00:04:43.180 --> 00:04:47.340 and our relationship with others around us, 00:04:47.379 --> 00:04:50.500 particularly for those who don't know Jesus. 00:04:51.379 --> 00:04:52.400 So that's our goal. 00:04:52.399 --> 00:04:55.519 We're going to try and show how this final judgment matters 00:04:55.519 --> 00:04:59.060 and how we relate to Jesus day in and day out as his disciples 00:04:59.060 --> 00:05:01.739 and how we relate to a lost world 00:05:01.739 --> 00:05:04.859 who is on a one-way street to hell 00:05:04.859 --> 00:05:07.539 apart from receiving the gospel. 00:05:09.099 --> 00:05:29.120 And those whose names are not found in his book of life 00:05:29.120 --> 00:05:32.240 will spend eternity in the lake of fire. 00:05:32.240 --> 00:05:42.120 Jesus will carry out the final judgment on each and every person who has ever lived. 00:05:43.240 --> 00:05:45.720 And for every single person who's ever lived, 00:05:45.800 --> 00:05:49.060 whose name is not found in Jesus' book like stating the obvious, 00:06:35.819 --> 00:06:37.519 but let's walk through it again. 00:06:37.659 --> 00:06:41.019 Put simply, John sees the final judgment. 00:06:43.339 --> 00:06:44.939 This is, on the one hand, 00:06:45.019 --> 00:06:51.000 the tragic end of a staggering number of individuals who did not repent, 00:06:51.120 --> 00:06:55.540 who spent their life in war against the Lamb and the Lamb's people. 00:06:56.379 --> 00:07:00.480 But on another hand, it's sin's last breath. 00:07:02.639 --> 00:07:05.360 After thousands of years of wreaking havoc, 00:07:05.540 --> 00:07:08.899 from Lucifer's war for the throne in heaven, 00:07:09.540 --> 00:07:12.600 to the wickedness in the days of Noah, 00:07:13.060 --> 00:07:15.139 when God was sad that He even made man, 00:07:16.139 --> 00:07:19.040 to more modern examples of things like the Holocaust, 00:07:19.040 --> 00:07:20.040 thousands of years of havoc. 00:07:20.040 --> 00:07:23.120 Thousands of years of havoc, 00:07:23.280 --> 00:07:25.960 and sin breathes its last breath. 00:07:27.760 --> 00:07:29.140 It's the last chapter. 00:07:29.260 --> 00:07:30.180 The book is closed. 00:07:30.300 --> 00:07:30.879 It's done. 00:07:32.100 --> 00:07:33.439 This is the resolution 00:07:33.439 --> 00:07:36.960 that all of creation has been groaning for 00:07:36.960 --> 00:07:39.340 since Genesis chapter 3. 00:07:39.339 --> 00:07:43.719 And this is the final move 00:07:43.719 --> 00:07:46.419 before the new heavens and the new earth come down. 00:07:47.439 --> 00:07:48.539 The place where God 00:07:48.539 --> 00:07:50.739 will dwell with His people forever. 00:07:51.659 --> 00:07:54.539 And no detestable thing will ever enter into it. 00:07:54.599 --> 00:07:57.099 This place that is free of sin and free of death. 00:07:57.100 --> 00:08:02.120 So John sees the final judgment. 00:08:02.620 --> 00:08:05.340 It's both tragic and wonderful. 00:08:07.800 --> 00:08:09.100 That's the first question. throne. 00:08:24.820 --> 00:08:27.480 Notice he's on a great and white throne. 00:08:28.560 --> 00:08:30.460 It's great because it's unrivaled. 00:08:31.060 --> 00:08:33.180 This isn't one throne among many thrones. 00:08:33.300 --> 00:08:34.639 This is the throne of thrones. 00:08:34.740 --> 00:08:36.700 This is the only throne at the end of time 00:08:36.700 --> 00:08:38.440 when judgment comes that matters. 00:08:40.960 --> 00:08:43.779 And it's white because of a few reasons. 