believes in his claims. 00:00:46.179 --> 00:00:50.320 Another response could be one that goes a bit more like this. 00:00:50.400 --> 00:00:54.480 Well, a Christian, of course, is somebody who engages you are drawn for a while more to one than the other, but the reality is, both exist. 00:02:19.259 --> 00:02:24.019 And when you present that image, you cannot actually exclude the other from it. 00:02:25.579 --> 00:02:32.400 And what I want to suggest to you is that when we look at the way in which Scripture presents God's desire for us to live our lives, 00:02:32.400 --> 00:02:39.420 we have the same kind of thing going on when it comes to the relationship between faith and action, between faith and deeds. 00:02:39.980 --> 00:02:48.319 Yeah, our attention might be drawn to one or the other for a while, but the reality is you can't have one to the exclusion of the other. 00:02:48.319 --> 00:02:58.139 So over these next few minutes, let's just think about what it might look like if actually can sometimes be that that becomes what we live with. 00:03:07.080 --> 00:03:16.120 Let's first of all think about what it might look like were we to have deeds but without faith. people would say, 00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:45.759 well, of course you can live a really morally good life without any kind of faith in Jesus Christ going on. 00:03:46.620 --> 00:03:50.460 Some of the kindest people, some of the most morally good people I know, 00:03:51.979 --> 00:03:55.500 don't profess to believe in Jesus Christ. 00:03:55.599 --> 00:03:57.139 They may not believe in God at all. 00:03:57.139 --> 00:04:02.299 Now, of course, that's real, that's true. 00:04:03.439 --> 00:04:10.319 And we need to be quite clear that there is nothing in that observation that runs contrary to the claims of Christian faith itself. 00:04:10.659 --> 00:04:11.039 Why? 00:04:11.519 --> 00:04:15.239 Because one of the very first things that the Bible tells us, 00:04:15.379 --> 00:04:18.259 that it teaches us about what it is to be a human being, 00:04:18.879 --> 00:04:21.419 is that human beings are fundamentally good. 00:04:22.199 --> 00:04:24.800 And the reason why human beings are fundamentally good 00:04:24.800 --> 00:04:30.240 is because we are created in the image of God, who is good and love. 00:04:32.639 --> 00:04:39.240 That whenever we see the fundamental goodness of human beings, 00:04:39.480 --> 00:04:43.500 that is wired into us, that is part of our DNA, 00:04:44.600 --> 00:04:48.840 what we see is something of the fingerprints of the creation of God, 00:04:48.939 --> 00:04:50.699 who puts it there to begin with. 00:04:50.699 --> 00:04:54.719 So when our hearts are stirred to reach out to others, 00:04:54.719 --> 00:04:58.319 when we actually see that something is wrong and we want to challenge it, 00:04:58.379 --> 00:05:01.199 when we want to do something to make a difference in the world, 00:05:02.099 --> 00:05:06.639 we don't need Christian
