confidence in God. 00:29:01.680 --> 00:29:06.640 And the setting for it, as we find in the title, is when he was in the wilderness of Judah. 00:29:06.640 --> 00:29:12.759 We're not sure that it was exactly at the same time as he was fleeing from Absalom, 00:29:12.880 --> 00:29:15.220 but it certainly fits the context. 00:29:15.740 --> 00:29:17.100 And when you look at verse 11 there, 00:29:17.200 --> 00:29:20.540 the king shall rejoice in God and what it says. 00:29:20.940 --> 00:29:28.640 It appears that that is a very likely context for this psalm to have been written 00:29:28.640 --> 00:29:35.180 in relation to David's experiences in the wilderness when he had to flee for a time from Absalom. 00:29:35.640 --> 00:29:40.960 When Absalom had gathered support from many of the people and risen up against David 00:29:40.960 --> 00:29:43.960 and forced him to leave the city as king. 00:29:44.980 --> 00:29:46.800 And here in this great confession of faith, 00:29:47.340 --> 00:29:51.880 we have something that is so very important and relevant to ourselves. 00:29:51.880 --> 00:29:57.160 In our wilderness experiences, David is obviously literally in the wilderness, 00:29:57.880 --> 00:30:03.280 but God's people have always taken this psalm to be emblematic or symptomatic 00:30:03.280 --> 00:30:07.360 or a picture for them, an image for them, 00:30:07.820 --> 00:30:13.720 of the difficulties that they go through in this life that can actually be described as wilderness, 00:30:13.720 --> 00:30:19.000 can be described as going through difficult times such as you go through physically 00:30:19.000 --> 00:30:24.460 when you go through, as he says here, a dry and weary land where there is no water. 00:30:25.160 --> 00:30:29.220 And that has been the experience of people over the past couple of years, 00:30:29.299 --> 00:30:34.079 especially during the more serious lockdown and the aftermath of that 00:30:34.079 --> 00:30:37.880 with the COVID restrictions that were then put in place. 00:30:38.460 --> 00:30:43.660 And some people, of course, are still finding it very difficult to recover from that, 00:30:43.759 --> something to you, 00:31:10.480 --> 00:31:17.420 to reassure you, to encourage you, to bring you this measure of praise to God 00:31:17.420 --> 00:31:23.440 that will draw you to be with God's people 00:31:29.019 --> 00:31:34.660 Verses one to four, first of all, we'll take that as David's desire after God. 00:31:34.660 --> 00:31:40.920 And then in verses five to eight, we'll call that David's delight, and there's David's defense. 00:31:53.119 --> 00:32:00.879 And as we go through these, I hope we'll see how they are relevant to our own circumstances in life, 00:32:00.919 --> 00:32:03.139
