princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. 00:02:21.960 --> 00:02:26.019 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, 00:02:26.020 --> 00:02:28.939 circumstances that we say, 00:02:54.759 --> 00:02:59.019 Lord, there's no way this is going to turn out in any way good. 00:02:59.139 --> 00:03:03.899 But Lord, we know that you can take those things and turn them to good. 00:03:04.039 --> 00:03:06.739 Lord, that we can trust you, that you have a plan and a purpose. 00:03:07.599 --> 00:03:10.120 Lord, as we see in the life of Daniel, 00:03:10.659 --> 00:03:15.259 Lord, even Daniel's testimony and how even having a godly testimony 00:03:15.259 --> 00:03:17.159 doesn't mean that people are going to like you, 00:03:17.759 --> 00:03:19.879 that people are going to appreciate what you do. 00:03:19.879 --> 00:03:24.120 And Lord, that we still need to stand firm upon that. 00:03:24.219 --> 00:03:27.439 And Lord, we just give you the praise and was taken into captivity and he served under Nebuchadnezzar. 00:03:37.900 --> 00:03:42.759 And then after Nebuchadnezzar was replaced by Darius, 00:03:42.759 --> 00:03:48.120 we find that as we read here in Daniel 6, that he was elevated again, 00:03:48.219 --> 00:03:51.019 you know, which is actually an unheard of thing in ancient times. 00:03:51.819 --> 00:03:55.579 You know, you don't find very often that a new king comes in 00:03:55.579 --> 00:03:58.859 and he takes the senior advisors from the previous king 00:03:58.859 --> 00:04:01.919 and puts them in places of prominence. 00:04:03.120 --> 00:04:05.139 You know, that's an unheard of thing. 00:04:05.139 --> 00:04:12.339 That took an act of God by itself that Daniel moved from a place of prominence 00:04:12.339 --> 00:04:16.259 under Nebuchadnezzar to a place of prominence under Darius. 00:04:17.000 --> 00:04:19.419 Because it wasn't a peaceful secession. 00:04:20.240 --> 00:04:23.240 It was a military overthrow of the government. 00:04:25.000 --> 00:04:28.139 You know, so what I want you to see here is what Daniel's testimony 00:04:28.139 --> 00:04:31.180 was a very powerful testimony. 00:04:31.180 --> 00:04:36.620 It was a testimony that even impacted a new king coming in. 00:04:37.340 --> 00:04:40.439 To say, hey, Daniel, I've heard about him. 00:04:41.480 --> 00:04:42.699 I've seen him. 00:04:43.280 --> 00:04:46.300 I understand what's going on. 00:04:46.379 --> 00:04:49.379 But Daniel, we know, the Bible tells us here, 00:04:49.439 --> 00:04:50.540 look here in verse 3. 00:04:52.079 --> 00:04:53.740 What set Daniel apart? 00:04:54.220 --> 00:04:58.720 Notice it's because an excellent spirit was in him. 00:04:58.720 --> 00:05:03.720 You know, that's a powerful phrase, isn't it? 00:05:04.760 --> 00:05:07.900 The thing about it, he had an excellent spirit within him. 00:05:08.460 --> 00:05:12.480 In other words, when Darius, okay, if you need an outline, 00:05:12.640 --> preferred above the presidents and princes. 00:05:41.759 --> 00:05:45.079 In other words, we see here something happen in this dynamic 00:05:45.620 --> 00:05:48.620 as we begin looking here to understand what's taking place. 00:05:48.959 --> 00:05:52.120 Here's these leaders, and Daniel is first. 