abilities 00:01:23.439 --> 00:01:26.120 that we can use to serve Him and to serve the body. 00:01:26.120 --> 00:01:28.760 But one thing we see throughout Scripture, 00:01:29.020 --> 00:01:30.460 and particularly in the New Testament, 00:01:31.040 --> 00:01:37.660 is that one of the ways historically that the church expressed its love for one another, 00:01:38.020 --> 00:01:39.719 that the church served one another, 00:01:39.840 --> 00:01:42.680 was by praying for one another. 00:01:43.060 --> 00:01:44.700 In fact, did you know that in our Bible, 00:01:44.920 --> 00:01:49.100 there are around 650 prayers in the Bible? 00:01:49.680 --> 00:01:51.200 Around 650 prayers. 00:01:51.200 --> 00:01:53.240 And when we look into the New Testament, 00:01:53.439 --> 00:01:55.020 what we see over and over again, 00:01:55.420 --> 00:01:57.780 particularly in the writings of the Apostle Paul, 00:01:58.140 --> 00:02:02.939 is Paul is clear that one way we love one another in the church 00:02:02.939 --> 00:02:05.659 is by praying for one another. 00:02:06.020 --> 00:02:10.240 And so I want us to spend just a few moments in God's Word this morning 00:02:10.240 --> 00:02:15.000 looking at an example of one of these prayers that Paul provides 00:02:15.000 --> 00:02:19.319 and how you and I can learn from that and better pray for one another. 00:02:19.460 --> 00:02:26.960 Now, let me say right up front that sometimes I think we over-spiritualize prayer. 00:02:27.860 --> 00:02:29.699 And what I mean by that is sometimes we think, 00:02:29.819 --> 00:02:30.819 oh, well, you know, 00:02:30.900 --> 00:02:34.800 prayers for those who are like the Green Berets of Christianity 00:02:34.800 --> 00:02:36.560 or for those who are super spiritual. 00:02:36.920 --> 00:02:38.780 And, you know, I could never do that. 00:02:38.780 --> 00:02:42.819 But the reality is intercessory prayer is a big fancy word. 00:02:43.319 --> 00:02:46.840 It simply means talking to God on behalf of other people. 00:02:47.699 --> 00:02:50.599 Talking to God on behalf of other people. 00:02:50.680 --> 00:02:52.939 And let's just simplify prayer to mean that. 00:02:53.439 --> 00:02:56.039 That when we use the word prayer this morning, 00:02:56.120 --> 00:03:00.219 what we simply mean is you and I talking to our loving Father 00:03:00.219 --> 00:03:03.340 about other people that He loves and that we love. 00:03:03.580 --> 00:03:04.620 And so with that in mind, 00:03:04.639 --> 00:03:07.500 I want to invite you to turn to the book of Philippians chapter 1. 00:03:07.500 --> 00:03:10.599 Philippians chapter 1, we'll begin in verse 1. 00:03:11.259 --> 00:03:14.520 And we're going to spend just a few moments looking at intercessory prayer 00:03:14.520 --> 00:03:18.580 and how we can use that as a way to express our love for one another. 00:03:18.860 --> 00:03:22.639 Philippians chapter 1, beginning in verse 1. 00:03:23.460 --> 00:03:24.920 And the Apostle Paul writes this. 00:03:25.039 --> churches 00:05:34.500 --> 00:05:35.960 that we have in the New Testament. 00:05:36.400 --> 00:05:40.720 And there's something special about this letter to the church at Philippi. 00:05:41.220 --> 00:05:43.840 It's the only letter that he writes to a church 00:05:43.840 --> 00:05:45.660 that does not contain a rebuke. 00:05:45.940 --> 00:05:48.500 He's not writing to correct them of something. 00:05:48.600 --> 00:05:52.220 In fact, the key word to the book of Philippians is joy. 00:05:52.640 --> 00:05:54.140 And he uses it over and over. 00:05:54.139 --> 00:05:58.680 This is a local church that has brought joy to him personally 00:05:58.680 --> 00:06:00.519 and to his ministry we see later. 00:06:01.060 --> 00:06:04.139 And so Paul, it almost reads like a love letter, does it not? 00:06:04.219 --> 00:06:06.800 Where he just kind of gushes over them. 00:06:06.879 --> 00:06:07.680 Look at verse 7. 00:06:08.060 --> 00:06:08.399 He says, 00:06:08.620 --> 00:06:11.279 It is right for me to feel this way about you all 00:06:11.279 --> 00:06:13.819 because I hold you in my heart. 00:06:14.139 --> 00:06:14.339 Right? 00:06:14.779 --> 00:06:15.699 And he says, 00:06:16.060 --> you'll love Jesus more and more. 00:07:08.379 --> 00:07:10.500 That you'll abound in your love for him. 00:07:10.679 --> 00:07:12.799 And it's a beautiful word here in the Greek. 00:07:12.800 -->
