We'll look to this psalm this evening, so we're saying, just preparing ourselves, thinking about coming to the Lord's table, God willing, this weekend. 00:00:12.880 --> 00:00:18.500 Psalm 24. We'll just read again at verse 3. 00:00:42.880 --> 00:01:04.020 Psalm 24. We may be familiar with it. In fact, we're familiar maybe with this section of psalms. It's a psalm that comes together really with Psalm 22 and 23 as well. 00:01:04.019 --> 00:01:17.459 They're all closely connected. Psalm 23, of course, is probably the most famous psalm in the world. People know it in many different tongues, many different nations, many different people around the world. 00:01:17.459 --> 00:01:29.919 They'll sing that psalm about the Lord as shepherd, the shepherd who leads his sheep through all sorts of dangers to a place that they will be safe forevermore. 00:01:30.539 --> 00:01:36.219 A place the Lord is preparing even now for his people, a place we call heaven. 00:01:36.219 --> 00:01:49.859 But one of the questions that arises out of Psalm 23, and indeed as you're going through the word of God as a whole, the question often arises is how do we find our way? 00:01:50.319 --> 00:01:52.579 How do we find our way there? 00:01:53.239 --> 00:02:02.620 We have it in John's gospel as well, when they're asking the Lord, you know, he's saying, I'm going away, I'm going to prepare a place for you. 00:02:02.620 --> 00:02:05.439 And the question is asked, how shall we know the way? 00:02:06.040 --> 00:02:10.120 Well, Jesus says, I am the way, the truth and the life. 00:02:10.659 --> 00:02:13.860 So it's the question that keeps arising even for ourselves. 00:02:14.539 --> 00:02:17.460 Maybe at times in our life we've asked that question, how? 00:02:17.900 --> 00:02:19.360 How can we find our way? 00:02:19.400 --> 00:02:25.020 And maybe even still we ask that question even as we think of preparing ourselves to come to the Lord's table. 00:02:25.120 --> 00:02:28.520 How can I go to the Lord's table? 00:02:28.520 --> 00:02:33.320 And the answer is not found in looking to ourselves. 00:02:34.020 --> 00:02:37.640 It's looking beyond ourselves, past ourselves. 00:02:37.780 --> 00:02:40.120 And that's really what these Psalms do for us. 00:02:40.620 --> 00:02:47.060 They remind us that the way we look to is not in ourselves and of ourselves, but we look to the Lord. 00:02:47.760 --> 00:02:54.080 The Lord as our shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is our saviour. 00:02:54.080 --> 00:03:00.700 And so as we come to this Psalm, Psalm 24, it's in the midst of this section. 00:03:01.500 --> 00:03:08.500 Psalm 22 reminds us of the shepherd laying down his life for the sheep. 00:03:08.580 --> 00:03:12.120 It's very much a Psalm as you go through it, familiar with it. 00:03:13.520 --> 00:03:16.900 It's the words of Jesus on the cross are there. 00:03:17.000 --> 00:03:18.980 Why have you forsaken me, O Lord? 00:03:19.080 --> 00:03:22.260 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? 00:03:22.259 --> 00:03:25.780 The very words that Jesus spoke on the cross. 00:03:26.599 --> 00:03:32.799 So we have there the reminder that Jesus went to die for his sheep. 00:03:33.219 --> 00:03:39.159 Then in Psalm 23, we have the shepherd caring for his sheep. 00:03:39.979 --> 00:03:43.219 Showing that great care that he leads his sheep. 00:03:43.599 --> 00:03:49.399 Whether it's by the still waters, the green pastures, or even through the valley of the shadow of death, 00:03:49.400 --> 00:03:53.140 the shepherd is there to lead his sheep. 00:03:54.020 --> 00:04:02.180 And then in Psalm 24, as we come to it this evening, we find the shepherd crowned in glory. 00:04:03.099 --> 00:04:09.719 And in many ways, as you see at the end of the Psalm, it's the shepherd then leading his flock home. 00:04:09.719 --> 00:04:23.399 Sometimes these three Psalms together are described as the cross, Psalm 22, the crook, Psalm 23, the crook being the shepherd's crook, the shepherd's stick, and the crown. 00:04:23.920 --> 00:04:29.839 Because you see the crown here, the king of glory is crowned in glory. 00:04:29.839 --> 00:04:37.939 And Psalm 24 is very much, as you read through it, there's a sense of a procession going forward here. 00:04:38.560 --> 00:04:40.619 A procession of joy. 00:04:41.219 --> 00:04:46.259 A procession of people who are rejoicing in the Lord. 00:04:46.739 --> 00:04:50.879 And we're reminded of three things in this Psalm. 00:04:50.879 --> 00:04:54.180 We see three different sections in this Psalm. 00:04:54.240 --> 00:04:58.879 And they remind us of why we can rejoice in God. 00:04:59.759 --> 00:05:05.659 We sometimes speak about people who have lost their way in life. 00:05:06.579 --> 00:05:09.719 We can speak about, in that way, about others. 00:05:10.360 --> 00:05:12.699 They've lost their way in life. 00:05:12.839 --> 00:05:14.459 People who are getting on well. 00:05:14.600 --> 00:05:15.879 Things are going well in life. 00:05:15.879 --> 00:05:20.759 But for one reason or another, their life has taken a different direction. 00:05:21.420 --> 00:05:24.540 One that's left them in trouble and despair. 00:05:25.519 --> 00:05:27.259 We speak about it in that way. 00:05:27.339 --> 00:05:30.459 And we hope that they'll find their way back. 00:05:30.519 --> 00:05:34.100 That they'll find their way back on track in life once again. 00:05:34.180 --> 00:05:36.980 And we maybe seek to help people do that. 00:05:37.719 --> 00:05:43.560 But we don't just look away from ourselves when we think of people who have lost their way in life. 00:05:43.560 --> 00:05:47.540 Because it's true of every one of us. 00:05:48.300 --> 00:05:51.939 We've all lost our way in life. 00:06:44.519 We also see in it the people of God asking the questions. 00:06:44.519 --> 00:06:46.560 As we have in verse 3. 00:06:46.719 --> 00:06:49.159 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? 00:06:49.219 --> 00:06:53.979 How can we possibly come to this God of all authority and power? 00:06:53.980 --> 00:06:59.300 But then in the last section, we see how we are led by a king. 00:06:59.960 --> 00:07:03.200 A king who goes before us. 00:07:03.960 --> 00:07:10.660 And there is a real reality here of how clearly we see the Lord Jesus right through the Old Testament. 00:07:11.480 -->
