sinners. 00:00:30.000 --> 00:00:40.560 Now this psalm is very much a psalm of devotion where David is making very clear where his heart lies. 00:00:41.679 --> 00:00:46.079 David shows very clearly what he loves and what he hates. 00:00:46.079 --> 00:00:54.980 He hates the congregation, the gathering of evil people, of sinners, of those who don't know the Lord, don't want the Lord. 00:00:54.979 --> 00:01:05.259 And he shows very clearly that he loves to be in God's house with those who worship the Lord, those who are like-minded with himself. 00:01:06.239 --> 00:01:10.920 And our choices will very often reveal where our heart lies. 00:01:11.500 --> 00:01:21.079 The choices that we make in life as we go about life very often will indicate to us just what our heart is really about. 00:01:21.079 --> 00:01:33.620 And so we find that in Psalm 26, 27 and 28, David is really highlighting, it's a theme that runs through the three psalms, his love of God's sanctuary. 00:01:34.379 --> 00:01:40.079 Now as we know, God's house at this time, in David's time, was still the tabernacle. 00:01:40.980 --> 00:01:46.420 And you remember how David had, he was saying, it's not right that I'm living in this beautiful palace. 00:01:46.420 --> 00:01:51.040 And God's, it's being worshipped in a tent. 00:01:52.140 --> 00:01:56.200 And so it was in his heart and his mind to build a temple for the Lord. 00:01:57.019 --> 00:02:00.740 Now the Lord was very pleased with David's desire. 00:02:01.719 --> 00:02:08.120 But he communicated to David, while your desire is a good one, I'm not going to let you build it. 00:02:08.539 --> 00:02:10.340 Because you've been a man of blood. 00:02:11.159 --> 00:02:13.340 Because your hands are red with blood. 00:02:13.340 --> 00:02:16.159 But David had been a warrior most of his days. 00:02:17.259 --> 00:02:27.780 But God said to him, though the desire is right, your son, who will be a man of peace, and that was Solomon, your son will build a temple for me. 00:02:28.199 --> 00:02:34.780 So David devoted so much of his time after that towards planning as much as he could, 00:02:35.140 --> 00:02:40.819 and of gathering as much wealth as he could for the building of the temple. 00:02:40.819 --> 00:02:47.359 Now David is very aware in this psalm that God is the one who proves us and tests us. 00:02:47.400 --> 00:02:48.859 He tells us that in verse 2. 00:02:49.780 --> 00:02:51.759 That God is the one who searches our heart. 00:02:51.859 --> 00:02:54.659 He knows absolutely everything about us. 00:02:55.379 --> 00:02:58.840 Our motives, our desires, our inclinations. 00:02:59.500 --> 00:03:01.019 Why we do what we do. 00:03:01.680 --> 00:03:04.639 Our every thought, our every word, our every action. 00:03:04.639 --> 00:03:15.559 And David is, knowing that God knows that about him, is pleading before God his integrity of life and heart. 00:03:16.439 --> 00:03:21.119 Now we know that David was an incredibly faithful servant of God. 00:03:21.119 --> 00:03:28.679 The life of David, as you read it, is a life that was devoted to God and served God and praised God. 00:03:28.680 --> 00:03:32.719 Of course, David fell spectacularly. 00:03:33.460 --> 00:03:34.360 He fell terribly. 00:03:35.719 --> 00:03:37.680 And we know about that. 00:03:38.540 --> 00:03:44.099 But the main thrust of David's life, the main way his life was guided, 00:03:44.439 --> 00:03:49.860 was in order to serve the Lord and to follow the Lord all his days. 00:03:49.960 --> 00:03:52.480 That is very, very clear in David's life. 00:03:52.479 --> 00:04:01.039 Now David is aware that not everybody that comes to God's house comes to worship God in spirit and in truth. 00:04:01.639 --> 00:04:02.659 That there are hypocrites. 00:04:03.259 --> 00:04:11.379 That there are those who use religion, as it were, as a cloak to hide, to cover their evil doings. 00:04:11.879 --> 00:04:12.539 They're hypocrites. 00:04:12.699 --> 00:04:17.860 And David was wise enough and discerning enough to know who they were. 00:04:17.920 --> 00:04:19.719 And he didn't want to keep company with them. 00:04:19.720 --> 00:04:24.460 He wanted to keep company with God's people, not with the hypocrites. 00:04:25.540 --> 00:04:28.160 And that's why he says in verse 4, 00:04:28.280 --> 00:04:33.040 I do not sit with men of falsehood, nor do I consort with then again, we find, as we saw in verse 4, that he does not sit with the hypocrites. 00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:20.120 And we find that his foot stands on level ground in verse 13. 00:05:20.719 --> wasn't our real heart. 00:06:43.819 --> 00:06:47.879 And sometimes we went thinking that God owed us something. 00:06:48.300 --> 00:06:50.199 You know, there were times, maybe way back, 00:06:50.819 --> 00:06:52.460 when you thought, you know, if I go to church, 00:06:52.900 --> 00:06:54.720 maybe God will do something for me. 00:06:55.199 --> 00:06:57.420 We're trying to bargain with God a wee bit. 00:06:57.980 --> 00:07:02.080 So there were various reasons why we might have gone to church. 00:07:03.120 --> 00:07:05.580 But then a day came when that changed. 00:07:06.540 --> 00:07:09.580 Because that day came when we began to see 00:07:09.580 --> 00:07:13.360 that we were sinners in the hand of an angry God. 00:07:13.360 --> 00:07:19.420 But the wonderful thing was that side by side with this discovery 00:07:19.420 --> 00:07:24.060 was the fact that this angry God had actually made provision 00:07:24.060 --> 00:07:29.040 for us as sinners in his Son, Jesus Christ. 00:07:30.319
