Page 610. 00:01:53.299 --> 00:01:58.600 Alright, so Psalm 119 verse 160. 00:01:58.600 --> 00:02:04.299 It says here, the sum of your Word is truth, 00:02:04.299 --> 00:02:09.500 and every one of your righteous rules endures forever. 00:02:09.500 --> 00:02:12.300 That word truth comes up, right? 00:02:12.300 --> 00:02:15.000 The sum of your Word is truth. 00:02:15.000 --> 00:02:19.599 It's just when you're reading it on the surface, it's very beautiful language, right? 00:02:19.599 --> 00:02:23.300 The entirety of God's Word is truth. 00:02:23.300 --> 00:02:27.099 So the question, the first question that's going to be on your sheet is, 00:02:27.099 --> 00:02:29.599 what does the Psalmist mean? 00:02:29.599 --> 00:02:36.099 When he is saying, the sum of your Word is truth. 00:02:36.099 --> 00:02:42.000 So go ahead and take a moment and write down your thoughts. 00:02:42.000 --> 00:02:52.599 When I read a verse like that, it's very comforting to know that all of God's Word is truth, right? 00:02:52.599 --> 00:02:58.699 It's beautiful language whenever we read Psalms, whenever we read Proverbs, wisdom literature, 00:02:58.699 --> 00:03:02.500 the biblical poetry. 00:03:02.500 --> 00:03:07.699 And what's interesting, I'm curious, in the translations that you are using, 00:03:07.699 --> 00:03:10.199 which one are you using? 00:03:10.199 --> 00:03:12.199 So this is going to be really good. 00:03:12.199 --> 00:03:18.399 And when researching and studying this specific passage, 00:03:18.399 --> 00:03:23.899 you'll find there's a lot of different variations for the translation of this. 00:03:23.899 --> 00:03:27.699 New International Version says, all your words are true. 00:03:27.699 --> 00:03:30.699 At least that's what I'm thinking. 00:03:30.699 --> 00:03:36.099 New Living Translation, the very essence of your words are true. 00:03:36.099 --> 00:03:40.000 English Standard, the sum of your Word is true. 00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:44.500 The KJV is, Thy Word is true from the beginning. 00:03:44.500 --> 00:03:48.699 And the New King James is the entirety of your Word is truth. 00:03:48.699 --> 00:03:51.300 And all of these are really good statements. 00:03:51.300 --> 00:03:56.400 It's like, well, which one is it and why is there such a difference in it? 00:03:56.400 --> 00:04:07.900 Well, what's very interesting is the Word that is being used when we're looking at the translation of the sum of your Word. 00:04:07.900 --> 00:04:14.400 There are different ways that truth, right, the sum can mean beginning. 00:04:14.400 --> 00:04:25.300 It can, so it can mean, and it'll be on your notes here, time, totality, and priority. 00:04:25.300 --> 00:04:28.600 And what's interesting is in the Hebrew, it can mean either of those. 00:04:28.600 --> 00:04:32.300 That's why there's a, I don't want to use the word discrepancy, 00:04:32.300 --> 00:04:36.399 but there's a variation in the translation of that word. 00:04:36.399 --> 00:04:42.000 So when you're looking at this verse, the sum of your Word or all of your words, 00:04:42.000 --> 00:04:50.199 the essence of your words from the beginning, it all comes back to that one word. 00:04:50.199 --> 00:04:52.299 And I'm like, that's, that's very interesting. 00:04:52.299 --> 00:04:59.299 So you're saying that this verse, we're talking about the sum, right? 00:04:59.299 --> 00:05:02.399 Or all of the word, it couldn't mean time. 00:05:02.399 --> 00:05:11.000 So from the beginning can also mean the entirety of the Bible, and it can also mean from the top, meaning from the beginning. 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:18.799 So what's interesting on this, then you'll notice on your notes why there's such a big presence there, 00:05:18.799 --> 00:05:26.799 is that biblically, it can mean all three of those. 00:05:26.800 --> 00:05:36.199 The word of God is timeless, right? And when we talk about Jesus Christ being the word existing before the creation, 00:05:36.199 --> 00:05:45.000 that can mean, and that can be one way of reading that, that specific verse that from the beginning, 00:05:45.000 --> 00:05:46.199 well, what do you mean from the beginning? 00:05:46.199 --> 00:05:48.400 Do you mean from the beginning of time? 00:05:48.400 --> 00:05:54.900 Or do you mean from the beginning as in Genesis or Job, if you're considering Job as the oldest one? 00:05:54.900 --> 00:05:56.400 So which one is it? 00:05:56.399 --> 00:05:58.000 It can mean either of those. 00:05:58.000 --> 00:06:01.799 And I found that that was very beautiful that that's in there. 00:06:01.799 --> 00:06:08.199 So it says, I put in here, the word of God is timeless. 00:06:08.199 --> 00:06:11.199 God's word from the beginning is true. 00:06:11.199 --> 00:06:14.699 In the beginning was the word. 00:06:14.699 --> 00:06:20.500 Well, we can see that in that verse, it very well can mean that, right? 00:06:20.500 --> 00:06:28.199 Beginning of time, also the beginning of the Old Testament, if you will. 00:06:28.199 --> 00:06:34.399 So let's turn to John real quick here, because this is interesting. 00:06:34.399 --> 00:06:38.699 I'm thinking, well, you see such a variety. 00:06:38.699 --> 00:06:42.899 It's because the translators are trying to figure out which one are they using. 00:06:42.899 --> 00:06:45.199 Are we talking from the beginning of time? 00:06:45.199 --> 00:06:48.000 Are we talking from all of Scripture? 00:06:48.000 --> 00:06:59.399 Are we talking priority is when I mean the top of Scripture, it means the importance of Scripture. 00:06:59.399 --> 00:07:02.699 So saying all of your word is important, right? 00:07:02.699 --> 00:07:04.899 The importance of the word is truth. 00:07:04.899 --> 00:07:07.399 I'm like, that's interesting. 00:07:07.399 --> 00:07:08.899 But yeah, let's go to that first one. 00:07:08.899 --> 00:07:12.199 John, all right. 00:07:12.199 --> 00:07:17.899 So we know this one in the beginning was the word and the word was with God. 00:07:17.899 --> 00:07:20.199 And the word was God. 00:07:20.199 --> 00:07:22.899 He was in the beginning with God. 00:07:22.899 --> 00:07:32.199 All things were made through Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. 00:07:32.199 --> 00:07:35.599 I always love turning to that because there's so much to that, right? 00:07:35.599 --> 00:07:38.199 There's so much to those two verses. 00:07:38.199 --> 00:07:40.000 So in the beginning was the word. 00:07:40.000 --> 00:07:40.500 Okay. 00:07:40.500 --> 00:07:46.000 So we're looking at the Psalmist saying that the from the beginning, 00:07:46.000 --> 00:07:49.899 well, from the beginning of time can be a way we read that. 00:07:49.899 --> 00:07:50.199 Okay. 00:07:50.199 --> 00:07:56.600 So that's one thing we can see in Scripture that that holds up to be true. 00:07:56.600 --> 00:08:03.199 Then we have Psalm 90 verse two. 00:08:03.199 --> 00:08:09.399 So we'll start from verse one, Psalm 90 verse one. 00:08:09.399 --> 00:08:15.800 Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations before the mountains were brought 00:08:15.800 --> 00:08:23.000 forth or ever you had formed the earth and the world from everlasting to everlasting. 00:08:23.000 --> 00:08:26.000 You are God. 00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:28.900 So again, beautiful poetic language here, right? 00:08:28.900 --> 00:08:35.799 So here we're talking about you formed the earth and the world from everlasting to everlasting. 