worshipping the Baal of Peor, 00:06:52.779 --> 00:06:55.079 and the Lord's anger burned against them. 00:06:55.079 --> 00:07:00.740 And what you see there is that their hunger for sex led them into worshipping other gods, 00:07:00.839 --> 00:07:05.099 and God's anger was so great that he killed 24,000 people that day. 00:07:07.019 --> 00:07:10.079 You come into the New Testament again in Acts chapter 15. 00:07:10.199 --> 00:07:17.879 One of the big disputes in the early church was people are coming to Christ from a non-Jewish background. 00:07:18.259 --> 00:07:20.560 They're coming out from the Gentile world. 00:07:20.560 --> 00:07:26.240 They've got no history in terms of the scriptures and what God's people's practices were. 00:07:27.519 --> 00:07:29.660 And the big question of the day was, 00:07:29.860 --> 00:07:35.500 do these people need to get circumcised to show that they're a true blue member of the people of God? 00:07:36.939 --> 00:07:40.199 And the matter is taken to the apostles in Acts 15. 00:07:40.340 --> 00:07:43.779 Paul and Barnabas come from the church outside of Jerusalem, 00:07:44.180 --> 00:07:48.779 and they tell them the delightful news about people from many nations coming to Christ. 00:07:48.779 --> 00:07:51.679 And they say, what do we do about this issue? 00:07:51.739 --> 00:07:55.199 We don't think they need to be circumcised to show that they're a real Christian. 00:07:56.639 --> 00:07:58.479 And the apostles agreed with them. 00:07:59.139 --> 00:08:01.199 And they said to them, don't worry about the circumcision, 00:08:01.339 --> was an insight I wouldn't have seen in my own culture. 00:09:06.600 --> 00:09:10.340 1 Corinthians 8, and have your Bibles open there now, 00:09:11.159 --> 00:09:13.399 raises exactly that issue.
