Isaiah 25 at verse number 6. 00:00:12.740 --> 00:00:25.480 On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, a rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. 00:00:26.120 --> 00:00:34.859 And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all the peoples, the veil that is spread over all the nations. 00:00:35.420 --> 00:00:38.320 And so on down to the end of verse number 8. 00:00:38.320 --> 00:00:51.859 We want to continue today to plot a path through this prophecy of Isaiah and we have already done so by looking at Isaiah chapter 6 and Isaiah chapter 12. 00:00:52.679 --> 00:00:59.719 And in these chapters we saw something of the way in which Isaiah as somebody who was representing the people, 00:00:59.719 --> 00:01:07.640 the way he came to experience the presence of the glory of God and the way in which that impacted his own life. 00:01:08.319 --> 00:01:13.659 And the message that God gave to him as somebody who was then willing to serve the Lord. 00:01:14.399 --> 00:01:22.939 And then in Isaiah chapter 12 we saw the way in which the experience of that salvation that Isaiah 6 speaks of. 00:01:22.939 --> 00:01:26.199 The way in which that brings about a transformation. 00:01:26.959 --> 00:01:30.060 The way in which it speaks of joy in the person's life. 00:01:30.060 --> 00:01:37.299 And the way in which we come to sing the song of God because of God's salvation. 00:01:38.799 --> 00:01:50.200 And as we journey on through the book we do notice that Isaiah uses a particular strategy to drive home certain key points. 00:01:50.200 --> 00:01:56.200 And the strategy is the use of contrasts. 00:01:56.200 --> 00:02:00.299 Highlighting differences between different emphases. 00:02:01.359 --> 00:02:04.420 And he does so to create an emphasis. 00:02:05.140 --> 00:02:07.260 He does so to deepen the meaning. 00:02:07.840 --> 00:02:10.740 But he does so also to capture attention. 00:02:10.740 --> 00:02:16.260 It's a valuable mechanism, a tool in any walk of life. 00:02:16.260 --> 00:02:19.260 If we're describing anything, to use contrasts. 00:02:20.120 --> 00:02:22.820 And so give that picture of opposite. 00:02:23.100 --> 00:02:28.540 So that we see the significance of one thing as opposed to the other. 00:02:29.320 --> 00:02:34.260 And one of the great contrasts in the Bible of course is, as Paul speaks in Ephesians, 00:02:34.259 --> 00:02:39.239 In Ephesians, once you were darkness, now are you light in the Lord. 00:02:40.319 --> 00:02:49.399 How different are you that these are the extremities, the contrast, darkness, and now you are light in the Lord. 00:02:49.399 --> 00:02:56.799 So the contrast brings out particular characteristics that highlight certain things. 00:02:57.699 --> 00:03:03.680 And Isaiah uses contrast in three particular areas that help us to understand what he's saying. 00:03:04.259 --> 00:03:07.899 There is a contrast with regard to the people. 00:03:08.759 --> 00:03:11.919 There is a contrast with regard to kings. 00:03:12.939 --> 00:03:16.959 And there is a contrast with regard to places. 00:03:18.099 --> 00:03:25.859 And in this chapter today, we are in one of these places where Isaiah is using contrasts with regard to places 00:03:25.859 --> 00:03:30.280 to highlight the importance of God's salvation. 00:03:31.099 --> 00:03:33.859 And we do want to look at these verses in this chapter today. 00:03:34.259 --> 00:03:41.939 And to think of the life of faith and the future glory of the kingdom of God. 00:03:42.939 --> 00:03:48.639 We want to think first of all of the contrast and the privilege. 00:03:49.719 --> 00:03:53.539 The honor placed on certain people. 00:03:53.539 --> 00:03:58.299 And when we think of the privilege, we think first of all of a place. 00:03:59.379 --> 00:04:00.759 And there is a location. 00:04:01.400 --> 00:04:04.139 And the location is on this mountain. 00:04:05.419 --> 00:04:09.079 And this mountain is the mountain that we sang of in Psalm number 48. 