00:08:35.799 --> 00:08:39.299 And it ties in with the John one passage, right? 00:08:39.299 --> 00:08:45.100 That we know that God had existed before the creation of the world and then also with having Christ 00:08:45.100 --> 00:08:48.300 existing as the word with him. 00:08:48.300 --> 00:08:48.800 Right. 00:08:48.800 --> 00:08:55.800 And of course, there's other verses when we were going over Proverbs or when we were looking at Christ's existence before the creation. 00:08:55.800 --> 00:08:59.800 So just looking at passages like this will help us seeing that. 00:08:59.800 --> 00:09:00.899 Okay. 00:09:00.899 --> 00:09:04.399 This Psalm 119, right? 00:09:04.399 --> 00:09:08.300 From the beginning, like the King James is saying, 00:09:08.300 --> 00:09:13.300 thy word is true from the beginning of time, so to speak, from the beginning. 00:09:13.299 --> 00:09:16.699 It can mean from the beginning of time. 00:09:16.699 --> 00:09:17.899 All right. 00:09:17.899 --> 00:09:19.399 So let's go to our question here. 00:09:19.399 --> 00:09:21.899 Let's think about this. 00:09:21.899 --> 00:09:26.299 I put knowing that the word of God stands the test of time. 00:09:26.299 --> 00:09:29.199 How does that help us in today's world? 00:09:29.199 --> 00:09:33.799 I want you to think about this before you answer that question. 00:09:33.799 --> 00:09:42.899 The word existing before the creation of the world and then the word existing thousands of years, 00:09:42.899 --> 00:09:49.699 being able to last as long as it has. 00:09:49.699 --> 00:09:51.299 That's remarkable. 00:09:51.299 --> 00:10:04.500 You know, when you think of civilizations that have come and gone, people who have lived and died and so much time that is passed by, but yet God's word is remaining. 00:10:04.500 --> 00:10:06.399 It's just a very powerful thing. 00:10:06.399 --> 00:10:11.100 So when we're looking at from the beginning, right? 00:10:11.100 --> 00:10:14.399 Your word is true from the beginning. 00:10:14.399 --> 00:10:21.100 Not only is it truth from the foundation of the world, but from the beginning it is timeless. 00:10:21.100 --> 00:10:29.800 It will continue to last just as the Psalm is saying from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. 00:10:29.800 --> 00:10:34.500 Well, God existing outside of space and time. 00:10:34.500 --> 00:10:37.399 Well, he puts in his word. 00:10:37.399 --> 00:10:39.600 That is going to last. 00:10:39.600 --> 00:10:43.200 He's seen to it that that will be that will last. 00:10:43.200 --> 00:10:47.800 So just kind of wanting to add to that, but feel free to answer this question. 00:10:47.800 --> 00:10:51.000 Knowing that the word of God stands the test of time. 00:10:51.000 --> 00:10:55.100 How does that help us in today's world? 00:10:55.100 --> 00:11:03.300 Yeah, it's, you know, the same the same God that spoke into motion, the universe, right? 00:11:03.299 --> 00:11:09.899 How we've talked about God upholding the universe, he is going to uphold his word. 00:11:09.899 --> 00:11:17.500 And when we find knowledge, saving knowledge of who Christ is, right? 00:11:17.500 --> 00:11:21.799 Knowing that he is the Son of God, that he's the savior of the world. 00:11:21.799 --> 00:11:28.099 That's kind of like the, I think of living, the living water, like it's a constant stream. 00:11:28.099 --> 00:11:33.199 And it's like, are you ready to drink this water, so to speak? 00:11:33.200 --> 00:11:40.800 Knowing that somehow God's word has lasted as long as it has. 00:11:40.800 --> 00:11:49.100 And the fact that we have Bibles today, that helps us. 00:11:49.100 --> 00:11:51.600 Or at least it should help us in our faith. 00:11:51.600 --> 00:12:01.600 Even when people have tried to use the Bible for evil intent, God hides away the secrets, if you will, the depths of the word. 00:12:01.600 --> 00:12:09.000 And I think I mentioned that last Sunday, I realized I sometimes say controversial things, but 00:12:09.000 --> 00:12:13.500 there have been people who have talked so much about artificial intelligence. 00:12:13.500 --> 00:12:21.500 Oh, you can go and use AI, it will take over the world and it will get everyone out of a job. 00:12:21.500 --> 00:12:27.600 And that may be true, maybe it may be not, but 00:12:27.600 --> 00:12:42.700 when you really think about it, the depths of scripture, the wisdom, the knowledge of scripture is for mankind, so to speak. 00:12:42.700 --> 00:12:47.100 It is meant for its God's revelation to people, right? 00:12:47.100 --> 00:12:50.600 So think about this. 00:12:50.600 --> 00:13:06.899 Machine, as powerful as it can be, as wonderful as machines can be with our cars and our computers, it will never have a soul. 00:13:06.899 --> 00:13:13.899 Therefore, it cannot find what we can find in scripture. 00:13:13.899 --> 00:13:23.199 It has information and it comes to conclusions, but it does not have emotions, does not have a beating heart. 00:13:23.199 --> 00:13:28.899 And even if it had those things, the end of the day, it still will not have a soul. 00:13:28.899 --> 00:13:39.199 And so because it does not have a soul, when we talk about God's saving grace or someone's soul being saved, 00:13:39.200 --> 00:13:44.700 that is explicitly, that is intentionally made for people. 00:13:44.700 --> 00:13:57.700 And when you think of that, it's like, oh, well then we don't have to worry about artificial, I mean, I guess for the job market, sure, I guess for changes in culture, sure, but 00:13:57.700 --> 00:14:06.200 when people are saying, oh, well, it's going to know more of the Bible than you, well, it might be able to regurgitate memory passages. 00:14:06.200 --> 00:14:16.200 But memorizing passages is great, but that's different than I'm going to read the Bible and I'm going to let God speak to me. 00:14:16.200 --> 00:14:26.200 Does that make sense? And I realized when I was, because I listened to the sermon just kind of how far off the script did I go today. 00:14:26.200 --> 00:14:38.200 I realized when I said that I'm like, it's true though, you know, if that should bring us comfort that no matter how powerful these machines are, 00:14:38.200 --> 00:14:44.200 even if they did take over the world, let's say that happens, let's entertain that idea. 00:14:44.200 --> 00:14:51.200 Well, God will hide away His word as He has before in those kind of times. 00:14:51.200 --> 00:15:01.200 When an evil, like you're talking about divine revelation, if a worldly or an evil person takes the Bible and tries to read it, 00:15:01.200 --> 00:15:07.200 they'll, what does scripture say? It is foolishness, right, to those that are perishing. 00:15:07.200 --> 00:15:16.200 It's like, well, how true is that today with people who have evil intent with their machines? 00:15:16.200 --> 00:15:21.200 I'm not saying all machines are evil. I mean, we use machines every day, you know. 00:15:21.200 --> 00:15:33.200 I don't think a washing machine is evil, you know, but certain things, it just, I'm not worried about it. 00:15:33.200 --> 00:15:43.200 And I think when we're talking about hope in the Word of God, hope from the Word of God, there's also that sigh like, hey, look, you're a machine, 00:15:43.200 --> 00:15:50.200 you can't know what we know. And I just think that's just very, I've even used artificial intelligence before. 00:15:50.200 --> 00:15:57.200 I've tried it out to see what it knows and it's very limited. I want you to think about this. 00:15:57.200 --> 00:16:05.200 AI is fed information, right? And it therefore can only pull from that information. 