realities and now we pick up the reading at verse 13. 00:09:25.639 --> 00:09:29.800 Therefore, in light of this glorious hope God has called you to, 00:09:31.399 --> 00:09:34.779 preparing your minds for action and being sober-minded, 00:09:34.779 --> 00:09:41.240 set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 00:09:42.039 --> 00:09:47.000 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 00:09:48.000 --> 00:09:54.000 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct. 00:09:54.559 --> 00:10:00.120 Since it is written, you shall be holy for I am holy. 00:10:01.039 --> 00:10:02.419 This is God's holy word. 00:10:02.419 --> 00:10:03.879 Let's ask for his help. 00:10:04.779 --> 00:11:02.100 Peter highlights two things. 00:11:02.220 --> 00:11:07.420 This is pretty common in the Bible, the negative and the positive, right? 00:11:07.500 --> 00:11:09.100 Often they're together. 00:11:09.360 --> 00:11:16.260 First, this looks like a life shaped less by my priorities without God. 00:11:16.259 --> 00:11:18.939 Look at verse 14. 00:11:20.019 --> 00:11:26.600 Do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance. 00:11:27.600 --> 00:11:31.480 This is the first side of the coin, the negative side, right? 00:11:31.679 --> 00:11:39.939 If being holy is being set apart, this is what we as God's children are set apart from. 00:11:39.940 --> 00:11:49.460 And no more hiding in the shadows, no more disguising as a commoner, no more rolling around in the dirt with warthogs, right? 00:11:50.400 --> 00:11:54.200 You have to leave that life behind to become who you are. 00:11:55.200 --> 00:12:00.260 You can watch this pattern continue through the New Testament, 2 Timothy chapter 2. 00:12:00.259 --> 00:12:12.279 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he'll be a vessel for honorable you set apart as holy, useful to the master of the not their own. 00:12:41.979 --> 00:12:48.159 I would tell you that's one of the most countercultural things that the Bible says anywhere to 21st century people. 00:12:49.439 --> 00:12:51.899 You are describing what the Bible calls repentance. 00:13:15.059 --> 00:13:25.559 When Jesus comes to us and we say yes to Jesus, as a result of that, we say no to other things. 00:13:25.559 --> 00:13:27.939 Other things that claim to offer life. 00:13:28.039 --> 00:13:29.519 When He says, I am life. 00:13:29.599 --> 00:13:31.539 Knowing me is life. 00:13:31.539 --> 00:13:35.620 So we turn from those being molded, shaped, impacted by the things that you used to think would satisfy or fulfill you. 00:14:59.879 --> 00:15:05.360 In my words, these are what my priorities are when God is not in the your expense reports but Peter says don't repent only from that that's not where he's 00:19:12.920 --> 00:19:21.480 focused he says repent from looking to possessions to satisfy you to thinking stuff you think that should shape my life less than it does don't stop at 00:21:06.680 --> 00:21:12.900 the outward action that you should quit to be more holy what's the desire beneath that sin 00:21:44.839 of becoming holy turning from the unholy 00:21:44.839 --> 00:21:54.899 that's where Peter starts but but it's not where he stops leaving that life behind leaving the shadows 00:21:54.899 --> 00:22:02.839 and the warthogs and the common life behind is not all that's needed to become who you were born 00:22:02.839 --> 00:22:10.559 to be if our heroes are going to become the kings that making for the country they will need to fight the hyenas so that the pride is protected 00:22:24.679 --> 00:22:30.379 there's good work that needs to be done these kings have weighty responsibilities on them 00:22:30.379 --> 00:22:35.619 and the king of kings has given the same to you 00:22:35.619 --> 00:22:43.879 he's opened even even greater vistas than these of of wonderful life before his sons
