all of those things in His Word, and so that's why we come back to it week after week. 00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:03.640 If you've been with us, you know that we're in the book of 1 Peter, 00:01:03.759 --> 00:01:05.159 and the book of 1 Peter is a letter. 00:01:05.859 --> 00:01:07.980 It's a letter written by a man named Peter, 00:01:08.159 --> 00:01:11.920 and he writes it to churches that are in modern-day Turkey. 00:01:12.260 --> 00:01:14.879 These churches are in the first century A.D. 00:01:14.879 --> 00:01:18.039 And he writes to them because they are facing some challenges. 00:01:18.239 --> 00:01:20.899 They are feeling out of place in the world, 00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:24.219 and they're facing opposition from the world because they're Christians, 00:01:24.319 --> 00:01:25.579 because they follow after Jesus. 00:01:26.840 --> 00:01:30.340 And so Peter writes to them to encourage them and also to instruct them. 00:01:30.560 --> 00:01:33.140 He writes to them to encourage putting away of malice and slander and hypocrisy. 00:02:07.659 --> 00:02:09.580 And now we continue to look at the church community, 00:02:09.740 --> 00:02:12.919 asking questions like, how is it different than other communities? 00:02:14.219 --> 00:02:17.139 And what does the church as a community have to do with suffering? 00:02:17.259 --> 00:02:20.599 If this is a book about people who are