00:16:05.200 --> 00:16:13.200 In order for it to become smarter, you must continue giving it information, right? And that information comes from man. 00:16:13.200 --> 00:16:22.200 So just check this out. How can God go into the machine? I mean, I guess the Lord could. 00:16:22.200 --> 00:16:27.200 I'm not going to say that that can't happen, but it cannot think. 00:16:27.200 --> 00:16:33.200 It just uses what's existing in the database to come to conclusions. 00:16:33.200 --> 00:16:41.200 Well, that's different than if I am revealed something in the Word of God and then I give it information. 00:16:41.200 --> 00:16:48.200 So that's just kind of like, there's a natural, there's a limitation to technology. 00:16:48.200 --> 00:16:57.200 And I realize a lot of people like to use technology as a scare tactic, you know, oh, it's the end of the world with the AI. 00:16:57.200 --> 00:17:04.200 It might be used in the future, sure, but I'm not afraid of technology in of itself. 00:17:04.200 --> 00:17:08.200 I'm more afraid of the use of technology for bad, you know. 00:17:08.200 --> 00:17:19.200 Deep fake technology. That's a pretty scary one. Making someone look like something they're not. 00:17:19.200 --> 00:17:33.200 You know, you can use technology to make a video. Let's just say, let's say Joe Biden, for example, you can make him say something he's never said and it looks real. 00:17:33.200 --> 00:17:43.200 Well, that's a whole other ballgame, right? And I would say yes, there should be regulations on that because how do you stop fraud from happening? 00:17:43.200 --> 00:17:52.200 You know, if it takes to clone your voice, it takes two minutes of you speaking. 00:17:52.200 --> 00:18:00.200 And I've tried it before. I've recorded my voice for an AI just to see if it can duplicate my voice and it can. 00:18:00.200 --> 00:18:07.200 It's not perfect, but it's getting there. But, well, who can use that? 00:18:07.200 --> 00:18:14.200 Well, you can use it if you're lazy, I guess, and you want to pop out audio or something. 00:18:14.200 --> 00:18:21.200 But you can also use that for scam phone calls or, you know, fraudulent activity. 00:18:21.200 --> 00:18:26.200 A lot of it's fun, but you have to be careful with any new thing. 00:18:26.200 --> 00:18:46.200 Yeah, all that to say, though, I know with AI and technology, I used to think, oh, I used to be more of the belief that, oh, you know, technology is going to, you know, use the Bible against us and, you know, use all these things. 00:18:46.200 --> 00:19:07.200 But even if it does, that's different than the divine revelation that comes from God, which I'm like, oh, I'm letting the negativity or the scare tactic get through to me and then think that, oh, the devil's actually going to use the Bible against you and know more than the Lord. 00:19:07.200 --> 00:19:11.200 But that's not true. The Lord knows more than the devil. 00:19:11.200 --> 00:19:17.200 So it goes on to a big thing there, but let's go ahead and move on. 00:19:17.200 --> 00:19:29.200 So totality, right? So we're talking about from the beginning that God's word is true. It's true in the past. It's going to be true in the present and it will be true in the future. 00:19:29.200 --> 00:19:40.200 And no matter what happens with changes in culture or changes in technology or politicians or laws that are passed, God's word will remain true. 00:19:40.200 --> 00:19:46.200 It's beautiful to know that. So totality, it's that all of the word of God is true. 00:19:46.200 --> 00:19:56.200 And when we're talking about specifically, I'm pointing, I don't mean to point out the KJV here, but it's the one that's saying from the beginning, right? 00:19:56.200 --> 00:20:06.200 Well, from the beginning of our Bibles, that's where you would have the sum or the totality or all of Scripture, right? 00:20:06.200 --> 00:20:11.200 That's where it could mean for Psalm 119, 160. 00:20:11.200 --> 00:20:21.200 The very essence, the entirety of it, from the beginning from Genesis to Revelation, that all of Scripture is true. 00:20:21.200 --> 00:20:29.200 So let's turn to 2 Timothy 3 verse 16 in page 1182. 00:20:29.200 --> 00:20:35.200 How many times have we visited this one Scripture, right? 00:20:35.200 --> 00:20:45.200 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. 00:20:45.200 --> 00:20:53.200 And we'll finish it off that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work, right? 00:20:53.200 --> 00:21:05.200 So all Scripture being breathed out by God because God is perfect and God is light in him exists no darkness, right? 00:21:05.200 --> 00:21:11.200 No mud on the flashlight, no imperfection, God is capable of sinning. 00:21:11.200 --> 00:21:21.200 Therefore, the entirety of that which is spoken or that which is inspired by the Lord must be true. 00:21:21.200 --> 00:21:26.200 So we find that when we're talking about the totality of Scripture, it is true. 00:21:26.200 --> 00:21:33.200 It is breathed out from God, like we've talked before, that God breathed on the pages of the Word of God, 00:21:33.200 --> 00:21:41.200 much like how God breathed into humans the breath of life. 00:21:41.200 --> 00:21:52.200 And so that helps us with our understanding of the totality of all of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, from the beginning, in the beginning was the Word, 00:21:52.200 --> 00:21:58.200 or in the beginning God speaking the creation account, that it's all true. 00:21:58.200 --> 00:22:03.200 And in Proverbs chapter 30 verse 5, I'm going to put that on the slide. 00:22:03.200 --> 00:22:11.200 So in Proverbs 30 verse 5, the words of Agar, every word of God proves true. 00:22:11.200 --> 00:22:15.200 He is a shield for those who take refuge in him. 00:22:15.200 --> 00:22:19.200 Verse 6, do not what? 00:22:19.200 --> 00:22:25.200 Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar. 00:22:25.200 --> 00:22:29.200 Nice little stinger right there, right? 00:22:29.200 --> 00:22:38.200 And so, I mean, that's always a good thing when we're thinking about the changing of the Word of God. 00:22:38.200 --> 00:22:43.200 Now I know translation is one thing. Well, what does this mean? Can it mean this? Can it mean that? 00:22:43.200 --> 00:22:51.200 That's very different than I'm going to intentionally change words so that it doesn't mean what it should or what it ought to mean. 00:22:51.200 --> 00:23:01.200 And so that's something that we have to just be on the lookout for. I like looking at the languages and I like looking at the translations. 00:23:01.200 --> 00:23:04.200 Because sometimes it's like, ah, that was a poor choice of words, buddy. 00:23:04.200 --> 00:23:09.200 Other times it's like, you know what, that was actually a really good choice because it conveys the meaning in here. 00:23:09.200 --> 00:23:18.200 Example, when we're looking at the new living translation for Psalm 119, the essence of your words. 00:23:18.200 --> 00:23:22.200 I just love that wording for that. The essence of your words is true. 00:23:22.200 --> 00:23:31.200 But then it's like, we have to be mindful at least, because I know some people are saying, well, I don't like the new living translation. 00:23:31.200 --> 00:23:35.200 Or the King James version is old. Whatever. Look at all of them. 00:23:35.200 --> 00:23:44.200 And if there is a discrepancy like I found in here, or there's different translations, go to the Greek, go to the Hebrew. 