background that we're bringing to the text that is going 00:05:56.600 --> 00:06:04.920 to color the way we understand it is what I call one of the major tensions in biblical interpretation. 00:06:04.920 --> 00:06:11.600 And, that major tension is how do we balance general and special revelation? 00:06:12.600 --> 00:06:20.340 So, generally, when we talk about revelation, meaning God's self-expression, we, a lot, historically, 00:06:20.480 --> 00:06:22.740 we've broken that up into two major groups. 00:06:23.420 --> 00:06:23.660 Okay? 00:06:24.259 --> 00:06:26.500 Sometimes, it's described as two books. 00:06:26.980 --> 00:06:31.340 We have the book of nature, also called general revelation. 00:06:31.339 --> 00:06:35.639 It's called general revelation because the general public has access to it. 00:06:36.000 --> 00:06:40.199 Everybody, in principle, has access to the book of nature, that revelation of God. 00:06:40.539 --> 00:06:44.459 And, it's properly understood as And, so, the creation that we have is actually a self-revelation of God. 00:07:00.379 --> 00:07:07.240 He has created it this way for a reason or has actually communicated himself in the creation. get from nature, and special revelation? 00:07:54.639 --> 00:08:03.259 Now, it might be easy just to say, well, look, special revelation, God's active speech in the Bible, 00:08:04.279 --> general, these Christians that believe that the Bible is intending to communicate scientific information at some level, 00:12:54.320 --> 00:13:01.860 and therefore it's our job to fit what we learn
