Gazette, saying that the circus came to tongue. 00:07:27.899 --> 00:07:30.899 And I know a lot of young people went along to the circus. 00:07:30.899 --> 00:07:33.899 And I wonder what you saw at the circus. 00:07:33.899 --> 00:07:35.899 Maybe you saw clowns. 00:07:35.899 --> 00:07:40.899 Maybe you saw acts taking place that were quite funny and lots of different things. 00:07:40.899 --> 00:07:47.899 But very often in a circus, when we think back, circuses often had animals that would come along as well. 00:07:47.899 --> 00:07:51.899 So I don't know if there was any animals at the circus in tongue. 00:07:51.899 --> 00:07:55.899 Tongue itself is full of enough wild animals without the circus bringing even more. 00:07:55.899 --> 00:07:59.899 But I know in the past they used to take animals to circus. 00:07:59.899 --> 00:08:05.899 And it reminds me of a story I heard about a minister who once took his child to the circus. 00:08:05.899 --> 00:08:11.899 And during the circus they had the same kind of acts with clowns coming in and doing funny things. 00:08:11.899 --> 00:08:14.899 But this circus also had animals that they brought in. 00:08:14.899 --> 00:08:17.899 And one of the animals was an elephant. 00:08:17.899 --> 00:08:19.899 A big elephant. 00:08:19.899 --> 00:08:25.899 And as one of the clowns, the last act that was on, when he was doing his funny stuff, 00:08:25.899 --> 00:08:28.899 he had this big hat on, on his head. 00:08:28.899 --> 00:08:31.899 He was a wee clown but he had a really big hat on his head. 00:08:31.899 --> 00:08:38.899 And at the end of his part, when he was finished his act, he bowed in front of the crowd. 00:08:38.899 --> 00:08:40.899 And as he bowed, his hat fell off. 00:08:40.899 --> 00:08:43.899 And what happened to the hat? 00:08:43.899 --> 00:08:46.899 The elephant sat on his hat. 00:08:46.899 --> 00:08:48.899 And it wouldn't move. 00:08:48.899 --> 00:08:52.899 So he tried all kinds of different things to try and get his hat back. 00:08:52.899 --> 00:08:57.899 He started making arm movements at the elephant to get up. 00:08:57.899 --> 00:08:59.899 The elephant never budged. 00:08:59.899 --> 00:09:02.899 He started shouting at the elephant to get up. 00:09:02.899 --> 00:09:04.899 And it never budged. 00:09:04.899 --> 00:09:09.899 And then what he did was he went round the back of the elephant and tried to kick it to see if it would move. 00:09:09.899 --> 00:09:11.899 And he only hurt his foot. 00:09:11.899 --> 00:09:13.899 The elephant still wouldn't move. 00:09:13.899 --> 00:09:20.899 And so the clown came back round and just started shouting and bawling for the elephant to get up. 00:09:20.899 --> 00:09:22.899 But the elephant just wouldn't move. 00:09:22.899 --> 00:09:25.899 So the clown gave up. 00:09:25.899 --> 00:09:28.899 He went to the side and he sat down. 00:09:28.899 --> 00:09:30.899 And then he started to eat some peanuts. 00:09:30.899 --> 00:09:37.899 And all of a sudden, the elephant got up and started walking towards the clown 00:09:37.899 --> 00:09:40.899 because the elephant wanted some of his peanuts. 00:09:40.899 --> 00:09:47.899 And the elephant sat in front of him and started making a movement to show that he wanted some peanuts. 00:09:47.899 --> 00:09:50.899 And then it dawned on the clown and realized, 00:09:50.899 --> 00:09:56.899 all I had to do was offer the elephant some peanuts and he would have got up. 00:09:56.899 --> 00:10:02.899 But the minister who was there with his child realized there was a powerful lesson there for him as well. 00:10:02.899 --> 00:10:09.899 When we are thinking about people all around us and we think about how we motivate people to do things, 00:10:09.899 --> 00:10:11.899 how do we get people to do things? 00:10:11.899 --> 00:10:15.899 Do we just shout and scream or kick out in anger at them? 00:10:15.899 --> 00:10:18.899 That's not what's going to work. 00:10:18.899 --> 00:10:26.899 The minister realized that we have something to offer people to make them realize the greatest gift of all 00:10:26.899 --> 00:10:29.899 and to come and seek this gift themselves. 00:10:29.899 --> 00:10:36.899 He realized our greatest motivation for others to come and know and enjoy what we have is to show them, 00:10:36.899 --> 00:10:43.899 not shouting and bawling and screaming at them, but to show them love, to show them compassion, 00:10:43.899 --> 00:10:46.899 to show them what we have to offer them. 00:10:46.899 --> 00:10:52.899 This clown offered the elephant a peanut and he got up off his hat and he got his hat back. 00:10:52.899 --> 00:10:58.899 And I think when we show that same love to people, when we show that same compassion to people, 00:10:58.899 --> 00:11:03.899 when we show them the love of Christ and the wonder of the gospel that we have, 00:11:03.899 --> 00:11:09.899 that is what will stir people up to come and put their trust in the Lord Jesus. 00:11:09.899 --> 00:11:14.899 So, the clown learned a lesson, the minister learned a lesson, 00:11:14.899 --> 00:11:20.899 and let us all learn a lesson too, that we would show a love for the people around us, 00:11:20.899 --> 00:11:26.899 to make them interested in and long for the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:11:26.899 --> 00:11:29.899 Well, may God bless these thoughts to us. 00:11:29.899 --> 00:11:33.899
