00:04:39.639 Even when times are hard. 00:04:39.879 --> 00:04:42.639 And it looks at all those around us that we're losing. 00:04:43.679 --> 00:04:46.419 So how can we sing joyfully to the Lord in the Bible which was the first verse I learnt as a child. 00:06:32.259 --> 00:06:35.240 And it's not very imaginative but it was John 3, 16. 00:06:35.879 --> 00:06:39.740 Which is probably the most famous verse in the Bible. 00:06:40.259 --> 00:06:43.139 And I like to keep things quite simple so it's still my favourite one. 00:06:43.139 --> 00:06:45.959 And for me this summarises the whole gospel promise. 00:06:46.479 --> 00:06:50.959 So it's for God so loves the world that he gave his one and only son. 00:06:51.500 --> 00:06:56.019 That whoever believes in him shall not perish but have 00:10:37.919 And this is why worship here is grounded in truth rather than emotion. 00:10:37.919 --> 00:10:41.959 We don't sing joyfully to the Lord just because we feel like it. 00:10:42.459 --> magnificence of these verses. 00:12:04.039 --> 00:12:08.039 What encouraging verses are these for anxious humankind? 00:12:08.759 --> 00:12:11.620 The plans of the Lord stand firm forever. 00:12:14.019 --> 00:12:16.039 Now we all love to make plans, don't we? 00:12:16.399 --> 00:12:23.279 Whether that be plans for our career, where we're going to live or just what we're going to do at the weekend. 00:12:24.199 --> 00:12:26.339 And sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't. 00:12:27.019 --> 00:12:28.939 Sometimes they work out better than we expected. 00:12:29.360 --> mother for refusing to abort a baby that had a cleft lip but was otherwise healthy. 00:13:07.559 --> 00:13:13.559 As we see people on our doorstep unable to afford food or even somewhere to live. 00:13:14.599 --> 00:13:19.739 And as we hear about our brothers and sisters in places like North Korea being tortured and killed for their belief. 00:13:21.199 --> 00:13:23.419 It is hard to remember that God is in charge. 00:13:23.419 --> 00:13:27.199 But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever. 00:13:27.979 --> 00:13:31.979 God is in control and we know that one day Jesus will come back. --> 00:14:50.599 And now whether these decisions are right or wrong is not for us to decide here. 00:14:51.239 --> 00:14:57.239 But what we do know is that that isn't going to save anyone from the UK ultimately death will get us all in the end. 00:15:07.600 --> 00:15:16.820 Even the mighty USA who spend over 900 billion dollars per year on their armed forces cannot prevent even one of its citizens this psalm lived out by two very close friends of mine. 00:16:46.019 --> 00:16:52.000 They are both very competent people and from a worldly sense had lots going for them. 00:16:52.639 --> 00:16:55.879 They are both well educated and from nice homes. 00:16:56.939 --> 00:16:59.860 And shortly after I met them, the man and the couple, 00:17:00.019 --> 00:17:03.980 he was a trainee pastor at a very large church in central London. 00:17:04.900 --> 00:17:08.119 They had one child, a boy who was two, 00:17:08.680 --> 00:17:10.940 and they were expecting their second child. 00:17:10.940 --> 00:17:16.860 I'm sure they were making plans for how life would be like as a family of four for them. 00:17:17.519 --> 00:17:20.799 It would have been easy for them to put their hope in these things. 00:17:20.799 --> 00:17:28.940 But then they went along to the 20-week scan and discovered that their unborn baby's heart had not developed properly. 00:17:29.700 --> 00:17:33.539 He only had