00:04:09.719 --> 00:04:13.419 It's the mountain that we read of in 1 Kings, the first few chapters, 00:04:13.419 --> 00:04:19.139 where Solomon builds the king's house and the temple, the God's house, 00:04:19.139 --> 00:04:25.500 where on Mount Zion he builds all of these beautiful buildings where God will dwell. 00:04:26.199 --> 00:04:32.519 On this mountain, Mount Zion, at the very center of the message of the Old Testament. 00:04:32.519 --> 00:04:39.120 And when we follow the story of this mountain that began in all of its glory, 00:04:39.899 --> 00:04:44.240 we see that this mountain ultimately comes to be a pile of rubble. 00:04:45.039 --> 00:04:48.240 Because Nebuchadnezzar comes into Jerusalem. 00:04:49.019 --> 00:04:50.500 He burns the king's house. 00:04:51.159 --> 00:04:52.699 He burns the Lord's house. 00:04:52.699 --> 00:04:57.800 And he takes away all of the valuables that were in both houses. 00:04:58.479 --> 00:05:03.639 And he did so because the people rebelled against God. 00:05:04.180 --> 00:05:07.680 And God comes to judge them because of their rebellion. 00:05:08.939 --> 00:05:14.659 And so the glorious Mount Zion with all of its beautiful buildings 00:05:14.659 --> 00:05:20.959 becomes a heap of rubble because of the rebellion of the people. 00:05:20.959 --> 00:05:24.680 And in the beginning of this prophecy in chapter 2, 00:05:24.859 --> 00:05:27.000 we see that that will be reversed. 00:05:27.979 --> 00:05:33.180 That the day will come when God will raise up and establish this mountain once more 00:05:33.180 --> 00:05:39.379 and this house and all the nations will flock to it. 00:05:40.939 --> 00:05:44.560 And when we read our Bibles, we come to understand 00:05:44.560 --> 00:05:48.919 that that moment is not for the here and now. 00:05:48.920 --> 00:05:52.900 We come to understand that that gathering of the nations 00:05:52.900 --> 00:05:57.520 to the glory of Mount Zion is not anywhere here in this world. 00:05:58.020 --> 00:05:59.060 It's not in Jerusalem. 00:05:59.280 --> 00:06:00.500 It's not anywhere on this earth. 00:06:01.259 --> 00:06:06.580 It's what Revelation calls and what Hebrews chapter 12 calls. 00:06:07.120 --> 00:06:11.280 It is Mount Zion, the city of the living God. 00:06:11.279 --> 00:06:18.419 And today we come to think of the glory of the kingdom of God. 00:06:19.419 --> 00:06:24.039 And we are taken, as it were, on the wings of these words 00:06:24.039 --> 00:06:28.239 and raised up in our study of God today 00:06:28.239 --> 00:06:31.979 to think not of the here and now of where we are, 00:06:31.980 --> 00:06:36.879 but where God is bringing his people. 00:06:37.640 --> 00:06:38.720 Mount Zion. 00:06:39.520 --> 00:06:43.220 That must be the focus of our attention. 00:06:44.400 --> 00:06:47.620 We know too well that everything else is broken. 00:06:48.460 --> 00:06:51.140 We know too well that everything else is in ruins. 00:06:52.740 --> 00:06:54.840 And unless we have this hope before us, 00:06:54.839 --> 00:06:56.699 then what is there for us? 00:06:58.759 --> 00:07:00.560 To die in the ruins. 00:07:01.679 --> 00:07:03.719 But that is not the purpose of God. 00:07:04.739 --> 00:07:06.959 There is a privilege because of the place, 00:07:07.399 --> 00:07:12.359 but there is a privilege especially because of the celebration. 00:07:13.779 --> 00:07:15.199 What do we have here? 00:07:15.659 --> 00:07:19.179 We have a celebration where there is a feast of rich food, 00:07:19.599 --> 00:07:20.979 a feast of well-aged wine, 00:07:21.479 --> 00:07:23.000 of rich food full of marrow, 00:07:23.000 --> 00:07:25.439 of aged wine, well-refined. 00:07:25.439 --> 00:07:28.819 We have the feast, the celebration, 00:07:29.720 --> 00:07:31.459 full of all of the rich food 00:07:31.459 --> 00:07:33.980 that is to satisfy all who gather. 00:07:34.379 --> 00:07:37.339 It is the greatest feast of all time. 00:07:39.540 --> 00:07:41.399 And when we read the Old Testament 00:07:41.399 --> 00:07:45.879 and the history of kings in the ancient world, 00:07:46.259 --> 00:07:50.300 we understand that this kind of celebration 00:07:50.300 --> 00:07:52.759 took place on three occasions. 