00:23:44.200 --> 00:23:50.200 And I would encourage that in any sense to kind of help you with understanding of Scripture. 00:23:50.200 --> 00:24:05.200 And so the question that comes up then is, what are some potential dangers if we only accept or focus on certain parts of Scripture as being true? 00:24:05.200 --> 00:24:13.200 Why is this crucial to trust the truth of all the entirety of God's Word? 00:24:13.200 --> 00:24:21.200 Yeah, looking at the context of Scripture is so critical. 00:24:21.200 --> 00:24:32.200 You find nowadays, biblical illiteracy is probably one of the most dangerous things that's happening. 00:24:32.200 --> 00:24:43.200 And that's a very big thing I know myself, I know my wife, we're very big on is every person needs to be educated in the Word of God. 00:24:43.200 --> 00:24:56.200 It takes a lifetime to learn Scripture, but that's the beauty of it though, is that you continue to let God work in your mind, work in your heart, mold you into who you're meant to be. 00:24:56.200 --> 00:25:10.200 I bring up this question, if we only focus on certain parts of Scripture, if we disregard certain sections and you say, I don't agree with this or I agree with that. 00:25:10.200 --> 00:25:17.200 God is love, but God is also just, God is sovereign, right? 00:25:17.200 --> 00:25:26.200 There's many attributes to God, and unfortunately that does happen more often than I like to admit. 00:25:26.200 --> 00:25:38.200 So we must look at Scripture and say, I'm going to let God work through me, work in me, come what may. 00:25:38.200 --> 00:25:57.200 It's almost like you're meant to, I don't like using the word struggle, it's meant to be challenging though, it's meant to be a constant, we think of refining, making pure like we were talking about last week. 00:25:57.200 --> 00:26:06.200 Well, there's going to be those growing pains, there's going to be times where you're trying to get out that little imperfection or your understanding of Scripture. 00:26:06.200 --> 00:26:10.200 It's a tough question, it's definitely a tough one. 00:26:10.200 --> 00:26:12.200 Well, let's move on. 00:26:12.200 --> 00:26:22.200 The third way of looking at this verse, because you've got to think everything up to this point has been looking at this one verse, is priority of Scripture. 00:26:22.200 --> 00:26:23.200 Right? 00:26:23.200 --> 00:26:35.200 When we're looking at the different translations for Psalm 119 verse 160, all of God's words are true, the essence of the words is true, the sum of your word is true. 00:26:35.200 --> 00:26:40.200 The word is true by word from the beginning, the entirety of your word. 00:26:40.200 --> 00:26:51.200 Well, we also need to realize that the word of God is to be a priority and in looking at the Hebrew, it can mean the top, starting from the top. 00:26:51.200 --> 00:26:54.200 Well, that would mean the priority. 00:26:54.200 --> 00:27:05.200 But it should be a priority in our life, not just one part of our life or some parts, not just some of Scripture. 00:27:05.200 --> 00:27:08.200 All of Scripture should be a priority in our life. 00:27:08.200 --> 00:27:12.200 And we shouldn't just implement it on part of our life, right? 00:27:12.200 --> 00:27:19.200 You hear that, I don't like the saying, but the saying of, you know, you're a Christian on Sunday and you're a sinner on Monday. 00:27:19.200 --> 00:27:25.200 I guess it's true we're all sinners, but that doesn't give you a ticket to sin on Monday, you know? 00:27:25.200 --> 00:27:31.200 You don't just, it's not a jacket or a clothing you change into. 00:27:31.200 --> 00:27:40.200 So the word of God being, and I like using the language of it's at the center of our life, right? 00:27:40.200 --> 00:27:43.200 I understand not everyone is going to be in ministry. 00:27:43.200 --> 00:27:49.200 You're not going to be a police officer or a firefighter, a teacher and do everything in excellence for the glory of God. 00:27:49.200 --> 00:27:54.200 In how you're living your everyday life, you can be an example for others. 00:27:54.200 --> 00:28:01.200 Living your life in such a way where people say, you know, there's something different about Sally or there's something different about you. 00:28:01.200 --> 00:28:03.200 What's different than they talk to you? 00:28:03.200 --> 00:28:06.200 Oh, I'm a Christian or this is how this is what I believe in. 00:28:06.200 --> 00:28:10.200 It's those kind of interactions and conversations that's so critical. 00:28:10.200 --> 00:28:13.200 So that's why we have it in priority. 00:28:13.200 --> 00:28:19.200 So let's go to Psalm 12 on page 528. 00:28:19.200 --> 00:28:34.200 So Psalm 1, blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the seat of scoffers, right? 00:28:34.200 --> 00:28:44.200 But his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night. 00:28:44.200 --> 00:28:48.200 Is this verse showing the priority of scripture, right? 00:28:48.200 --> 00:28:54.200 The priority of reading and studying scripture, so to speak. 00:28:54.200 --> 00:28:57.200 Day and night. 00:28:57.200 --> 00:28:59.200 That's a challenge. 00:28:59.200 --> 00:29:04.200 It's a challenge for all of us. 00:29:04.200 --> 00:29:08.200 How does one meditate day and night on God's word? 00:29:08.200 --> 00:29:12.200 And delighting in God's word is another thing. 00:29:12.200 --> 00:29:15.200 I have to read my Bible again. 00:29:15.200 --> 00:29:19.200 So part of it's having a habit of reading the word of God. 00:29:19.200 --> 00:29:22.200 The other part of it is the heart of reading it. 00:29:22.200 --> 00:29:30.200 When you think of children or teenagers, I have to read my Bible, do I have to pray to the Lord again? 00:29:30.200 --> 00:29:34.200 Well, which it's a lot of discipline there. 00:29:34.200 --> 00:29:41.200 The habit of reading God's word, the habit of praying, then also doing it with a joyful heart. 00:29:41.200 --> 00:29:52.200 Doing it with joy, not being angry or rolling your eyes at saying your prayers or whatever it is. 00:29:52.200 --> 00:29:54.200 So that's just a good one. 00:29:54.200 --> 00:29:57.200 Always a good verse. 00:29:57.200 --> 00:30:02.200 Let's turn to Matthew chapter 4 verse 4. 00:30:02.200 --> 00:30:07.200 Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 00:30:07.200 --> 00:30:14.200 After fasting 40 days and 40 nights, he was hungry and the tempter came and said to him, 00:30:14.200 --> 00:30:19.200 If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread. 00:30:19.200 --> 00:30:25.200 But he answered, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, 00:30:25.200 --> 00:30:32.200 but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. 00:30:32.200 --> 00:30:38.200 I think Jesus won that temptation. 00:30:38.200 --> 00:30:41.200 And so we're thinking about this. 00:30:41.200 --> 00:30:48.200 It's focusing on every word that is in Scripture, having that as a priority. 00:30:48.200 --> 00:30:51.200 And that leads us to our question here. 00:30:51.200 --> 00:30:58.200 What are some reasons we may be tempted to not make God's word a priority in our lives? 00:30:58.200 --> 00:31:01.200 What does making Scripture a priority look like practically? 00:31:01.200 --> 00:31:07.200 You can answer that in your own life, or maybe how someone can do that. 00:31:07.200 --> 00:31:16.200 So in researching this verse to see if there's any passages that are connected with Psalm 119, 160, 00:31:16.200 --> 00:31:23.200 I just found that there's not really many connecting verses that are speaking to just this specific language 00:31:23.200 --> 00:31:29.200 about the entirety or from the beginning that all of God's word is truth. 