00:05:52.120 --> 00:05:56.060 And then suddenly Darius says, I want to move him out of just with an excellent spirit 00:06:13.100 --> 00:06:16.819 because he made a decision early on in his life of what he was going to do. 00:06:16.819 --> 00:06:22.159 You know, in Daniel chapter 1, you find that Daniel made a decision 00:06:22.159 --> 00:06:26.959 because the Bible tells us that in verse 8 of Daniel chapter 1, it says, 00:06:27.120 --> 00:06:31.980 but Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself. 00:06:32.300 --> 00:06:35.519 And he's talking there specifically about some things that were going on. 00:06:35.579 --> 00:06:41.279 But I think that defilement and the defile himself was a commitment he kept beyond this. 00:06:41.279 --> 00:06:43.039 How do we know that? 00:06:43.119 --> 00:06:48.099 Because of his spirit that he had. 00:06:48.859 --> 00:06:54.639 It was a godly spirit, something that made a difference in his life. 00:06:54.739 --> 00:06:59.959 And we find here that under King Darius, Daniel was elevated even higher. 00:07:00.039 --> 00:07:03.039 He was preferred above all the others. 00:07:03.939 --> 00:07:06.219 You know, we go see Daniel's life was one. 00:07:06.220 --> 00:07:07.880 He went from his teenage years. 00:07:08.620 --> 00:07:11.980 At this point, he's coming up on his 80s. 00:07:12.280 --> 00:07:14.080 Daniel lived a full life. 00:07:14.160 --> 00:07:14.580 You know what? 00:07:15.380 --> 00:07:20.480 Daniel was a man who began with character and ended with character. 00:07:20.580 --> 00:07:21.500 That ought to be our goal. 00:07:22.520 --> 00:07:25.960 To say that people see the character of my life throughout. 00:07:26.920 --> 00:07:29.820 The consistency of your life. 00:07:30.580 --> 00:07:34.200 You know, it ought to be something we strive for because he had this excellent spirit, used him and revealed. 00:07:44.519 --> 00:07:48.259 We talked last time about some of the things that God used Daniel. 00:07:48.379 --> 00:07:49.839 Daniel was revealed. 00:07:50.300 --> 00:07:55.899 God revealed to him the thing about kingdoms to come and the timetable of the end. 00:07:55.899 --> 00:08:04.199 I mean, Daniel was a prophet who gave all sorts of, God gave him all sorts of information that was important, 00:08:04.459 --> 00:08:06.099 not only in their day, but in our day. 00:08:07.519 --> 00:08:09.959 God used Daniel in a mighty way. 00:08:10.539 --> 00:08:16.859 But I want you to see here that something happens because just because you serve God, 00:08:16.939 --> 00:08:19.060 because you do things right. 00:08:20.259 --> 00:08:21.939 You know, sometimes this is a misconception. 00:08:22.199 --> 00:08:24.599 If I do everything right, everything should go well. 00:08:24.600 --> 00:08:26.060 Isn't that how we think sometimes? 00:08:27.460 --> 00:08:28.960 I did everything right. 00:08:29.060 --> 00:08:30.320 Why is it not going well? 00:08:31.080 --> 00:08:33.519 Why is it not going the way that's good for me? 00:08:35.100 --> 00:08:36.639 That I think is that tested their faith early to say, 00:08:55.960 --> 00:08:58.060 what do I believe and why do I believe it? 00:08:58.220 --> 00:09:00.519 And why is it important that I believe it? 00:09:00.700 --> 00:09:06.800 I want you to see here, we can learn some things from Daniel about a resilient faith. 00:09:07.200 --> 00:09:12.200 And even when we have oppression from the outside, people that don't like you, 00:09:12.240 --> 00:09:14.800 you have governments that don't like you, you have all these dynamics, 00:09:14.920 --> 00:09:16.259 but yet we can still serve God. 00:09:16.259 --> 00:09:18.980 We can do what God would want. 00:09:19.080 --> 00:09:21.179 And so let's take a look here this morning. 00:09:21.360 --> 00:09:24.600 As we see here, the first thing, the mandate against Daniel. 00:09:25.200 --> 00:09:30.019 Notice here in verse 4 of Daniel chapter 6, it says, 00:09:30.179 --> 00:09:34.860 then the presidents and the princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom. 00:09:35.860 --> 00:09:38.120 You know, notice here, what's the first thing they did? 00:09:38.200 --> 00:09:42.539 They went to find a problem with Daniel concerning his leadership, 00:09:42.539 --> 00:09:44.899 concerning his position. 