looked at verses 10 to 13 last time. 00:25:36.500 --> 00:25:41.279 Remember that the apostle there is dealing with the way in which the Philippians' kindness 00:25:41.279 --> 00:25:48.819 was shown to him in sending him support, a gift of whatever kind it was for his support. 00:25:49.299 --> 00:25:53.279 And he is thanking them for their generosity and for that support. 00:25:53.279 --> 00:25:56.899 And you'll find that through to verse 19 as well. 00:25:57.039 --> 00:26:00.960 He's saying in verse 14, it was kind of you to share my trouble. 00:26:01.139 --> 00:26:06.059 And you 00:27:10.519 Now a gift has reached him, sent through Epaphroditus to him here in prison, as he writes to the Philippians. 00:27:10.960 --> 00:27:15.079 And it's interesting how that is described by him here in verse 18. 00:27:15.700 --> 00:27:21.880 This gift, the gifts that you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing 00:27:21.880 --> 00:27:22.759 to God. 00:27:23.039 --> 00:27:30.880 He is keying it in with the sacrifice of God himself, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, sacrifice 00:27:30.880 --> 00:27:35.200 of God's Son, which of course is the greatest gift of all. 00:27:35.200 --> 00:27:40.900 But he's using the language of sacrifice just to remind us, to remind the Philippians, and 00:27:40.900 --> 00:27:46.720 we're reminded of it too, that when we come to support the gospel, we're not just giving 00:27:46.720 --> 00:27:47.200 money. 00:27:47.319 --> 00:27:48.900 We're not just giving up our time. 00:27:49.220 --> 00:27:50.440 We are doing all of that. 00:27:50.539 --> 00:27:54.019 But it is, as we often refer to it, an offering. 00:27:54.720 --> 00:28:01.100 Just as sacrifices were referred to as offerings, something that was dedicated to God. 00:28:01.099 --> 00:28:07.019 So he is saying to the Philippians, this is what you have done, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice 00:28:07.019 --> 00:28:10.079 acceptable and pleasing to God. 00:28:10.339 --> 00:28:18.819 So the pattern really for our giving and support of the gospel is Jesus himself as a sacrifice 00:28:18.819 --> 00:28:24.339 and an offering as he gave himself to the cross to die for his people. 00:28:24.339 --> 00:28:32.419 And here the apostle is now assuring the Philippians, having done that, for them having done that, 00:28:32.459 --> 00:28:40.119 he's now saying, and my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches and glory 00:28:40.119 --> 00:28:42.199 by Christ Jesus. 00:28:43.240 --> 00:28:49.740 And so there are two things that really come from that verse that we can look at this evening. 00:28:50.139 --> 00:28:51.459 I'm going to focus on these two things. 00:28:51.460 --> 00:28:56.160 First of all, he talks here about a supply that meets every need. 00:28:57.140 --> 00:29:04.059 And secondly, it's a supply that flows from an endless resource or from endless resources. 00:29:04.519 --> 00:29:10.700 A supply that meets every need, a supply that comes from endless resources. 00:29:12.079 --> 00:29:16.579 And we'll try and explain something more of that as we go through the words the apostle uses 00:29:16.579 --> be in him a well of water, a spring of water, welling up into eternal life. 00:32:40.120 --> 00:32:41.940 And you know, that picture is a wonderful picture. 00:32:42.300 --> 00:32:47.960 It's a picture of a fountain or a water spring that never ceases, that never runs dry. 00:32:47.960 --> 00:32:53.940 There is never anything but outpouring so that people can benefit from it. 00:32:54.299 --> 00:33:03.519 And that's what he's telling us about the supply of life, the supply of grace that comes to God's people through their relationship with Jesus Christ. 00:33:04.100 --> 00:33:07.819 My