00:31:29.200 --> 00:31:31.200 I did find one. 00:31:31.200 --> 00:31:34.200 And it's going to be next on our slide here. 00:31:34.200 --> 00:31:40.200 It's going to be John chapter 17 verses 13 through 19. 00:31:40.200 --> 00:31:54.200 I will say though, John might, I can't 100% say he's quoting it, but it appears that he's quoting it. 00:31:54.200 --> 00:32:04.200 Because sometimes you see that they're explicitly quoting another verse in the Old Testament. 00:32:04.200 --> 00:32:12.200 It might be. I don't want to say with 100%, but the wording of your word is truth, just like it is in the Psalm, 00:32:12.200 --> 00:32:15.200 is it's a possibility. 00:32:15.200 --> 00:32:17.200 So I'll just leave it at that. 00:32:17.200 --> 00:32:22.200 So John chapter 17. 00:32:22.200 --> 00:32:25.200 So this is the high priestly prayer. 00:32:25.200 --> 00:32:33.200 And we're going to start on verse 13. 00:32:33.200 --> 00:32:35.200 But now I am coming to you. 00:32:35.200 --> 00:32:44.200 And these things I speak in the world that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 00:32:44.200 --> 00:32:46.200 I have given them your word. 00:32:46.200 --> 00:32:53.200 And the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 00:32:53.200 --> 00:33:00.200 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 00:33:00.200 --> 00:33:05.200 They are not of this world, just as I am not of this world. 00:33:05.200 --> 00:33:09.200 Sanctify them in the truth. 00:33:09.200 --> 00:33:12.200 Your word is truth. 00:33:12.200 --> 00:33:18.200 As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. 00:33:18.200 --> 00:33:26.200 And for their sake, I concentrate myself that they also may be sanctified in truth. 00:33:26.200 --> 00:33:29.200 So in reading that, there's a question that comes up. 00:33:29.200 --> 00:33:33.200 Feel free to take a moment. 00:33:33.200 --> 00:33:40.200 In the verses, we were reading here that in verse 14, 00:33:40.200 --> 00:33:46.200 when Jesus is saying, I have given them your word and the world has hated them 00:33:46.200 --> 00:33:52.200 because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world. 00:33:52.200 --> 00:33:57.200 So the question that comes up is how can believers stay grounded in truth 00:33:57.200 --> 00:34:02.200 in a world that often rejects or distorts God's word? 00:34:02.200 --> 00:34:07.200 How can believers stay grounded? 00:34:07.200 --> 00:34:11.199 I think that's probably your best answer there, 00:34:11.199 --> 00:34:19.199 is to just don't put the Bible on the shelf. 00:34:19.199 --> 00:34:28.199 We're talking about how you have worn Bibles compared to pristine looking Bibles. 00:34:28.199 --> 00:34:33.199 How many family Bibles are out there where it looks brand new? 00:34:33.199 --> 00:34:38.199 But certainly, there's nothing wrong with a worn Bible. 00:34:38.199 --> 00:34:44.199 You take care of it just as God is taking care of you. 00:34:44.199 --> 00:34:47.199 Really think about that. God's word is taking care of you. 00:34:47.199 --> 00:34:49.199 It's going to be worn out. 00:34:49.199 --> 00:34:53.199 There's going to be times where you accidentally rip a page, 00:34:53.199 --> 00:34:55.199 or you're marking it, or whatever it is. 00:34:55.199 --> 00:34:59.199 You drop your Bible, but it's going to take care of you. 00:34:59.199 --> 00:35:04.199 It's a very spiritual way of looking at the Bible, 00:35:04.199 --> 00:35:08.199 but I don't find any wrong in that though. 00:35:08.199 --> 00:35:13.199 Staying grounded in God's word, 00:35:13.199 --> 00:35:18.199 reading it, studying it, looking at the context, 00:35:18.199 --> 00:35:21.199 looking at the connections, and then seeing, 00:35:21.199 --> 00:35:25.199 okay, that's what you meant here. 00:35:25.199 --> 00:35:29.199 Christ is quoting this Psalm, let's say. 00:35:29.199 --> 00:35:31.199 What does the Psalm say? 00:35:31.199 --> 00:35:34.199 When Christ is saying, you have heard this, 00:35:34.199 --> 00:35:37.199 well, there's more to what was quoted there. 00:35:37.199 --> 00:35:40.199 He's just quoting a certain part to it. 00:35:40.199 --> 00:35:44.199 It's just very, very good to... 00:35:44.199 --> 00:35:48.199 How are we grounded in truth is by opening God's word 00:35:48.199 --> 00:35:52.199 and allowing our Bibles to get worn, so to speak. 00:35:52.199 --> 00:35:55.199 God's word's going to be preserved anyways, 00:35:55.199 --> 00:35:57.199 so you shouldn't be afraid of opening your Bible 00:35:57.199 --> 00:36:01.199 many different times. 00:36:01.199 --> 00:36:05.199 So I want us to focus on verse 17 of that. 00:36:05.199 --> 00:36:10.199 John 17, chapter 17, verse 17, 00:36:10.199 --> 00:36:15.199 which says to sanctify them in the truth. 00:36:15.199 --> 00:36:20.199 Your word is truth. 00:36:20.199 --> 00:36:26.199 For most of the translations, I usually do about five or six of them. 00:36:26.199 --> 00:36:30.199 The NIV, sanctify them by the truth. 00:36:30.199 --> 00:36:32.199 Your word is truth. 00:36:32.199 --> 00:36:36.199 ESV, sanctify them in the truth. 00:36:36.199 --> 00:36:38.199 Your word is truth. 00:36:38.199 --> 00:36:42.199 KJV, sanctify them through thy word. 00:36:42.199 --> 00:36:44.199 Thy word is truth. 00:36:44.199 --> 00:36:48.199 New King James, sanctify them by your truth. 00:36:48.199 --> 00:36:50.199 Your word is truth. 00:36:50.199 --> 00:36:52.199 So it's pretty much... 00:36:52.199 --> 00:36:54.199 I guess if you want to... 00:36:54.199 --> 00:36:56.199 This one says by or this one says in. 00:36:56.199 --> 00:36:58.199 They're pretty much the same. 00:36:58.199 --> 00:37:00.199 The one that was very different, though, 00:37:00.199 --> 00:37:02.199 is not the amplified version. 00:37:02.199 --> 00:37:04.199 It was the new living translation. 00:37:04.199 --> 00:37:09.199 It says, make them holy by your truth. 00:37:09.199 --> 00:37:12.199 Teach them your word, which is truth, 00:37:12.199 --> 00:37:14.199 which is an incredible run-on sentence. 00:37:14.199 --> 00:37:16.199 But I understand what they're doing. 00:37:16.199 --> 00:37:18.199 They're trying to define what sanctify is. 00:37:18.199 --> 00:37:20.199 I'm like, okay, I can understand that. 00:37:20.199 --> 00:37:24.199 It's a different reading level, so to speak. 00:37:24.199 --> 00:37:27.199 So then that comes up with the question then, 00:37:27.199 --> 00:37:29.199 is how does someone get sanctified? 00:37:29.199 --> 00:37:35.199 So take a moment and think about that. 00:37:35.199 --> 00:37:38.199 I like that you bring up that. 00:37:38.199 --> 00:37:40.199 To be made holy, right? 00:37:40.199 --> 00:37:45.199 To be sanctified, you must be a Christian first and foremost. 00:37:45.199 --> 00:37:47.199 It's kind of like... 00:37:47.199 --> 00:37:54.199 You have some Christians who think you can... 00:37:54.199 --> 00:37:56.199 I'm not going to say Christians. 00:37:56.199 --> 00:37:58.199 Let me rephrase this. 00:37:58.199 --> 00:38:03.199 There are some people that believe you can bypass. 00:38:03.199 --> 00:38:06.199 You can receive all the blessings of God 00:38:06.199 --> 00:38:09.199 without becoming a believer. 00:38:09.199 --> 00:38:11.199 And that's incorrect. 00:38:11.199 --> 00:38:14.199 You have to become a believer first and foremost 00:38:14.199 --> 00:38:19.199 to understand the intricacies of Scripture to be sanctified. 