Paul is not a genius. 00:06:22.519 --> 00:06:23.459 He is an apostle. 00:06:25.860 --> 00:06:28.420 That's one of the things that Paul is saying right off the bat. 00:06:28.879 --> 00:06:30.300 He's saying, I'm not a genius. 00:06:30.939 --> 00:06:31.680 I'm an apostle. 00:06:32.660 --> 00:06:34.500 The name Paul, by the way, means little. 00:06:35.240 --> 00:06:36.779 It's actually sort of an interesting way. 00:06:36.779 --> 00:06:44.639 We don't know whether when he got named as a Jewish man living outside of the promised 00:06:44.639 --> 00:06:49.259 land, it was very common for Jewish people to have a Jewish name and a Greek name. 00:06:49.339 --> 00:06:53.819 And we don't know if that's the name that he got from birth or if it's a name that he 00:06:53.819 --> 00:07:00.319 chose as he began his ministry more and more amongst non, outside of the Jewish homeland, 00:07:00.459 --> 00:07:01.179 the promised land. 00:07:01.519 --> 00:07:04.419 But he chose for himself or had given him the name little. 00:07:04.420 --> 00:07:05.860 But it's very interesting. 00:07:05.960 --> 00:07:07.480 If you look at it again, what does it say here? 00:07:07.699 --> 00:07:12.920 When I say that Paul is not a genius, he's an apostle, this is going to become something 00:07:12.920 --> 00:07:17.640 that we're going to talk about more next week because it's an important point in the book 00:07:17.640 --> 00:07:18.460 of Galatians. 00:07:18.840 --> 00:07:20.020 But look what it says. 00:07:20.160 --> 00:07:27.879 He says he's an apostle, not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God 00:07:27.879 --> 00:07:29.620 the Father who raised him from the dead. 00:07:29.620 --> 00:07:37.100 So Paul is saying that it's not that he himself was specifically a great genius. 00:08:26.519 he's the absolute last guy that any church would have ever picked to do anything. 00:08:27.339 --> 00:08:33.620 In fact, as he says in one of his letters, he's the guy that if Paul, if he'd come into 00:08:33.620 --> 00:08:36.519 a church, nobody would want him behind him. 00:08:38.959 --> 00:08:39.439 Okay? 00:08:39.440 --> 00:08:45.660 Everybody, like if it would be, if he came into the room, I'd go, you'd tell from my face 00:08:45.660 --> 00:08:49.320 that something had just happened and you'd all start to look. 00:08:50.140 --> 00:08:53.560 And throughout the entire rest human institution has chosen me or picked me, but I'm an apostle. 00:09:15.879 --> 00:09:17.600 And who has made me an apostle? 00:09:18.620 --> 00:09:26.980 Jesus Christ is the one who revealed --> 00:09:45.839 It's sort of a little bit like ambassador or envoy. 00:09:46.679 --> 00:09:52.919 And so there's all sorts of different people who were made like apostles, like envoys to carry 00:09:52.919 --> 00:09:54.759 a message and to fulfill a task. 00:09:54.759 --> 00:10:01.080 But the New Testament makes clear that there were 12 apostles specifically chosen by Jesus 00:10:01.080 --> 00:10:10.120 and specifically given the role of making sure that his teaching would be correctly disseminated 00:10:10.120 --> 00:10:11.519 and understood. 00:10:12.279 --> 00:10:14.279 And Paul is saying, I am one of those 12. 00:10:15.379 --> 00:10:17.039 I was taught by Jesus. 00:10:17.519 --> 00:10:19.240 I was saved by Jesus. 00:10:19.240 --> 00:10:21.060 Jesus revealed himself to me. 00:10:21.560 --> 00:10:26.279 In a sense, what Paul, if you could put the next point up, in a sense, what Paul is claiming 00:10:26.279 --> 00:10:26.899 is this. 00:10:27.759 --> 00:10:32.480 To listen to Paul is to listen to the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father. 00:10:33.899 --> 00:10:40.980 To listen to Jesus, to Paul, listen to Galatians, is to actually be listening to the Lord Jesus 00:10:40.980 --> 00:10:47.960 Christ and God the Father explain who Jesus is and what he did upon the cross and what it 00:10:47.960 --> 00:10:50.580 means to live after we've received the gospel. follower of Jesus who becomes more in tune with the Bible, it becomes more 00:11:25.019 --> 00:11:29.240 and more clear that when they hear the Bible, they're not just listening to human words, 00:11:29.579 --> 00:11:32.079 that it's God himself speaking to us. 00:11:32.080 --> 00:11:41.020 So what we're getting here is this is, you know, it's, as I said before, it's a challenge 00:11:41.020 --> 00:11:46.400 to Canadians because to Canadians, movies and everything in the press, they say no one 00:11:46.400 --> 00:11:48.240 can tell you how to live or be happy. 00:11:48.520 --> 00:11:52.020 You go to a high school graduation, people will tell you the same thing. 00:11:52.080 --> 00:11:53.700 It's what the valedictorian will tell you. 00:11:53.759 --> 00:11:55.200 It's what the principal will tell you. 00:11:55.520 --> 00:11:57.860 It's what the superintendent will tell you. 00:11:57.920 --> 00:12:01.340 They'll tell you that in a public school and they'll tell you this in a Catholic school. 00:12:01.340 --> 00:12:03.639 They'll say no one can tell you how to live. 00:12:03.720 --> 00:12:05.259 No one can tell you how to be happy. 00:12:05.399 --> 00:12:07.540 No one
