this week, God for sure has been at work 00:02:17.979 --> 00:02:19.400 all throughout the world. 00:02:19.400 --> 00:02:28.460 I also wanted you to see that this plan was a Christocentric plan, that is a disciple? 00:06:53.360 --> 00:06:56.340 What is a disciple of Jesus Christ? 00:06:58.020 --> 00:07:00.180 It's a very basic question, right? 00:07:01.740 --> 00:07:08.020 And we can't assume that everyone in this room is sharing the same answer to that question. 00:07:08.019 --> 00:07:16.919 Because some people think that a disciple of Jesus Christ is like someone who accepted Jesus into their heart when they were three years old, 00:07:17.000 --> 00:07:20.699 but it's not living a life of discipleship to Jesus. 00:07:21.539 --> 00:07:28.879 Or we can think that to be a disciple is to be in a one-on-one mentoring relationship with an older Christian. 00:07:29.459 --> 00:07:32.079 We think of discipleship in terms of programs. 00:07:32.079 --> 00:07:40.639 Or we can think that discipleship, a disciple of Jesus is one of the elite followers of Jesus. 00:07:41.659 --> 00:07:44.879 Those elite people who go into full-time ministry. 00:07:45.659 --> 00:07:50.680 They're kind of the real deal, the SEAL Team 6 of followers of Jesus. 00:07:50.680 --> 00:07:56.620 We need to turn to Jesus. 00:07:58.439 --> 00:08:01.780 Jesus, what do you say a disciple is? 00:08:02.180 --> 00:08:07.480 How does Jesus answer the question, what is a disciple? 00:08:07.480 --> 00:08:14.300 And so this morning, we're going to turn to Mark chapter 8, and we're going to look at 27 through 38, 00:08:14.680 --> 00:08:25.060 and we're going to look at this kind of nice section of God's Word to look to Jesus and to learn from Him what a true disciple is from His lips. 00:08:26.200 --> 00:08:27.879 So here's what this is going to do for us. 00:08:29.160 --> 00:08:36.220 First, it's going to give us as a church a shared definition and description of what a disciple of Jesus really is. 00:08:36.220 --> 00:08:42.420 So we, at one point, as a church, we can say, okay, we're all on the same page of what a disciple is now. 00:08:44.060 --> 00:08:51.560 Secondly, what that will do is help each of us assess our lives in light of what Jesus says a disciple is. 00:08:52.000 --> 00:08:55.580 So all of us this morning need to ask a very basic question. 00:08:56.139 --> 00:09:04.879 When we hear what Jesus says is a disciple, each of us needs to ask, am I that kind of disciple? 00:09:06.220 --> 00:09:08.259 Have I responded to that call? 00:09:09.680 --> 00:09:11.500 That, all of that call? 00:09:13.540 --> 00:09:17.500 Thirdly, what this will do is it's going to help us move forward as a church. 00:09:17.500 --> 00:09:27.399 Because think of your life groups as packs of 21st disciples, century disciples following Jesus together. 00:09:27.919 --> 00:09:34.480 And so when we have a common definition of what a disciple is, now we can help each other move towards Jesus 00:12:49.620 --> 00:12:58.080 First, we see in this passage a Q&A with Jesus. 00:12:58.399 --> 00:13:01.279 A question and answer time with Jesus. 00:13:02.080 --> 00:13:04.759 Verses 27 through 30. 00:13:05.159 --> 00:13:08.340 Jesus has brought his disciples to Caesarea Philippi. 00:13:08.460 --> 00:13:10.679 They've been working together for some time. 00:13:10.860 --> 00:13:14.240 His disciples have been seeing Jesus do amazing things. 00:13:15.220 --> 00:13:17.200 And you've got to know that Caesarea Philippi, 00:13:17.200 --> 00:13:19.640 This is like worship center. 00:13:20.580 --> 00:13:24.160 There was the worship of Baal that took place in Caesarea Philippi. 00:13:24.280 --> 00:13:25.540 The worship of Pan. 00:13:25.680 --> 00:13:26.840 The worship of Caesar. 00:13:27.860 --> 00:13:30.120 It was the Roman cult city. 00:13:31.500 --> 00:13:35.840 So it's very interesting that Jesus would turn to his disciples and say, 00:13:36.420 --> 00:13:37.940 In this town of worship, 00:13:39.540 --> 00:13:41.460 Who are people saying that I am? 00:13:42.700 --> 00:13:46.440 He's asking his disciples what other people think. 00:13:46.440 --> 00:13:47.780 It's like he's taking a poll. 00:13:48.800 --> 00:13:51.420 And his disciples respond in verse 28, 00:13:51.560 --> 00:13:53.840 Well, some people think that you're John the Baptist. 00:13:54.220 --> 00:13:56.260 Other people are saying that you're Elijah. 00:13:56.620 --> 00:13:59.220 Some others are saying you're one of the other prophets. 00:13:59.700 --> 00:14:04.060 These are the heavy hitters leading up