00:38:19.199 --> 00:38:21.199 That's the beauty of Scripture, 00:38:21.199 --> 00:38:25.199 is that God is molding you, right? 00:38:25.199 --> 00:38:28.199 That you're going to go through this changing process 00:38:28.199 --> 00:38:33.199 to be more like Jesus, and that's just beautiful. 00:38:33.199 --> 00:38:36.199 So let's go with the answering of the question. 00:38:36.199 --> 00:38:40.199 So someone gets sanctified, hit it right on the nail. 00:38:40.199 --> 00:38:43.199 Must be a Christian first and foremost. 00:38:43.199 --> 00:38:48.199 And then allow for the truth to dwell within you, right? 00:38:48.199 --> 00:38:50.199 That's what this verse is saying. 00:38:50.199 --> 00:38:52.199 When Christ is saying, 00:38:52.199 --> 00:38:54.199 sanctify them by the truth. 00:38:54.199 --> 00:38:56.199 Well, what is the truth? 00:38:56.199 --> 00:38:57.199 Your word is truth. 00:38:57.199 --> 00:39:00.199 It answers the question right then and there. 00:39:00.199 --> 00:39:05.199 And we find that that word sanctify is used in the Lord's prayer. 00:39:05.199 --> 00:39:09.199 Our Father, hallowed be your name. 00:39:09.199 --> 00:39:12.199 It's the same Greek word that's used. 00:39:12.199 --> 00:39:14.199 In this context though, he's saying, 00:39:14.199 --> 00:39:17.199 Holy is your name. 00:39:17.199 --> 00:39:18.199 So whenever you read, 00:39:18.199 --> 00:39:22.199 Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, 00:39:22.199 --> 00:39:24.199 hallowed be your name, 00:39:24.199 --> 00:39:28.199 you're saying basically, Our Father, Holy is your name. 00:39:28.199 --> 00:39:31.199 So that's one way of reading it. 00:39:31.199 --> 00:39:33.199 Now, I mean, you don't have to change it. 00:39:33.199 --> 00:39:36.199 Just understand what it's saying in here. 00:39:36.199 --> 00:39:38.199 Let's go to 1 Corinthians. 00:39:38.199 --> 00:39:39.199 So there's two more verses, 00:39:39.199 --> 00:39:44.199 and I'm going to go into the chart here. 00:39:44.199 --> 00:39:53.199 So 1 Corinthians 6 11 in page 1134, 00:39:53.199 --> 00:39:55.199 verse 11, 00:39:55.199 --> 00:39:58.199 as such were some of you. 00:39:58.199 --> 00:40:00.199 You were once this way, right? 00:40:00.199 --> 00:40:03.199 You were once a idolatry. 00:40:03.199 --> 00:40:06.199 You were once sexually immoral. 00:40:06.199 --> 00:40:09.199 As such were some of you, 00:40:09.199 --> 00:40:11.199 but you were washed. 00:40:11.199 --> 00:40:14.199 You were sanctified. 00:40:14.199 --> 00:40:19.199 You were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ 00:40:19.199 --> 00:40:22.199 and by the spirit of our God, amen. 00:40:22.199 --> 00:40:24.199 Right? 00:40:24.199 --> 00:40:26.199 So seeing in that, 00:40:26.199 --> 00:40:30.199 the verse is significant because it helps us to understand 00:40:30.199 --> 00:40:33.199 that Christ's sacrifice on the cross, 00:40:33.199 --> 00:40:35.199 we were justified, right? 00:40:35.199 --> 00:40:39.199 But also in this specific verse, 00:40:39.199 --> 00:40:41.199 and we'll see in the next one as well, 00:40:41.199 --> 00:40:44.199 that we were sanctified. 00:40:44.199 --> 00:40:47.199 So that's why in doing all this research, 00:40:47.199 --> 00:40:49.199 I'm like, I need to make a chart, 00:40:49.199 --> 00:40:51.199 so I don't confuse anyone here. 00:40:51.199 --> 00:40:55.199 So the question that comes up from the 1 Corinthians passage is, 00:40:55.199 --> 00:40:57.199 how does being washed, 00:40:57.199 --> 00:40:59.199 how does being sanctified and justified, 00:40:59.199 --> 00:41:02.199 how do they relate to each other, 00:41:02.199 --> 00:41:06.199 and what role does each part play in our salvation? 00:41:06.199 --> 00:41:09.199 So take a moment. 00:41:09.199 --> 00:41:12.199 Being washed by the blood of the Lamb, right? 00:41:12.199 --> 00:41:16.199 So it's talking about Jesus Christ dying on the cross, right? 00:41:16.199 --> 00:41:19.199 Being washed from our sins. 00:41:19.199 --> 00:41:21.199 As we've mentioned before, 00:41:21.199 --> 00:41:25.199 it all begins with believing in the Lord, right? 00:41:25.199 --> 00:41:27.199 You believe in the Lord, 00:41:27.199 --> 00:41:29.199 you are washed clean, 00:41:29.199 --> 00:41:33.199 you are justified, and then there's sanctification, right? 00:41:33.199 --> 00:41:36.199 And it is out of order technically, 00:41:36.199 --> 00:41:38.199 but they're all there. 00:41:38.199 --> 00:41:41.199 And you'll see when we're going to get to that chart, 00:41:41.199 --> 00:41:44.199 sooner or later, 00:41:44.199 --> 00:41:47.199 you'll see in this next verse then, 00:41:47.199 --> 00:41:53.199 that it also is talking about sanctification. 00:41:53.199 --> 00:41:58.199 So we're seeing kind of thinking of everything we've gone over. 00:41:58.199 --> 00:42:05.199 We're seeing that all of God's word is true, right? 00:42:05.199 --> 00:42:08.199 From the beginning of time, the beginning of Scripture, 00:42:08.199 --> 00:42:12.199 all of that should be priority in our life. 00:42:12.199 --> 00:42:15.199 And then we're learning about here, 00:42:15.199 --> 00:42:22.199 about how we get sanctified by the word, right? 00:42:22.199 --> 00:42:24.199 How Christ is saying to the Lord, 00:42:24.199 --> 00:42:29.199 sanctify them in the truth, God's word is truth. 00:42:29.199 --> 00:42:32.199 So let's move to this next passage. 00:42:32.199 --> 00:42:36.199 Hebrews chapter 10 verse 14. 00:42:36.199 --> 00:42:39.199 This is our last verse. 00:42:39.199 --> 00:42:42.199 Verses 10 through 14. 00:42:42.199 --> 00:42:47.199 Let me see here. 00:42:47.199 --> 00:42:50.199 And by that, 00:42:50.199 --> 00:42:54.199 by that will, we have been sanctified 00:42:54.199 --> 00:42:58.199 through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ 00:42:58.199 --> 00:43:01.199 once for all, one and done. 00:43:01.199 --> 00:43:06.199 Jesus does not have to go on to the cross again, right? 00:43:06.199 --> 00:43:09.199 So once for all. 00:43:09.199 --> 00:43:11.199 Verse 11. 00:43:11.199 --> 00:43:15.199 And every priest stands daily at his service, 00:43:15.199 --> 00:43:18.199 offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, 00:43:18.199 --> 00:43:21.199 which can never take away sins. 00:43:21.199 --> 00:43:22.199 Uh-oh. 00:43:22.199 --> 00:43:25.199 But when Christ had offered for all, 00:43:25.199 --> 00:43:29.199 all time a single sacrifice for sins, 00:43:29.199 --> 00:43:32.199 he sat down at the right hand of God, 00:43:32.199 --> 00:43:36.199 waiting from that time until his enemies 00:43:36.199 --> 00:43:39.199 should be made a footstool for his feet. 00:43:39.199 --> 00:43:41.199 Verse 14. 00:43:41.199 --> 00:43:43.199 For by a single offering, 00:43:43.199 --> 00:43:47.199 he has perfected for all time 00:43:47.199 --> 00:43:50.199 those who are being sanctified. 00:43:50.199 --> 00:43:54.199 So we see this in verse 10, right? 00:43:54.199 --> 00:43:57.199 By that will, we have been sanctified 00:43:57.199 --> 00:44:01.199 through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all. 00:44:01.199 --> 00:44:03.199 And then verse 14. 00:44:03.199 --> 00:44:07.199 A single offering, he has perfected for all time 00:44:07.199 --> 00:44:10.199 those who are being sanctified. 00:44:10.199 --> 00:44:12.199 Okay. 00:44:12.199 --> 00:44:16.199 So I bring this verse up because it's talking about sanctification 00:44:16.199 --> 00:44:22.199 and what happens as part of our salvation story, so to speak, right? 