Canada nowadays, 00:02:43.539 --> 00:02:44.539 they think of Christians, 00:02:44.539 --> 00:02:47.299 they think of people who are very quick to condemn, 00:02:47.639 --> 00:02:53.219 that, in fact, condemnation of others' behavior is part of our DNA. 00:02:53.339 --> 00:02:57.339 That would be a very common, I'd say, stereotype of Christians, 00:02:57.539 --> 00:03:01.039 but as sometimes happens with stereotypes, there's some truth. 00:03:01.799 --> 00:03:05.759 Probably every single one of us here has been the recipient 00:03:05.759 --> 00:03:09.479 of great condemnation from other condemnation of others are blind to it ourselves. 00:03:43.599 --> 00:03:47.240 In fact, many of us, by this introduction, 00:03:47.379 --> 00:03:48.860 we're probably thinking of times 00:03:48.860 --> 00:03:52.620 that we have received this condemnation, 00:03:53.020 --> 00:03:55.920 but probably very few of us think of the times, 00:03:56.080 --> 00:03:58.480 maybe even just within the last 24 hours, 00:03:58.640 --> 00:04:02.719 when we've unleashed condemnation on others. 00:04:02.719 --> 00:04:05.000 Like, it's a very curious thing about us 00:04:05.000 --> 00:04:06.259 and our human hearts, isn't it? 00:04:06.280 --> 00:04:08.340 That we often immediately, when we think of this, 00:04:08.439 --> 00:04:09.939 think of the times that we've been the victim. 00:04:10.639 --> 00:04:12.759 But we probably rarely think of the times 00:04:12.759 --> 00:04:15.000 that we've been the perpetrator of condemnation. 00:04:16.120 --> 00:04:20.759 And in fact, not to put too much of 00:04:37.800 about how with social media and Twitter and other things 00:04:37.800 --> 00:04:40.279 that people who make some odd comment 00:04:40.279 --> 00:04:43.639 can be flooded and overwhelmed 00:04:43.639 --> 00:04:48.199 with hateful, condemning rhetoric. 00:04:49.319 --> 00:04:51.740 And yet, at the same time that people do this, 00:04:51.819 --> 00:04:52.899 outside the church, 00:04:53.740 --> 00:04:56.219 they often don't realize that they themselves 00:04:56.220 --> 00:04:57.900 maybe are filled with condemnation. 00:04:58.000 --> 00:04:59.380 Maybe even condemning Christians, 00:04:59.540 --> 00:05:01.580 they've passed judgment on you and me, 00:05:02.260 --> 00:05:05.280 but they somehow think that they're doing that 00:05:05.280 --> 00:05:07.000 is not a 00:07:26.039 So he wrote it about 35 years or so, 00:07:26.459 --> 00:07:29.599 25 years or so after the death and resurrection of Jesus. 00:07:30.059 --> 00:07:33.319 And he's writing it to a group of churches, 00:07:33.519 --> 00:07:35.199 a group of Christians in churches 00:07:35.199 --> 00:07:37.799 in the capital city of the empire in Rome. 00:07:38.319 --> 00:07:40.019 And Paul knows a few
