made an image of gold, whose height was three score cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits. 00:01:54.380 --> 00:01:57.580 He set it up in the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. 00:01:57.740 because that's the way it's supposed to be set up for us. 00:05:37.859 --> 00:05:41.399 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not have that kind of situation. 00:05:42.319 --> 00:05:45.139 They were living under an absolute monarchy. 00:05:46.099 --> 00:05:49.159 Nebuchadnezzar was the supreme ruler, 00:05:49.160 --> 00:05:54.220 and he was set up so that whatever he said happened. 00:05:54.860 pagan cultures that we read about in the Bible, 00:06:20.840 --> 00:06:23.500 the supreme rulers were considered as gods. 00:06:23.620 --> 00:06:24.680 This was true in Egypt. 00:06:24.819 --> 00:06:25.900 This was true in Babylon. 00:06:26.220 --> 00:06:27.360 This was true in Assyria. 00:06:27.439 --> 00:06:28.760 The people that were in charge, 00:06:29.100 --> 00:06:30.800 the absolute emperor and king, 00:06:31.120 --> 00:06:33.140 was not only considered a ruler, 00:06:33.280 --> 00:06:35.020 and he was an absolute ruler, 00:06:35.460 --> 00:06:36.439 and often a tyrant, 00:06:36.720 --> 00:06:37.939 and often very, very cruel, 00:06:38.600 --> 00:06:40.920 but he was also considered a god, 00:06:41.320 --> 00:06:43.420 and worship was made to that ruler. 00:06:43.420 --> 00:06:45.620 Well, this put Shadrach, 00:06:45.759 --> 00:06:47.140 these three Hebrews, 00:06:47.800 --> 00:06:49.340 into a very delicate position 00:06:49.340 --> 00:06:52.420 because they were in exile. 00:06:53.420 --> 00:06:54.240 You've got to remember, 00:06:54.780 --> 00:06:56.180 Babylon had come in, 00:06:56.280 --> 00:06:57.100 they had conquered, 00:06:57.300 --> 00:06:58.460 they had taken spoil, 00:06:58.580 --> 00:06:59.600 they had taken prisoners, 00:06:59.819 --> 00:07:02.939 and they had hauled them off to Babylon. 00:07:02.939 --> 00:07:03.100 Babylon. 00:07:05.000 --> 00:07:06.519 These were three young men 00:07:06.519 --> 00:07:10.339 who found themselves isolated in a foreign land. 00:07:11.120 --> 00:07:12.199 They were surrounded, 00:07:12.680 --> 00:07:13.959 not by familiar scenes, 00:07:14.120 --> 00:07:15.540 not by familiar places, 00:07:15.740 --> 00:07:16.800 not by familiar people, 00:07:16.879 --> 00:07:17.959 but they were surrounded 00:07:17.959 --> 00:07:20.399 by things entirely strange and different. 00:07:21.199 --> 00:07:22.259 They were surrounded by people 00:07:22.259 --> 00:07:23.399 of a different language. 00:07:24.420 --> 00:08:01.819 So you can imagine 00:08:01.819 --> 00:08:03.180 that they felt quite intimidated. 00:08:04.100 --> 00:08:05.139 You can imagine they felt 00:08:05.139 --> 00:08:06.040 very out of place,