00:44:22.199 --> 00:44:26.199 Our aim should be to know Jesus Christ, 00:44:26.199 --> 00:44:28.199 to believe in him. 00:44:28.199 --> 00:44:33.199 And from that belief, it starts our spiritual walk in Christ, right? 00:44:33.199 --> 00:44:36.199 You'll hear me say in sermons sometimes, 00:44:36.199 --> 00:44:40.199 my hope is that you have a spiritual journey towards Christ, right? 00:44:40.199 --> 00:44:43.199 Well, it's to get to Christ, 00:44:43.199 --> 00:44:48.199 from that point, you're on a much better journey, so to speak, right? 00:44:48.199 --> 00:44:51.199 You're on a journey of being sanctified in. 00:44:51.199 --> 00:44:53.199 There's justification, there's purification, 00:44:53.199 --> 00:44:55.199 there's all these things that are happening 00:44:55.199 --> 00:45:00.199 when we're thinking about our life in Christ. 00:45:00.199 --> 00:45:06.199 And so I wanna, you know, we were justified in faith, 00:45:06.199 --> 00:45:12.199 we are sanctified, so there's the ongoing sanctification process, purification process. 00:45:12.199 --> 00:45:16.199 So in these verses, justification was one and done. 00:45:16.199 --> 00:45:18.199 Sanctification is ongoing. 00:45:18.199 --> 00:45:21.199 So we'll get to that chart and it'll make a lot more sense. 00:45:21.199 --> 00:45:25.199 So we have the final question here, which is, 00:45:25.199 --> 00:45:30.199 why was Christ's sacrifice necessary for our sanctification? 00:45:30.199 --> 00:45:33.199 How does his sacrifice make us holy? 00:45:33.199 --> 00:45:36.199 Just like we were reading in those verses, right? 00:45:36.199 --> 00:45:39.199 Once and for all. 00:45:39.199 --> 00:45:42.199 But all of this to keep in mind, 00:45:42.199 --> 00:45:48.199 it is through believing in Jesus Christ that we receive salvation in him, 00:45:48.199 --> 00:45:55.199 and by receiving salvation, we are justified because of the sacrifice that Christ made for us, 00:45:55.199 --> 00:45:56.199 one and done. 00:45:56.199 --> 00:46:01.199 In being justified, we begin on the spiritual journey towards holiness, 00:46:01.199 --> 00:46:05.199 being Christ-like, being sanctified. 00:46:05.199 --> 00:46:10.199 And God's word being true will lead us to the saving knowledge of him 00:46:10.199 --> 00:46:15.199 and will continue to work upon us in believing in him. 00:46:15.199 --> 00:46:19.199 And so that leads us to this chart on here. 00:46:19.199 --> 00:46:23.199 I did not put it on the screen, so this is, we'll go over it together. 00:46:23.199 --> 00:46:30.199 So what you see on here, to help me understand what I'm gonna be teaching on, 00:46:30.199 --> 00:46:32.199 I wanted to make sure everything was correct. 00:46:32.199 --> 00:46:38.199 Those two verses of the Hebrews' passage, the Hebrews and 1 Corinthians' passage, 00:46:38.199 --> 00:46:42.199 are talking about what's known as immediate sanctification. 00:46:42.199 --> 00:46:46.199 So I'm gonna go from the top and I'll go down here, okay? 00:46:46.199 --> 00:46:54.199 So you see the first four verses on the Romans, Romans 10-17, James 1-21, John 17-3, 00:46:54.199 --> 00:46:59.199 and the 1 Corinthians, I guess I did not put a one or a two there. 00:46:59.199 --> 00:47:01.199 You hear the word, right? 00:47:01.199 --> 00:47:03.199 You hear the word of God. 00:47:03.199 --> 00:47:07.199 That is the implanted word, right, as we've talked about. 00:47:07.199 --> 00:47:11.199 The seed that is being scattered onto the soil, 00:47:11.199 --> 00:47:17.199 and it, you keep preaching and teaching the word of God until someone has the saving knowledge 00:47:17.199 --> 00:47:19.199 and they get it. 00:47:19.199 --> 00:47:23.199 They learn about who Jesus Christ is and they make a decision for Christ. 00:47:23.199 --> 00:47:26.199 They believe in him, as the scripture says. 00:47:26.199 --> 00:47:28.199 Then they believe in the word. 00:47:28.199 --> 00:47:30.199 They believe in Christ. 00:47:30.199 --> 00:47:34.199 That leads them to salvation, right? 00:47:34.199 --> 00:47:41.199 So as that happens, that top triangle, you have the indwelling of the word, right? 00:47:41.199 --> 00:47:46.199 That the word of Christ dwells within us richly as we have gone over, right? 00:47:46.199 --> 00:47:50.199 And you're allowing for the word of God to mold you. 00:47:50.199 --> 00:47:55.199 On that, the end part, the word abiding in us. 00:47:55.199 --> 00:48:01.199 As you are growing that you are, the word is abiding in us as 1 John is saying. 00:48:01.199 --> 00:48:08.199 So when you are saved, okay, we have the salvation plan from the Lord. 00:48:08.199 --> 00:48:14.199 We have the justification, the sanctification and the glorification, okay? 00:48:14.199 --> 00:48:17.199 Being justified, the one and done through Christ. 00:48:17.199 --> 00:48:20.199 So done deal as those verses say. 00:48:20.199 --> 00:48:24.199 Then there's sanctification and I'm leaving that for last, okay? 00:48:24.199 --> 00:48:29.199 Because that's where the third triangle is, immediate, ongoing and final. 00:48:29.199 --> 00:48:38.199 So justification by faith, sanctification, the ongoing process of being made more holy and glorification at the end. 00:48:38.199 --> 00:48:43.199 And we're talking about the end of days as Christ mentions. 00:48:43.199 --> 00:48:51.199 So in terms of sanctification, what I found very interesting in those two verses, Hebrews 10, 10 and 1 Corinthians 6, 11, 00:48:51.199 --> 00:48:55.199 is that it's talking about, well, it says you were sanctified. 00:48:55.199 --> 00:49:00.199 Wait a minute, is sanctification ongoing or is it immediate? Which one is it? 00:49:00.199 --> 00:49:04.199 There seems to be two sanctifications. What does that mean? 00:49:04.199 --> 00:49:12.199 Well, the moment that you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, you're justified and you're sanctified. 00:49:12.199 --> 00:49:19.199 Now, from that sanctification, it continues, it begins at that moment. Does that make sense? 00:49:19.199 --> 00:49:25.199 So the immediate sanctification is you are made holy, but you're going to continue to be holy. 00:49:25.199 --> 00:49:34.199 Just like how there are verses that are saying, you're saved, there's this idea in James, ongoing salvation, right? 00:49:34.199 --> 00:49:37.199 You're working out your faith, those passages, right? 00:49:37.199 --> 00:49:43.199 But what it's talking about is you're saved, but you're going to continue to be molded. 00:49:43.199 --> 00:49:49.199 It's the ongoing salvation, much like there's the ongoing sanctification. 00:49:49.199 --> 00:49:57.199 And then finally, as you are being made holy, you then have the final holiness, right? 00:49:57.199 --> 00:50:06.199 Wesleyan traditions, Nazarene churches and Methodists believe that you can reach complete holiness in this life before death. 00:50:06.199 --> 00:50:10.199 Other Christians would argue, well, no, you're not completely holy until you die. 00:50:10.199 --> 00:50:18.199 There's a small discrepancy there that depends on your theology, but at the end of it, you will be holy. 00:50:18.199 --> 00:50:27.199 I would personally be more of the belief that you are not holy completely until death, right? 00:50:27.199 --> 00:50:30.199 But there are some that will disagree with that, but I'm not going there. 00:50:30.199 --> 00:50:36.199 All that to say, you're on a process of being more Christ-like, being more holy in that. 00:50:36.199 --> 00:50:42.199 So that final triangle is the process that is kind of in line, right? 