Jared was part of it. 00:10:20.559 --> 00:10:22.899 And then squandering it and then coming home. 00:10:23.019 --> 00:10:25.219 You can hear in the older brother's voice, 00:10:25.219 --> 00:10:27.599 the same thing that 00:12:05.120 Abraham gives Isaac, he carries the wood up a hill for the sacrifice. 00:12:06.539 --> 00:12:09.659 And it said, you're going to kill your son whom you love. 00:12:10.979 --> 00:12:12.219 Your only son. 00:12:12.220 --> 00:12:18.019 We talked about how idols eat us. 00:12:19.560 --> 00:12:29.100 That anything that you love more than God, whether that be like making sourdough bread or heroin, 00:12:29.100 --> 00:12:34.440 that anything that you love more than God will ultimately ruin you. 00:12:34.440 --> 00:12:37.120 Not only just ruin you, it will eat you. 00:12:38.080 --> 00:12:40.240 And you'll never be able to enjoy it. 00:12:40.240 --> 00:12:42.500 And that was a story of grace. 00:12:43.039 --> 00:12:50.000 That Abraham was given his son back after he was able to say, God, I love you most. 00:12:50.000 --> 00:12:52.379 It's only in that situation. 00:12:52.379 --> 00:12:56.379 When you love God most, then you can enjoy the things you love. 00:12:56.879 --> to contend this morning that the American church is seeing a decline 00:14:43.160 --> 00:14:49.960 because of its attempt to divorce itself from suffering. 00:14:49.960 --> 00:14:56.580 And I'm not talking about cancer or sickness, that kind of suffering. 00:14:57.019 --> 00:14:57.920 That's a different sermon. 00:14:59.240 --> 00:15:07.340 I'm talking about a particular kind of difficulty that