00:07:53.000 --> 00:07:59.819 The first occasion is when God makes a relationship with his people. 00:08:00.819 --> 00:08:03.459 And God did so at Mount Sinai 00:08:03.459 --> 00:08:05.959 with the children of Israel in Exodus 24. 00:08:06.439 --> 00:08:08.439 He made a relationship with his people. 00:08:08.439 --> 00:08:10.660 He gave to them the book of the covenant. 00:08:11.319 --> 00:08:13.579 They promised to be faithful to him. 00:08:13.579 --> 00:08:15.859 And when all that was done, 00:08:15.859 --> 00:08:21.399 they beheld God and they ate and they drank. 00:08:22.399 --> 00:08:26.800 The feast of celebrating that God is uniting himself 00:08:26.800 --> 00:08:30.279 in a relationship with his people on Mount Sinai. 00:08:30.279 --> 00:08:36.100 The second occasion is when the king is crowned. 00:08:36.100 --> 00:08:40.699 And we read of David being crowned over the whole nation of Israel 00:08:40.699 --> 00:08:42.319 in 1 Chronicles chapter 12. 00:08:42.860 --> 00:08:46.039 And there is a celebration for three days, 00:08:46.419 --> 00:08:47.279 eating and drinking, 00:08:47.419 --> 00:08:51.100 because this is a great occasion 00:08:51.100 --> 00:08:54.340 in the experience of the nation. 00:08:54.340 --> 00:09:00.759 And the third occasion when there is such a feast 00:09:00.759 --> 00:09:05.639 is when the king is getting married. 00:09:05.639 --> 00:09:10.399 We know something of that ourselves 00:09:10.399 --> 00:09:11.879 when there is a royal marriage. 00:09:12.000 --> 00:09:14.840 There is a buzz around the nation 00:09:14.840 --> 00:09:17.460 because something really significant is happening. 00:09:17.460 --> 00:09:20.519 But that was true in the Bible. 00:09:20.700 --> 00:09:23.540 And we read in Song of Solomon chapter 1 and chapter 2 00:09:23.540 --> 00:09:27.720 that the bride is brought into the banqueting house 00:09:27.720 --> 00:09:31.759 where the king's banner over her is the banner of love. 00:09:33.000 --> 00:09:35.500 And the summons then in chapter number 2 00:09:35.500 --> 00:09:39.400 come to see the glory of King Solomon 00:09:39.400 --> 00:09:43.740 on the day that his mother crowned him, 00:09:44.240 --> 00:09:45.620 the day of his marriage 00:09:45.620 --> 00:09:48.000 and of the gladness of his heart. 00:09:49.220 --> 00:09:51.779 The celebration of marriage. 00:09:54.340 --> 00:09:57.200 And when I follow this through 00:09:57.200 --> 00:10:00.980 to think of the celebration that this passage speaks of, 00:10:03.080 --> 00:10:05.179 it speaks of the marriage 00:10:05.179 --> 00:10:09.039 between Christ and his church. 00:10:10.399 --> 00:10:15.060 That glorious picture that we have in Revelation 00:10:15.059 --> 00:10:16.859 in chapter number 21 00:10:16.859 --> 00:10:19.799 that the church, the people of God, 00:10:20.179 --> 00:10:23.239 they appear as a bride adorned for a husband. 00:10:24.979 --> 00:10:28.219 And the dwelling place of God is with people. 00:10:29.000 --> 00:10:32.159 God draws near in this marriage relationship. 00:10:34.579 --> 00:10:38.059 Jesus has already been crowned at God's right hand. 00:10:38.059 --> 00:10:42.579 God has already made a covenant through the death of the Lord Jesus. 00:10:43.319 --> 00:10:47.699 This cup, this new covenant in my blood. 00:10:49.339 --> 00:10:51.659 But the marriage is still outstanding. 00:10:53.019 --> 00:10:55.219 And that's what we have in Revelation 21. 00:10:55.220 --> 00:10:58.540 And that's what these verses are pointing to. 00:10:58.899 --> 00:11:00.720 That there is a day coming 00:11:00.720 --> 00:11:03.680 when all of the people of God 00:11:03.680 --> 00:11:06.759 will gather in the city of God 00:11:06.759 --> 00:11:08.879 at the marriage supper of the Lamb, 00:11:09.639 --> 00:11:11.480 having made themselves ready in this world. 00:11:12.320 --> 00:11:15.240 And as Jesus says in the parable in Matthew 22, 00:11:15.240 --> 00:11:19.460 the wedding hall will be filled with guests 00:11:19.460 -->