00:50:42.199 --> 00:50:47.199 So immediate sanctification is in line with justification, so to speak. 00:50:47.199 --> 00:50:55.199 Ongoing sanctification is how we understand sanctification as it's, okay, now you're a Christian, now God's going to work in you. 00:50:55.199 --> 00:51:01.199 Well, the final sanctification is very similar to what we would call glorification. 00:51:01.199 --> 00:51:16.199 So they're all kind of, it's complicated, but making a visual like this, I'm like, oh my gosh, this makes so much sense that it's part of our growth process, so to speak, that there is all of this here. 00:51:16.199 --> 00:51:22.199 And so I hope that this chart will help you in understanding this. 00:51:22.199 --> 00:51:33.199 This chart might grow as time goes on, but this was all I had time for. It took me a couple hours to find the verses and then make it look pretty like this. 00:51:33.199 --> 00:51:40.199 So, because originally, as I mentioned, this is what you were going to get. 00:51:40.199 --> 00:51:47.199 I mean, that was drawing it out and trying to have it all make sense, but this looks a lot cleaner for you. 00:51:47.199 --> 00:52:00.199 It's definitely a lot. I mean, we can expand this into, this whole chart would be our life, right? Our life in Christ. 00:52:00.199 --> 00:52:11.199 There's the whole before your life in Christ, right? There's the Christ life and then after this would be the reign of Christ, right? 00:52:11.199 --> 00:52:26.199 When we're talking about the end, the end, right? The final end, right? And so it would take a lot more time to make something, but I really, I think I'll start making more charts like this, 00:52:26.199 --> 00:52:37.199 because I'm feeling like this will help people in their faith journey, because when we're talking about biblical literacy, part of it is understanding, 00:52:37.199 --> 00:52:43.199 okay, what does the Word of God say? But the other part of it is how is this all connected with each other? 00:52:43.199 --> 00:52:50.199 All right, I'm reading a passage about being sanctified. Well, what does that do with the big picture, right? In understanding our faith? 00:52:50.199 --> 00:53:02.199 And so, yeah, I don't know if what I'll do with this, but I'll have it available online. I know I'll have that there. 00:53:02.199 --> 00:53:19.199 What I didn't point out is the on the sanctification part is in the triangle, the John 1717 1 Peter 2 2 and Hebrews 5 13-14 is that we are sanctified by the Word of God, 00:53:19.199 --> 00:53:30.199 going from milk to solid food of the Word, right? So when we talk about implanted Word, right, the seed that gets planted into us, 00:53:30.199 --> 00:53:39.199 well, eventually it's going to grow and manifest into saving knowledge, and that continues us through the sanctification process. 00:53:39.199 --> 00:53:46.199 That's why the title of this is the Word, because the Word is what makes all of this even possible, right? 00:53:46.199 --> 00:53:57.199 The Word becoming flesh, which is Christ. So I'm not just saying just the Bible, it's Christ being the Word and the interconnection with each other. 00:53:57.199 --> 00:54:07.199 And so that is, God works in some amazing ways, because I couldn't come up with this myself, man. 00:54:07.199 --> 00:54:21.199 So any questions on this chart or any? Yeah, it's very easy to fall into, well, it's like when you think of Christ saying, 00:54:21.199 --> 00:54:29.199 I came to seek and save the lost. It's such, it's a harsh word to be called lost, right? 00:54:29.199 --> 00:54:40.199 Especially people who have it together, right? People who are successful, people who are educated, people who, what more can I need? 00:54:40.199 --> 00:54:50.199 They have that kind of mindset. And certainly they have what they need in the eyes of the world, but in the eyes of God, they're still lost. 00:54:50.199 --> 00:55:06.199 And it's like, oh, that's a big ouchie for a lot of people. And yeah, just always pray for them, always be that open door for them. 00:55:06.199 --> 00:55:15.199 And that's why when we think about faith comes through hearing, right? 00:55:15.199 --> 00:55:21.199 So how do we get them to hear? That's the challenge, right? 00:55:21.199 --> 00:55:31.199 And then also if they hear it, are they responding to it? Because sometimes you do a Bible study with someone and they get all angry and they don't want anything to do with God. 00:55:31.199 --> 00:55:37.199 And it's like, oh, okay. So let's just pray and we'll get on out of here. 00:55:37.199 --> 00:55:59.199 And so we thank you for bringing us here tonight as we're going over your word. Such connections, such, so much to you, so much to your word, but in all of that, we're thankful for you sending your son, Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. 00:55:59.199 --> 00:56:09.199 We're thankful for the word, your word, being true, being pure, being living and active. 00:56:09.199 --> 00:56:20.199 We're so grateful that we even have Bibles and that we can study who you are. We can learn more about who you are and we can grow in who you are. 00:56:20.199 --> 00:56:36.199 We ask that you mold us and you allow for us to grow. And I pray for this church that everyone that comes through those doors, that they will come to know you. 00:56:36.199 --> 00:56:52.199 Father, this isn't some show. It's not a concert. It's not about me. It's about you. It's about you and your word. And we just pray that lives are transformed. 00:56:52.199 --> 00:57:00.199 People come to know you and that they'll grow in you, becoming the men and women that you want them to be. 00:57:00.199 --> 00:57:14.199 And we pray that through this church, through the people that make up this church, that families will be healed, restored, that there will be transformation in this community. 00:57:14.199 --> 00:57:29.199 Lord, reading about the ratio of how many dispensaries there are and the sin that exists out here, we realize that there is a way that seems right, and that way leads to death. 00:57:29.199 --> 00:57:45.199 But we know that you provide hope, hope for those that are lost. And we ask that your word can be preached, that it can be taught, and that people hear and respond to your word by believing in you. 00:57:45.199 --> 00:57:52.199 For it is in you that we find new life. It is in you that we find salvation. 00:57:52.199 --> 00:58:02.199 I mean, most especially would like to pray for those who they say they don't need a savior, or they say they've paid their dues. 00:58:02.199 --> 00:58:16.199 The ones who have completely written you off, we pray that your word will be that implanted seed in their lives, that you'll move in their hearts. 00:58:16.199 --> 00:58:23.199 You'll move in their lives for them to come to know who you are. 00:58:23.199 --> 00:58:37.199 We pray for our families. We pray for this community. We pray for our children, our cousins, our relatives, our families, the ones that don't know you. 00:58:37.199 --> 00:58:50.199 We pray for this next generation, that there will be men and women who come to know you and be on fire for you and on fire for your word. 00:58:50.199 --> 00:58:57.199 That they will be that light that comes from you. They will exhibit love and truth. 00:58:57.199 --> 00:59:09.199 For it is through Christ that you have given grace and truth. And so we ask that you are with us as we go from this place for the rest of the week. 00:59:09.199 --> 00:59:19.199 So we thank you so much for bringing us here tonight.
