find that. 00:00:57.719 --> 00:01:03.060 One of the things that we're going to be talking about today is the consequences of being a Christian. 00:01:03.659 --> 00:01:10.579 Now, for many people in our culture, as soon as you hear this, that there's consequences to being a Christian, we immediately think of one thing, sex. 00:01:10.579 --> 00:01:18.840 But if you just talk to a group of people in a coffee shop or just anybody, you just went out and said, you know, what do you think the main consequences of being a Christian are? 00:01:19.319 --> 00:01:22.700 And probably the very first thing they'd say, well, something to do with sex. 00:01:22.700 --> 00:01:29.900 And probably for most people, they would think that Christians are stupid about it and wrong and mean and hateful and a few other things. 00:01:29.980 --> 00:01:34.760 And it depends on how polite or rude they would be with you in terms of how much they'd express it. 00:01:34.780 --> 00:01:36.500 But that would be going on in their mind. 00:01:36.500 --> 00:01:41.700 One of the things that we're going to be looking at today is... 00:01:41.700 --> 00:01:45.180 So just so you know, here's what's happened. Rome. 00:01:53.620 --> 00:01:57.819 And he's writing it to the second largest city in the Roman Empire, to the churches which are there. 00:01:57.879 --> 00:01:59.240 And he's writing it around the year 60. 00:01:59.340 --> 00:02:00.400 So that's a long time ago. 00:02:00.400 --> 00:02:05.540 And what he's done is for the first three chapters, because, of course, he didn't write the book in chapters. 00:02:05.600 --> 00:02:06.580 It was just a letter, right? 00:02:06.880 --> 00:02:10.980 But the first half of the book, basically, he explains the gospel. 00:02:11.180 --> 00:02:14.800 He explains this good news that Jesus came and he died on the cross. 00:02:15.180 --> 00:02:19.060 And as a result of him dying on the cross, if you put your faith and trust in Jesus, 00:02:19.719 --> earlier today at a church service in Rwanda put their faith in Jesus, 00:02:54.520 --> 00:03:01.219 if somebody even earlier on the day today in Beijing put their faith and trust in Jesus, 00:03:01.380 --> 00:03:07.340 if somebody put their faith and trust in Manhattan, if somebody in London, England, and somebody in Ottawa, 00:03:07.560 --> 00:03:10.860 every single one of us enter 00:03:23.099 And it's the gospel, Jesus' death upon the cross and his resurrection, it's for everybody. 00:03:23.659 --> 00:03:29.479 And that when we put our faith and trust in Jesus, one of the things to understand that what happened at a spiritual level 00:03:29.479 --> 00:03:37.479 is that even though Jesus died in history about 20, 27 years before Paul wrote this letter, 00:03:37.479 --> 00:03:42.739 even though Jesus died in history in one particular spot, in one particular location, 00:03:42.739 --> 00:03:49.379 because of who he is, because he is the son of God who took on human flesh and became fully human while remaining God, 00:03:49.739 --> 00:03:56.060 when he died in that one time, in that one place in history, it was also something, in a sense, outside of time. 00:03:56.139 --> 00:04:00.659 It was something eternal, which means that whether it's in the fourth century or today, 00:04:00.759 --> 00:04:07.000 when you put your faith and trust in Jesus, one of the things to understand is that it's as if Jesus himself comes to you, 00:04:07.000 --> 00:04:13.740 and he puts his arms around you and he unites himself to you and you become united to him. --> 00:05:54.159 God the Father himself indwells you and makes you alive. 00:05:54.259 --> 00:05:56.259 In a sense, he makes you a new type of human. 00:05:56.860 --> 00:05:59.939 Not a new type of described, Paul describes that there's not just an individual indwelling, 00:06:24.899 --> 00:06:31.599 but that in this profound sense of mystery, God is making a temple that he dwells in. who becomes a Christian becomes a living stone 00:06:42.120 --> 00:06:47.019 that God is using to build this temple that he dwells in. 00:06:47.019 --> 00:06:53.060 And this temple that he dwells in 00:07:05.180 --> 00:07:12.340 There's just this one temple that he dwells in here on earth. 00:07:13.340 --> 00:07:20.000 And that is made up of this remarkable thing of the Irish in the fifth century yourself from different sources of wisdom. 00:08:55.059 --> 00:09:01.519 One of the things which is completely different about the Christian way than all other way is that it begins with redemption. the Exodus and the Deuteronomy version, both of them begin. 00:09:20.639 --> 00:09:25.000 I am the Lord who redeemed you out of the bondage and slavery. 00:09:26.179 --> 00:09:27.179 Therefore, this. 00:09:28.039 --> 00:09:29.360 First, there's redemption. 00:09:30.319 --> 00:09:31.980 And then there's how you shall live. 00:09:32.580 --> 00:09:33.379 And it's the same here. 00:09:33.500 --> 00:09:39.939 So Paul is for three chapters explained that you're saved by grace alone, by God's grace alone, 00:09:40.139 --> 00:09:47.039 through faith alone, in Christ alone, as God's word has told And if God has made you right in such a way, how is it going to be that you're going to now start to live? 00:09:54.120 --> 00:09:55.879 And now Paul starts to unfold it. 00:09:56.680 --> 00:09:58.500 time again, 00:30:49.659 --> 00:30:54.680 we see the writer bearing witness that Jesus had risen from the dead. 00:30:55.159 --> 00:30:59.159 Paul is an eyewitness and recording other eyewitnesses.
