00:05:10.659 --> 00:05:13.500 beginning back actually in John chapter 13 on 00:05:13.500 --> 00:05:15.739 is that Jesus has been ministering 00:05:15.739 --> 00:05:16.519 to His disciples. 00:05:17.399 --> 00:05:18.560 We had the upper room 00:05:18.560 --> 00:05:22.299 where He performed the Last Supper 00:05:22.299 --> 00:05:24.739 and invited His disciples to do this 00:05:24.739 --> 00:05:26.179 on a regular basis in the future. 00:05:26.399 --> 00:05:29.159 He spoke to Judas and His betrayal 00:05:29.159 --> 00:05:30.819 and of Judas and His betrayal. 00:05:31.419 --> 00:05:32.599 He then ministers, 00:05:32.819 --> 00:05:34.299 and what we're dealing with this morning 00:05:34.299 --> 00:05:37.759 is a portion of the ministry of Christ 00:05:37.759 --> 00:05:39.319 to His disciples. 00:05:40.779 --> 00:05:43.079 Jesus knows that He's going to die on the cross 00:05:43.079 --> 00:05:44.739 in hours. 00:05:45.519 --> 00:05:47.620 He knows that He is going to be betrayed 00:05:47.620 --> 00:05:49.859 by one of His disciples. 00:05:50.620 --> 00:05:52.979 He knows that He is going to suffer 00:05:52.979 --> 00:05:55.120 separation from the Father, 00:05:55.120 --> 00:05:57.920 which is something that in all of eternity past 00:05:57.920 --> 00:05:59.540 had never taken place, 00:05:59.759 --> 00:06:02.500 and it would be supremely significant 00:06:02.500 --> 00:06:04.120 in the life of Christ. 00:06:06.840 --> 00:06:09.120 And yet the thing that I find so stunning 00:06:09.120 --> 00:06:11.500 is that in the face of what He knew was coming, 00:06:13.120 --> 00:06:15.420 His affection and His interest 00:06:15.420 --> 00:06:16.819 is in His disciples. 00:06:16.819 --> 00:06:22.899 And what we find in John chapter 14, 00:06:23.040 --> 00:06:24.500 remember back there in verse 1, 00:06:24.560 --> 00:06:24.839 it says, 00:06:25.339 --> 00:06:27.719 let not your heart be troubled. 00:06:29.159 --> 00:06:32.420 How many of you can identify with being troubled? 00:06:32.420 --> 00:06:36.840 I mean, all you have to do 00:06:36.840 --> 00:06:38.439 is wake up in the morning 00:06:38.439 --> 00:06:42.640 and realize that we live in a fallen, 00:06:43.259 --> 00:06:44.800 broken world. 00:06:45.220 --> 00:06:47.960 And the biggest problems that we have 00:06:47.960 --> 00:06:51.980 really don't come to us through the media, 00:06:52.259 --> 00:06:54.139 but we look at them in the mirror 00:06:54.139 --> 00:06:56.000 on a day-to-day basis, do we not? 00:06:57.300 --> 00:06:58.540 Was it Pogo that said, 00:06:58.540 --> matter is 00:07:06.600 --> 00:07:09.100 is that the biggest problem I have is me. 00:07:10.300 --> 00:07:11.480 And so here we are 00:07:11.480 --> 00:07:13.680 looking at the world that we live in, 00:07:13.860 --> 00:07:15.900 recognizing the challenges in our life, 00:07:16.120 --> 00:07:18.160 and the words that Jesus spoke 00:07:18.160 --> 00:07:19.320 to His disciples 00:07:19.320 --> 00:07:21.680 are supremely significant to us 00:07:21.680 --> 00:07:23.700 when we really get our hands around 00:07:23.699 --> 00:07:26.420 just how challenging the day is. 00:07:28.839 --> 00:07:29.899 The first part, 00:07:30.039 --> 00:07:31.659 Jesus reminded the disciples, 00:07:31.819 --> 00:07:32.279 He says, listen, 00:07:32.699 --> 00:07:34.639 I want you to know how the story ends. 00:07:34.639 --> 00:07:36.740 And it's good to remind ourselves 00:07:36.740 --> 00:07:38.519 periodically of the fact 00:07:38.519 --> 00:07:40.159 that what's going on today 00:07:40.159 --> 00:07:42.699 is not the end of the story. 00:07:43.480 --> 00:07:44.899 We look forward to the day 00:07:44.899 --> 00:07:46.480 that we are going to see 00:07:46.480 --> 00:07:47.699 the Lord Jesus Christ, 00:07:47.939 --> 00:07:49.519 and as it says in the Scriptures 00:07:49.519 --> 00:07:51.060 at numerous different occasions, 00:07:51.300 --> 00:07:52.759 we'll be satisfied with that. 00:07:53.699 --> 00:07:55.899 And so not only do we find 00:07:55.899 --> 00:07:56.659 this encouragement 00:07:56.659 --> 00:07:58.500 as to how the story ends, 00:07:58.539 --> 00:07:59.379 but another thing 00:07:59.379 --> 00:08:02.599 that Jesus brings to His disciples 00:08:02.599 --> 00:08:05.139 is this very, very precious truth 00:08:05.139 --> 00:08:07.099 that in the midst of our adversity 00:08:07.099 --> 00:08:08.159 and our difficulties, 00:08:08.459 --> 00:08:10.579 the most important thing for us to do 00:08:10.579 --> 00:08:12.339 is to look on Jesus 00:08:12.339 --> that, 00:08:30.019 --> 00:08:32.919 and as the individual was sharing with me 00:08:32.919 --> 00:08:33.879 some of the challenges 00:08:33.879 --> 00:08:35.960 that are being faced, 00:08:36.360 --> 00:08:38.100 I encouraged the individual, 00:08:38.200 --> 00:08:38.779 hey, say, listen, 00:08:39.179 --> 00:08:40.819 fix your eyes on Jesus 00:08:40.819 --> 00:08:45.279 because He is the one
