Our desire for rest from work is not simply due to our being limited or finite. 00:01:42.459 --> 00:01:54.979 Our desire to rest is actually patterned after God Himself who declared in His own rest in Genesis chapter 3, the crown of rest could no longer be realized because of sin. 00:02:10.120 --> 00:02:18.240 The wonderful hope, though, is that God, out of His freedom and desire to know us and modern world today 00:03:45.280 --> 00:03:47.740 and its approach to work and rest. 00:03:48.759 --> 00:03:53.060 But more than that, they also foreshadow the rest that is to come, 00:03:53.640 --> 00:03:56.319 the rest that shapes the gospel as well. 00:03:57.300 --> 00:04:01.340 That is to say, the goal of the Sabbath laws was not to be an ending of themselves, 00:04:01.479 --> 00:04:04.740 but to point towards the rest that is to come in Jesus. 00:04:05.620 --> 00:04:09.980 But first, let's look at Leviticus and see how it critiques our modern day world. 00:04:09.979 --> 00:04:18.399 Firstly, it promotes the importance of rest and the danger of overworking for humanity. 00:04:19.420 --> 00:04:25.659 Jesus said Himself in Mark's gospel that Sabbath is for man and not man for Sabbath, 00:04:26.000 --> 00:04:29.839 which is a helpful reminder when we read about Sabbath in Leviticus. 00:04:30.339 --> 00:04:33.759 It's there to serve us, to help us, to enjoy us, to rest. 00:04:33.759 --> 00:04:39.599 In chapter 23 of Leviticus, we are given an outline of different kinds of feasts and festivals 00:04:39.599 --> 00:04:42.019 that the people of God were to celebrate. 00:04:43.240 --> 00:04:46.339 But it's the Sabbath day principle that informs all of them. 00:04:46.339 --> 00:04:49.339 From verse 1 of 23, it says, 00:04:49.339 --> 00:05:14.379 These festivals were called sacred assemblies. 00:05:14.479 --> 00:05:18.179 That is, they were special gatherings of God's people. 00:05:18.180 --> 00:05:23.459 They were holy gatherings, set apart from the rest of the earth itself. 00:13:03.479 --> 00:13:06.899 And the most scathing indictment upon us as believers 00:13:06.899 --> 00:13:08.840 is that the secular science 00:13:08.840 --> 00:13:11.439 are the ones