00:09:44.899 --> 00:09:48.159 Did he favor somebody he shouldn't? 00:09:48.339 --> 00:09:52.719 Did he kind of give, overlook something? 00:09:53.419 --> 00:09:56.659 Or, you know, did he fall or falter any place in his leadership? 00:09:56.879 --> 00:10:01.439 I mean, they did a full scrutiny of everything that Daniel did. 00:10:02.000 --> 00:10:05.839 You might say they had all sorts of committee hearings and all sorts of testimony 00:10:05.839 --> 00:10:08.399 trying to find somebody to find something against him. 00:10:08.639 --> 00:10:10.500 But notice what they said here. 00:10:10.500 --> 00:10:15.059 But they could find none occasion nor fault. 00:10:16.720 --> 00:10:21.919 For as much as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. 00:10:22.139 --> 00:10:25.659 You know, when the word of God says that there was no error or fault found, 00:10:25.740 --> 00:10:31.259 that's a pretty high testimony that Daniel put in. 00:10:31.299 --> 00:10:34.059 Because sometimes life is hard to make sure that comes out that way. 00:10:34.299 --> 00:10:39.159 There's some difficult decisions, but we see the mandate here that's going to take place. 00:10:39.159 --> 00:10:40.620 Notice this in verse 5, 00:10:40.699 --> 00:10:41.699 Then said these men, 00:10:42.319 --> 00:10:45.620 We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, 00:10:45.719 --> 00:10:50.799 except we find it against him concerning the law of his God. 00:10:50.879 --> 00:10:55.860 Now we're going to see this play out because we're going to face trials and attacks, 00:10:55.959 --> 00:10:58.819 and oftentimes it has to do with an attack of what you believe. 00:10:58.820 --> 00:11:05.080 What do you say that God, know that God has said, and where am I willing to stand on it? 00:11:05.840 --> 00:11:07.620 Where am I willing to do that? 00:11:07.780 --> 00:11:12.600 And we find here that this ungodly envy is the thing we see. 00:11:12.700 --> 00:11:14.160 They were envious of Daniel. 00:11:14.420 --> 00:11:14.740 Why? 00:11:14.860 --> 00:11:16.980 Because Daniel was elevated know, somebody else gets lifted above somebody else. 00:11:28.659 --> 00:11:31.599 You know, the wrong person gets in. 00:11:31.679 --> 00:11:37.679 But we find here that Daniel had a testimony that made a difference. 00:11:39.059 --> 00:11:40.639 They found nothing against him. 00:11:40.739 --> 00:11:46.759 This ungodly envy led them to try to find anything they could against Daniel. 00:11:46.759 --> 00:11:53.019 And I want you to understand there are times when ungodly people plot against believers, 00:11:53.700 --> 00:11:58.559 plot against Christians, not because we've done anything wrong, 00:11:58.639 --> 00:12:00.319 but because we're trying to please God. 00:12:01.259 --> 00:12:04.200 Because sometimes your testimony convicts. 00:12:04.480 --> 00:12:09.539 You know, I imagine these guys were convicted by Daniel because they were probably taking bribes. 00:12:09.600 --> 00:12:12.700 They were probably doing things under the table they shouldn't. 00:12:12.700 --> 00:12:17.540 And they were like, we've got to get rid of this Daniel because he's making us look bad. 00:12:19.220 --> 00:12:23.320 You know, if you have an upright testimony, there's going to be people that are going to want to get rid of you. 00:12:24.640 --> 00:12:25.980 They're going to try to downplay. 00:12:26.120 --> 00:12:28.360 And you need to be prepared for it. 00:12:28.460 --> says, but if you suffer for righteousness sake, happy are ye. 00:12:59.860 --> 00:13:04.939 And be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled, but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. 