I'll be reading from verses 5 through 10, 00:00:49.340 --> 00:00:54.359 really focusing on the last two verses of the Lord's Prayer. 00:00:55.079 --> 00:01:02.519 I'm describing the first three petitions of the Lord's Prayer, but I wanted to read some of the context as well. 00:01:03.420 --> 00:01:10.219 So if you have your Bibles, please turn to Matthew 6, verses 5 through 10, or you can pray repetitiously. 00:04:01.939 --> 00:04:06.060 But almost every week, we pray this prayer He's taught us 00:04:06.060 --> 00:04:10.099 very repetitiously, almost mindlessly, religiously. 00:04:13.140 --> 00:04:16.000 Well, the passage that we examined, that we read, 00:04:16.420 --> 00:04:20.740 comes in the context of Jesus' disciples asking Him how to pray. 00:04:22.319 --> 00:04:25.519 And after teaching His disciples how not to pray, 00:04:27.259 --> 00:04:29.500 Jesus gives this model prayer. 00:04:29.500 --> 00:04:34.339 But what is presupposed in this prayer 00:04:34.339 --> 00:04:38.319 is a completely different way of looking at life 00:04:38.319 --> 00:04:42.000 and our relationship with God. 00:04:43.600 --> 00:04:49.540 You see, Jesus doesn't want us simply to utter this prayer mindlessly, 00:04:49.920 --> 00:04:50.720 repetitiously, 00:04:50.720 --> 00:04:54.980 but to adopt the worldview, 00:04:56.840 --> 00:04:58.380 the set of values, 00:04:58.500 --> 00:05:01.580 the kingdom perspective that this prayer assumes. 00:05:03.520 --> 00:05:05.400 And you see, it's this perspective 00:05:05.400 --> 00:05:08.040 that's almost behind this prayer 00:05:08.040 --> 00:05:11.720 that helps shape, 00:05:12.360 --> 00:05:12.820 I'm sorry, 00:05:12.920 --> 00:05:14.720 helps shape our sense of purpose 00:05:14.720 --> 00:05:16.580 and our direction in life. 00:05:16.579 --> 00:05:21.439 And it also informs our collective call to world missions. 00:05:23.180 --> 00:05:23.659 And so today, 00:05:23.779 --> 00:05:25.000 we're going to be looking at 00:05:25.000 --> 00:05:27.579 the first three phrases in this prayer, 00:05:27.740 --> 00:05:28.699 the opening address, 00:05:29.839 --> 00:05:30.439 Our Father. 00:05:32.719 --> 00:05:33.459 And then second, 00:05:33.740 --> 00:05:34.899 Hallowed be Your name. 00:05:35.039 --> 00:05:35.639 And finally, 00:05:36.939 --> 00:05:38.039 Your kingdom come, 00:05:38.560 --> 00:05:40.279 Your will be done on earth 00:05:40.279 --> 00:05:41.419 as it is in heaven. 00:05:41.420 --> 00:05:46.800 Well, what is the first thing that we pray? 00:05:49.060 --> 00:05:50.780 Our Father in heaven. 00:05:52.780 --> 00:05:55.180 And what is presupposed is that we have 00:05:55.180 --> 00:05:58.139 a relationship with God 00:05:58.139 --> 00:06:00.100 as Father. 00:06:02.060 --> 00:06:03.460 You see, earlier in this chapter, 00:06:03.620 --> 00:06:06.040 Jesus speaks against the hypocrites 00:06:06.040 --> 00:06:08.960 who prayed in order to be what? 00:06:08.959 --> 00:06:12.019 He'd be seen by men. 00:06:13.639 --> 00:06:14.719 You see, their problem was 00:06:14.719 --> 00:06:17.000 they didn't have a genuine relationship 00:06:17.000 --> 00:06:19.120 with God as Father. 00:06:19.959 --> 00:06:21.680 And even though they were religious, 00:06:23.339 --> 00:06:25.439 their religion didn't go beyond 00:06:25.439 --> 00:06:27.000 their culture. 00:06:30.060 --> 00:06:32.500 They were just acting as if they knew God. 00:06:34.379 --> 00:06:36.379 And so what we must recognize 00:06:36.379 --> 00:06:37.560 before anything else 00:06:37.560 --> 00:06:39.780 conscious of it or not, 00:07:05.040 --> 00:07:08.580 is really a striving to reconnect 00:07:08.580 --> 00:07:10.520 with the One who has made us, 00:07:10.580 --> 00:07:12.260 the One who has
