have no idea. 00:00:38.899 --> 00:00:40.979 That wasn't my upbringing. 00:00:43.159 --> 00:00:49.920 But as a young Christian, I started to realize that Jesus regularly alludes to 00:00:49.920 --> 00:00:55.679 or quotes or mentions the Old Testament. 00:00:55.679 --> 00:01:00.439 As many as 4,000 times. 00:01:02.119 --> 00:01:04.000 I remember reading the verse, 00:01:04.000 --> 00:01:11.280 but my father's house is a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers. 00:01:11.879 --> 00:01:18.680 And it dawned on me that Jesus was quoting from Jeremiah chapter 7, verse 11. 00:01:20.039 --> 00:01:23.760 I was, in some ways I should have known that, but I was shocked. 00:01:23.760 --> 00:01:31.260 I thought to myself, I am reading the same verse that Jesus read at one time. 00:01:32.020 --> 00:01:37.180 And then I started to think to myself, what did he feel? 00:01:37.840 --> 00:01:39.420 How old was he? 00:01:39.420 --> 00:01:42.239 What was he doing before? 00:01:43.060 --> 00:01:45.000 How did that verse impress him? 00:01:45.540 --> 00:01:50.260 Why does he quote it, but he doesn't quote from the other 50 chapters in Jeremiah? 00:01:51.019 --> 00:01:56.760 And I found myself really fascinating by the fact that Jesus knows the Old Testament 00:01:56.760 --> 00:01:59.299 and refers to it regularly. 00:01:59.299 --> 00:02:03.899 Well, this morning, we're going to do something similar to that. 00:02:04.579 --> 00:02:07.519 We are going to look at the sign of Jonah. 00:02:08.180 --> 00:02:10.240 But we're not from the Old Testament. 00:02:10.639 --> 00:02:16.500 We're going to ask ourselves, when Jesus read the book of Jonah, what did he get out of it? 00:02:17.019 --> 00:02:18.680 I know what I get out of it. 00:02:18.680 --> 00:02:26.340 I know what my students get out of it, because I give it a passage on a test and they all do badly. 00:02:26.900 --> 00:02:30.460 So they don't get much out of it, but I get a lot more 00:02:40.159 --> 00:02:40.939 Or what? 00:02:41.780 --> 00:02:46.680 So we're going to look at the sign of Jonah in the Gospels. 00:02:46.680 --> 00:02:51.319 You are familiar with the sign of Jonah