00:08:44.500 --> 00:08:45.920 This word white in Revelation, 00:08:45.919 --> 00:08:47.319 it speaks of purity. 00:08:47.860 --> 00:08:49.219 It speaks of holiness. 00:08:49.799 --> 00:08:50.939 It speaks of wisdom. 00:08:52.379 --> 00:08:54.120 So the judge on this throne, 00:08:54.379 --> 00:08:55.500 on this great white throne, 00:08:56.159 --> 00:08:57.699 he sees everything perfectly. 00:08:58.240 --> 00:09:01.000 He knows everything that each person has ever done. 00:09:01.079 --> 00:09:03.240 There's nothing that escapes his vision 00:09:03.240 --> 00:09:06.699 or his knowledge or his justice. 00:09:08.379 --> 00:09:10.519 That makes him uniquely qualified 00:09:10.519 --> 00:09:12.219 to judge the nations. 00:09:12.419 --> 00:09:14.159 He will judge everybody with equity 00:09:14.159 --> 00:09:15.219 and with fairness. 00:09:16.719 --> 00:09:18.019 There's no need to wonder the Father, 00:09:40.520 --> 00:09:43.040 the Ancient of Days from Daniel chapter 7. 00:09:44.000 --> 00:09:44.420 However, 00:09:45.080 --> 00:09:46.080 the Lamb, Jesus, 00:09:46.240 --> 00:09:47.800 is always seen in the midst of the throne. 00:09:48.020 --> 00:09:49.080 And he's always the one 00:09:49.080 --> 00:09:50.900 kind of carrying out the judgment. 00:09:51.139 --> 00:09:52.879 Remember 00:10:08.240 --> 00:10:10.500 are united in this judgment. 00:10:12.819 --> 00:10:14.000 In John's Gospel, 00:10:14.159 --> 00:10:16.179 Jesus says that the Father judges no one 00:10:16.179 --> 00:10:18.120 but has given all judgment 00:10:18.120 --> 00:10:19.399 into the hands of the Son. 00:10:19.399 --> 00:10:23.159 So the first person John sees 00:10:23.159 --> 00:10:25.120 is God on his throne. 00:10:26.720 --> 00:10:29.059 But then of course in verses 12 and 13, 00:10:29.279 --> 00:10:32.720 we see those who are standing before the throne, 00:10:32.860 --> 00:10:35.360 those who are being judged. 00:10:37.039 --> 00:10:38.939 And notice how John describes them. 00:10:40.379 --> 00:10:45.500 Four times in verses 12 and 13, 00:10:45.639 --> 00:10:47.279 they are referred to as the dead. 00:10:47.279 --> 00:10:49.839 I saw the dead, 00:10:49.980 --> 00:10:50.699 great and small. 00:10:51.439 --> 00:10:53.000 And the dead were judged 00:10:53.000 --> 00:10:54.360 by what was written in the books. 00:10:54.699 --> 00:10:55.339 Verse 13, 00:10:55.439 --> 00:10:57.339 the sea gave up the dead who were in it. 00:10:57.879 --> 00:10:59.539 Death and Hades gave up the dead 00:10:59.539 --> 00:11:00.919 who were in them. 00:11:04.339 --> 00:11:06.600 They're also described as great and small. 00:11:08.240 --> 00:11:08.699 Of course, 00:11:08.819 --> 00:11:10.059 we're 00:11:17.340 The great and small is referring 00:11:17.340 --> 00:11:19.260 not to a physical stature 00:11:19.260 --> 00:11:21.440 but to the rich and powerful 00:11:21.440 --> 00:11:22.620 and mighty and influential 00:11:22.620 --> 00:11:23.800 and celebrities 00:11:23.800 --> 00:11:25.720 and those who are poor 00:11:25.720 --> 00:11:26.600 and insignificant, 00:11:26.960 --> 00:11:28.380 those overlooked by the world. 00:11:30.980 --> 00:11:32.380 John wants us to see 00:11:32.380 --> 00:11:33.360 in this description, 00:11:33.540 --> 00:11:34.080 great and small, 00:11:34.180 --> 00:11:36.660 that no class or social status 00:11:36.660 --> 00:11:37.520 of people 00:11:37.520 --> 00:11:39.420 escape this judgment. 00:11:40.900 --> 00:11:41.860 This judgment 00:11:41.860 -->
