don't know how to relate to a holy God. 00:02:12.240 --> 00:02:15.680 And chapter 19 begins that process of teaching them that, 00:02:15.680 --> 00:02:18.680 preparing a people to live holy lives to be the promises from God, 00:06:51.160 --> 00:06:53.360 preparation for God, 00:06:53.500 --> 00:06:55.199 and the presence of God. 00:06:55.720 --> 00:06:58.180 So let's look at the promises from God first. 00:06:59.280 --> 00:07:00.180 I'm going to flip back. 00:07:00.220 --> 00:07:01.000 You won't have to, 00:07:01.220 --> 00:07:02.879 just to make it quicker. 00:07:03.139 --> 00:07:06.240 I'm going to jump back to Exodus chapter 3, verse 1. 00:07:06.240 --> 00:07:11.280 Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, 00:07:11.620 --> 00:07:12.579 the priest of Midian, 00:07:12.620 --> 00:07:15.019 and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness 00:07:15.019 --> 00:07:18.519 and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 00:07:19.220 --> 00:07:21.379 And as we skip a few verses down, 00:07:21.460 --> 00:07:25.620 this is where God is meeting Moses in the burning bush. 00:07:25.620 --> 00:07:32.160 And God has called him to Pharaoh, 00:07:32.300 --> 00:07:32.899 and Moses said, 00:07:33.759 --> 00:07:35.420 Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh 00:07:35.420 --> 00:07:36.920 and bring the children of Egypt, 00:07:37.319 --> 00:07:39.180 the children out of Egypt? 00:07:40.399 --> 00:07:41.199 He said, 00:07:41.939 --> 00:07:43.199 But I will be with you, 00:07:43.259 --> 00:07:43.959 this is God, 00:07:44.060 --> 00:07:45.740 and this shall be a sign for you 00:07:45.740 --> 00:07:47.199 that I have sent you. 00:07:47.500 --> 00:07:50.340 When you have brought the people out of Egypt, 00:07:50.579 --> 00:07:53.500 you shall serve God on this mountain. 00:07:53.500 --> 00:07:57.100 So we find in chapter 19 at the very beginning, 00:07:57.600 --> 00:07:59.240 they are at this mountain. 00:08:00.259 --> 00:08:01.639 This reminds us, 00:08:01.699 --> 00:08:03.019 it reminds the people of Israel 00:08:03.019 --> 00:08:04.620 that what God promises, 00:08:05.220 --> 00:08:06.040 God completes. 00:08:07.680 --> 00:08:12.000 It is here where God is preparing for himself a people, 00:08:12.680 --> 00:08:15.259 a people to worship and commune with him, 00:08:16.060 --> 00:08:18.259 preparing them for the covenants and the laws 00:08:18.259 --> 00:08:19.779 that he was going to give to them, 00:08:19.779 --> 00:08:23.679 preparing a people to live holy lives 00:08:23.679 --> 00:08:26.059 in the presence of a holy God. 00:08:28.459 --> 00:08:30.559 As the people arrive to the mountain, 00:08:30.959 --> 00:08:32.139 they set up camp. 00:08:32.500 --> 00:08:33.959 And you'll notice in verse 3 00:08:33.959 --> 00:08:36.500 that Moses goes up to the mountain 00:08:36.500 --> 00:08:37.679 to hear from God. 00:08:38.980 --> 00:08:41.319 I think it's interesting for us to pause there 00:08:41.319 --> 00:08:43.019 and think about that for a moment 00:08:43.019 --> 00:08:45.579 because what do we commonly do 00:08:45.579 --> 00:08:48.299 when we get to a new place in our life? 00:08:48.620 --> 00:08:50.799 A place that God has led us. 00:08:52.159 --> 00:08:53.019 A new job, 00:08:53.100 --> 00:08:54.279 a new place of residence, 00:08:54.579 --> 00:08:56.799 maybe a new program of study 00:08:56.799 --> 00:08:58.860 that you were accepted into. 00:09:00.000 --> 00:09:01.679 Do we pause and listen 00:09:01.679 --> 00:09:03.860 to what the Lord has for us to hear 00:09:03.860 --> 00:09:05.460 and where he's moving next? 00:09:05.699 --> 00:09:08.519 Or I think our default mindset 00:09:08.519 --> 00:09:09.779 is to dig in, 00:09:09.860 --> 00:09:10.340 get busy, 00:09:10.340 --> 00:09:12.799 and what are my plans going forward? 00:09:13.019 --> 00:09:18.299 Moses gives us a good example here 00:09:18.299 --> 00:09:20.519 because he doesn't set up his tent. 00:09:20.699 --> 00:09:22.299 He doesn't make sure his hammock 00:09:22.299 --> 00:09:23.679 is facing the right direction 00:09:23.679 --> 00:09:26.179 or see how social media is doing, 00:09:26.299 --> 00:09:28.819 but he goes up to hear from God. 00:09:29.960 --> 00:09:31.079 And as he seeks God, 00:09:31.340 --> 00:09:33.439 God has a message for the people. 00:09:34.779 --> 00:09:37.079 First, God wants to remind the people 00:09:37.079 --> 00:09:38.460 of who they are. 00:09:39.100 --> 00:09:39.960 It says, 00:09:40.299 --> 00:09:42.639 Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob,
