me in your copy of God's Word to Psalm 22. 00:01:18.560 --> 00:01:19.760 Psalm 22. 00:01:19.760 --> 00:01:29.780 This psalm serves as a divine commentary on much of what Jesus uttered on the cross, 00:01:29.780 --> 00:01:34.320 as we will see that three of His statements come from this psalm. 00:01:34.920 --> 00:01:38.300 Because Jesus cites this psalm so prevalently, 00:01:38.840 --> 00:01:44.500 I believe that it is safe to assume that He was pondering this psalm as He suffered. 00:01:44.500 --> 00:01:49.439 It may not have been the only text of Scripture that He meditated upon, 00:01:49.840 --> 00:01:52.079 but it was surely one of them. 00:01:52.680 --> 00:01:54.980 It may well have been the dominant one, 00:01:55.159 --> 00:02:01.659 and therefore can grant us some level of insight into His thoughts. 00:02:02.560 --> 00:02:06.060 The author of this psalm is King David, 00:02:06.539 --> 00:02:11.520 and no events of his life match the description found here, 00:02:11.520 --> 00:02:13.040 as many of his psalms do. 00:02:13.140 --> 00:02:16.300 You could say, oh, we know when David wrote this particular psalm, 00:02:16.380 --> 00:02:19.600 the trouble that he was experiencing at this time, 00:02:20.140 --> 00:02:22.600 but not in this case. 00:02:22.600 --> 00:02:26.820 So it is widely agreed that this psalm is prophetic, 00:02:27.480 --> 00:02:31.900 that David was speaking of the suffering of Jesus. 00:02:32.620 --> 00:02:36.400 In that, it alludes to five different incidents 00:02:36.400 --> 00:02:41.200 that occurred in the process of Jesus being tried and crucified. 00:02:41.520 --> 00:02:44.500 We also know that Peter, the apostle, 00:02:44.820 --> 00:02:50.540 refers to David as a prophet in Acts 2, verse 30. 00:02:50.640 --> 00:02:52.840 There he's referencing a different psalm, 00:02:52.980 --> 00:02:56.200 but he calls there David the prophet. 00:02:57.060 --> 00:02:59.580 So, as we take some time this evening 00:02:59.580 --> 00:03:02.080 to consider some of Jesus' final words, 00:03:02.219 --> 00:03:05.939 and most likely some of His final thoughts, 00:03:05.939 --> 00:03:09.159 I want to invite you to We can read in John 19, 00:08:39.100 --> 00:08:41.180 verse 23 and 24, 00:08:41.179 --> 00:08:43.979 when the soldiers had crucified Jesus, 00:08:44.120 --> 00:08:45.159 they took His garments 00:08:45.159 --> 00:08:46.859 and divided them into four parts, 00:08:47.359 --> 00:08:48.959 one part for each soldier, 00:08:49.279 --> 00:08:50.979 also His tunic. 00:08:51.419 --> 00:08:53.379 But the tunic was seamless, 00:08:53.559 --> 00:08:55.839 woven in one piece from top to bottom. 00:08:55.959 --> 00:08:56.979 So they said to one another, 00:08:57.519 --> 00:08:58.439 let us not tear it, 00:08:58.500 --> 00:08:59.699 but cast lots for it 00:08:59.699 --> 00:09:01.239 to see whose it shall be. 00:09:01.939 --> 00:09:03.959 This was to fill the Scripture 00:09:03.959 -->
