00:03:44.520 many times, many ways God had spoken to the fathers by the prophets, 00:03:44.520 --> 00:03:47.560 but now He's spoken by His Son. 00:03:48.740 --> 00:03:53.879 And we looked at that perfect final message of God in His Son. 00:03:53.879 --> 00:03:59.319 But it kind of leaves us with some questions as to what qualifies Jesus to be the perfect messenger from God? 00:04:00.139 --> 00:07:10.019 --> 00:07:11.920 Have you come to torment us before the time? 00:07:13.740 --> 00:07:18.459 So, you see, that even the devils have a better Christology than a lot of Christians. 00:08:04.300 So, if we look back at our context, 00:08:05.060 --> 00:08:11.520 remember this letter was written to a people facing persecution and pressure from two sides. 00:08:12.040 --> 00:08:16.259 On the one side, they had the world and the Roman culture around them 00:08:16.259 --> 00:08:20.459 completely rejecting them as some sort of cult. 00:08:21.639 --> 00:08:25.759 The Jews were protected because there was an ancient religion. 00:08:26.240 --> 00:08:28.360 But this Christianity was seen as an offshoot. 00:08:29.159 --> 00:08:32.580 And actually, many of the Christians at the time had their possessions taken, 00:08:32.980 --> 00:08:34.379 their livelihoods destroyed, 00:08:34.700 --> 00:08:35.799 some were put into prison, 00:08:35.799 --> 00:08:41.939 and those that were left were relegated to the filthiest, poorest quarters of Rome. 00:08:43.859 --> 00:08:47.199 This is actually where when Rome burned, it burned the hottest 00:08:47.199 --> 00:08:49.199 because they were cramped, they were filthy. 00:08:50.079 --> 00:08:52.539 They were subjected to that because of their faith. 00:08:53.079 --> 00:08:57.240 We actually see those conditions being represented here at the end of Hebrews 00:08:57.240 --> 00:08:58.819 when he talks to these Christians. 00:08:58.820 --> 00:09:05.120 But also, they had the persecution of the religious groups, 00:09:06.240 --> 00:09:10.300 of their own brothers in many cases in the Hebrews and in the Jews, 00:09:11.400 --> 00:09:11.680 saying, 00:09:12.000 --> 00:09:14.480 because you follow Christ, 00:09:14.920 --> 00:09:16.120 you're a heretic. 00:09:17.320 --> 00:09:18.760 You're blaspheming God. 00:09:19.760 --> 00:09:21.120 You have no place here. 00:09:21.120 --> 00:09:28.740 So the pressure for them was to