00:13:04.940 --> 00:13:11.500 And be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you the reason, the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. 00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:22.140 Having a good conscience that whereas they speak evil of you as evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 00:13:22.800 --> 00:13:24.400 Now, let me sum that up for you. it says, 00:14:22.879 --> 00:14:27.299 A sound heart is the life of the flesh, but envy, the rottenness of the bones. 00:14:27.620 --> 00:14:29.980 These individuals were rotten clear through. 00:14:30.139 --> 00:14:34.399 They were willing to do anything it took to get what they wanted. 00:14:35.700 --> 00:14:38.120 Envy leads us to places that's a problem. 00:14:38.279 --> 00:14:43.019 You know, envy is desiring to have what somebody else has. 00:14:43.279 --> 00:14:45.580 One of our problems in culture today is envy. 00:14:45.919 --> 00:14:47.220 Let me present something to you. 00:14:47.220 --> 00:14:50.259 Victim culture is envy culture. 00:14:53.660 --> 00:14:59.940 To say I'm always a victim is saying I'm envious because I didn't get what somebody else got. 00:15:02.300 --> 00:15:03.720 Those two tie together. 00:15:03.840 --> 00:15:04.879 They might dress it up. 00:15:06.240 --> 00:15:08.680 They might put lipstick on the pig, but you know what? 00:15:08.700 --> 00:15:10.259 You can dress a pig up, it's still a pig. 00:15:10.500 --> 00:15:12.279 I want you to understand envy. 00:15:12.279 --> 00:15:17.139 And these men with this ungodly envy, but Daniel had a faithful testimony. 00:15:18.100 --> 00:15:21.399 You know, that ought to be what we strive for, to have a faithful testimony. 00:15:22.759 --> 00:15:25.779 To say when others look at that, there's 00:15:45.199 Because I want you to understand, Daniel wasn't walking amongst a bunch of other believers. 00:15:45.699 --> 00:15:51.939 Daniel was serving in an ungodly culture that worshipped idols. wouldn't say that the culture didn't have a moral standard. 00:16:04.620 --> 00:16:06.160 Every culture has a moral standard. 00:16:06.300 --> 00:16:10.460 The question is, is that moral standard the standard that measures up with God's standard? 00:16:12.160 --> 00:16:14.060 Because we all live with a standard. 00:16:16.380 --> 00:16:17.400 Standard's not the problem. 00:16:17.460 --> 00:16:18.860 The question is, what is the standard? 00:16:18.860 --> 00:16:27.159 And so as we look here, his faithful testimony, he had pagan people around him. 00:16:27.200 --> 00:16:30.180 He had hateful leaders that couldn't find anything. 00:16:30.180 --> 00:16:33.240 And they gave everything they could to try to overthrow him. 00:16:33.600 --> 00:16:37.980 You know, it's funny how the Bible --> 00:16:51.000 You know, because in our highly politicized society, it seems every other week, somebody's trying to investigate somebody else, 00:16:51.060 --> 00:16:54.580 trying to get dirt to maneuver or to hold leverage on somebody. 00:16:54.879 --> 00:16:58.160 I mean, that's been definitely clear the last 10 years. 00:16:58.300 --> 00:17:03.200 I mean, you see this whole big political plays of dynamics of trying to get things. 00:17:03.240 --> 00:17:09.980 And we need to be careful as a believer not to get caught up in the pettiness of people just trying to get even or envy. 00:17:09.980 --> 00:17:18.819 We keep our focus on the right things and understand the dynamic, you know, and it becomes exhausting. 00:17:19.480 --> 00:17:23.440 You know, I imagine this was an exhaustive thing that they tried to look into Daniel. 00:17:24.059 --> 00:17:26.519 You know, they tried to find everything they could. 00:17:26.599 --> 00:17:27.940 They couldn't find anything.
