became emperor of Rome, 00:05:19.779 --> 00:05:24.479 historians record a visit from Magi to pay their respects. 00:05:25.419 --> 00:05:28.240 So this kind of visit wasn't entirely unusual, 00:05:52.079 that doesn't quite make sense, 00:05:52.180 --> 00:05:53.740 but there's this discrepancy 00:05:53.740 --> 00:05:56.780 that got worked out later on. 00:05:56.779 --> 00:05:57.839 So enemy of God's people, 00:06:46.519 --> 00:06:49.079 probably ignorant of God's promises 00:06:49.079 --> 00:06:50.079 in the Old Testament, 00:06:51.319 --> 00:06:53.180 seeing this rising star. 00:06:53.180 --> 00:06:55.680 And what do they do with this information? 00:06:59.340 --> 00:07:01.939 Well, the emphasis on the star rising 00:07:01.939 --> 00:07:04.900 is Matthew wanting us to think 00:07:04.900 --> 00:07:08.980 of the prophecy in Numbers 24, 17, 00:07:09.500 --> 00:07:11.000 during the days of Moses, 00:07:11.139 --> 00:07:13.079 like 1,400 years earlier. 00:07:14.360 --> 00:07:15.819 So the prophecy was, 00:07:15.920 --> 00:07:17.980 a star shall come out of Jacob 00:07:17.980 --> 00:07:22.220 and a scepter shall rise out of Israel. 00:07:22.220 --> 00:07:23.400 A ruler will come, 00:07:23.480 --> 00:07:24.120 in other words. 00:07:26.520 --> 00:07:28.640 These foreign astrologers, 00:07:28.860 --> 00:07:30.820 seeing this divine sign, 00:07:30.980 -->
