Because here, Judah is seen as an example of this. 00:07:18.899 --> 00:07:20.839 They've been established by the Lord, 00:07:21.819 --> 00:07:23.739 his people that were to be obedient 00:07:23.739 --> 00:07:24.899 to the word of the Lord, 00:07:25.019 --> 00:07:26.719 and yet they started out that way. 00:07:27.359 --> 00:07:29.339 Yet we see them slide back, 00:07:29.739 --> 00:07:32.219 and in the days of Jeremiah the prophet, 00:07:32.639 --> 00:07:33.939 he makes this declaration. 00:07:34.299 --> 00:07:36.679 He says, why then is this people of Jerusalem 00:07:36.679 --> 00:07:41.039 slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? 00:07:41.279 --> 00:07:43.619 They hold fast deceit. 00:07:43.899 --> 00:07:47.019 They refuse to return. 00:07:48.419 --> 00:07:49.259 You know what? 00:07:49.559 --> 00:07:51.739 God's talking about a heart problem 00:07:51.739 --> 00:07:52.819 that's taking place. 00:07:54.299 --> 00:07:57.559 A heart problem within that's causing a problem. 00:07:58.119 --> 00:08:00.179 They move from following the Lord 00:08:00.179 --> 00:08:01.819 to holding to deceit. 00:08:02.439 --> 00:08:04.359 You know, they were deceiving themselves. 00:08:04.559 --> 00:08:07.039 You know, we see that a lot. 00:08:07.660 --> 00:08:09.600 You know, people are good at deceiving themselves. 00:08:11.379 --> 00:08:13.939 That deception that there's something that 00:09:14.879 --> 00:09:17.180 the decisions you make will impact your life. 00:09:18.680 --> 00:09:21.280 Being a believer doesn't insulate you 00:09:21.280 --> 00:09:23.860 from the result of sin. 00:09:25.180 --> 00:09:26.820 You know, just because you're a believer, 00:09:26.980 --> 00:09:28.320 if you break the law, guess what? 00:09:28.360 --> 00:09:29.300 You're going to pay the penalty.
