and a half hours. 00:01:25.679 --> 00:01:27.200 It was pretty intense. 00:01:27.200 --> 00:01:35.700 The person with the confidence in himself ended up railroading just about everybody in his life. And the priests were to take this Ark and wade into the Jordan. 00:05:18.240 --> 00:05:22.300 Now we're going to see later on that there's something remarkable about the Jordan at this time of year. from Israel's wanderings through the desert. 00:08:47.159 --> 00:08:49.120 It is very sacred to them. 00:08:49.879 --> 00:08:55.220 But what is the most important part of the ark of the covenant is omnipresent. 00:09:04.000 --> 00:09:12.620 But he chooses a physical means to convey a reality, a spiritual reality to the people. 00:09:12.879 --> 00:09:14.100 That he is amongst them. 00:09:14.720 the ark is this representation of the presence of God. 00:09:25.440 --> 00:09:30.220 So consider how the Israelites must feel. 00:09:31.220 --> 00:09:39.560 They have a bit of a different posture going into the promised land than they did 40 years ago. 00:09:40.380 --> 00:09:45.780 Nevertheless, one of the biggest things that Israel will have to overcome in the promised land 00:09:45.780 --> 00:09:48.160 isn't how strong and mighty these people are, 00:09:48.240 --> 00:09:51.900 but it's their perception of how strong and mighty these people are 00:09:51.900 --> 00:09:55.260 in light of their own weaknesses and their shortcomings. 00:09:56.160 --> 00:10:00.660 So right off the bat, right off the bat, God is going to communicate to his people, 00:10:01.720 --> 00:10:02.440 I am with 00:10:24.559 What confidence would this give to the average Israelite? 00:10:24.699 --> 00:10:28.379 Especially thinking, like, is this going to be the same thing that happened with Moses? 00:10:28.379 --> 00:10:33.080 Okay, we're getting a bit farther than Moses did 40 years ago. 00:10:33.600 --> 00:10:34.759 But it's the same people. 00:10:35.139 --> 00:10:37.059 Are we going to quake in our boots? 00:10:37.559 --> 00:10:39.399 Is this going to be a repeat of what happened? 00:10:39.939 --> 00:10:42.860 And yet the Lord is saying, I will go before you. 00:10:42.860 --> 00:10:47.139 I'm going to be the strong and mighty one. 00:10:47.139 --> 00:10:55.039 Listen to what Joshua continues to say, starting in verse 9 and going to verse 11 of chapter 3. 00:10:55.039 --> 00:10:58.480 And Joshua said to the people of Israel, 00:10:59.259 --> 00:11:02.599 Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. 00:11:03.679 --> 00:11:04.579 And Joshua said, 00:11:05.199 --> 00:11:08.699 Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you, 00:11:09.179 --> 00:11:17.539 and that he will, without fail, drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, 00:11:18.279 --> 00:11:20.759 the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. 00:11:20.759 --> 00:11:27.259 Behold, the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into the Jordan. 00:11:28.700 --> 00:11:29.439 Did you catch that? 00:11:31.000 --> 00:11:35.819 The people of Israel will know that the living God is amongst them, again and again and again, 00:12:33.080 --> 00:12:37.600 and you ask the question, why is this showing up so often? 00:12:39.100 --> 00:12:43.879 It's the Lord communicating something to you, to me. 00:13:07.840 In many respects, the people of Israel will be spectators. 00:13:09.420 --> 00:13:15.680 God is inviting them to watch and behold and be mesmerized at what he is about to do. 00:13:17.820
