42.079 --> 00:07:44.799 You know, come, let us worship and bow down. 00:07:44.919 --> 00:07:48.060 Let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker. 00:07:48.299 --> 00:07:51.199 It's a reminder of the God that we worship. 00:07:51.899 --> 00:07:53.319 And then there's a command. 00:07:55.639 00:09:11.740 Wow. 00:09:15.740 --> 00:09:19.159 Y'all, that's the deceitfulness of sin. 00:09:20.360 --> 00:09:22.000 That ought to get our attention. 00:09:23.039 --> 00:09:25.000 Verse 13 says, 00:09:25.399 --> 00:09:27.419 our hearts can be hardened 00:09:27.419 --> 00:09:30.860 by the deceitfulness of sin. 00:09:30.860 --> 00:09:35.240 They can become evil, unbelieving hearts. 00:09:35.240 --> 00:09:38.440 Not because we set out to be evil 00:09:38.440 --> 00:09:39.960 and do lots of bad stuff. 00:09:41.480 --> 00:09:44.460 But because sin deceives us. 00:09:45.899 --> 00:09:47.100 See, sin tells us what? 00:09:47.240 --> 00:09:50.320 Life is to be found somewhere else apart from God. 00:09:50.460 --> 00:09:51.820 Maybe not even far away. 00:09:51.899 --> 00:09:54.680 Maybe just 00:10:27.060 but you really want to be her friend, 00:10:27.140 --> 00:10:28.140 so you laugh along. 00:10:28.520 --> 00:10:30.140 Sometimes you even chime in 00:10:30.140 --> 00:10:32.900 with a little slight at the other girl. 00:10:33.080 --> 00:10:36.540 So that the cool girl likes being with you. 00:10:36.900 --> 00:10:37.500 And you're thinking, 00:10:37.639 --> 00:10:38.600 you know, no 00:13:39.320 this deceptive settling 00:13:39.320 --> 00:13:41.220 in his autobiography. 00:13:42.220 --> 00:13:43.700 The saddest thing to me 00:13:43.700 --> 00:13:45.060 in looking back on my life 00:13:45.060 --> 00:13:46.100 has been to recall 00:13:46.100 --> 00:13:47.620 not so much the wickedness 00:13:47.620 --> 00:13:48.759 I have been involved in, 00:13:48.920 --> 00:13:50.420 the cruel and selfish 00:13:50.420 --> 00:13:51.820 and egotistic things 00:13:51.820 --> 00:13:52.480 I have done, 00:13:52.820 --> 00:13:54.220 the hurt I have inflicted 00:13:54.220 --> 00:13:55.100 on those
