afford to keep them on the field. 00:05:28.080 --> 00:05:29.500 She refused to come home. 00:05:30.040 --> 00:05:32.879 She knew that God had called her there and would not come home. 00:05:33.340 --> 00:05:36.920 And she grew so burdened for that that it affected her health. 00:05:37.360 --> 00:05:40.360 As well, she deprived herself in order to give to others. 00:05:40.660 --> 00:05:42.920 And she dealt with some malnutrition. 00:05:43.080 --> 00:05:46.560 Her faith became, I mean, her health became poor. 00:05:46.560 --> 00:05:54.259 And finally, she was forced, because she was going to die if she didn't, to get on a boat and start home. 00:05:54.620 --> 00:05:57.680 And it was on that boat on the way home that she died. 00:05:58.920 --> 00:06:07.639 Before she died, she started a special offering because of the great financial need that the International Mission Board had, 00:06:07.740 --> 00:06:10.120 the Foreign Mission Board at that time, had. 00:06:10.120 --> 00:06:16.860 And she started asking for churches to give a Christmas offering for International Missions. 00:06:17.139 --> 00:06:25.879 And after she died, some years later, that offering was named after her, the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. 00:06:26.040 --> 00:06:30.259 Now, so why do we bother to spend so much money on International Missions? 00:06:30.480 --> 00:06:36.720 I will tell you that if we reach our goal this year, if you combine that with our cooperative program giving 00:06:36.720 --> 00:06:42.400 and the portion of our cooperative program giving, because when you give a tithe to this church, 00:06:42.920 --> 00:06:49.580 a portion of that in 2024, 10% of that will go toward the cooperative program. 00:06:49.980 --> 00:06:56.100 Of that that goes to the us out to reach the world for the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:07:56.680 --> 00:07:58.699 We are to share Christ. 00:07:58.699 --> 00:08:04.659 We are to make disciples by nurturing them in his word. locations where many, many small churches 00:10:52.559 --> 00:10:53.919 met around those areas. 00:10:53.919 --> 00:10:58.979 And John, while on the island of Patmos, 00:10:59.620 --> 00:11:01.360 received a vision from the Lord 00:11:01.360 --> 00:11:04.360 of a message that he was to share 00:11:04.360 --> 00:11:07.559 to those seven groups of people. 00:11:08.559 --> 00:11:12.919 He gives individual messages to those seven regions. 00:11:13.719 --> 00:11:16.500 And then the rest of that book is to give them hope 00:11:16.500 --> 00:11:19.000 in the midst of their circumstances. 00:11:19.000 --> 00:11:24.279 The point of the book is to give them hope 00:11:24.279 --> 00:11:28.460 by proclaiming not only a future victory by the Lord, 00:11:29.200 --> 00:11:32.759 but sharing that God has already been victorious. 00:11:33.460 --> 00:11:34.620 He is victorious. 00:11:35.179 --> 00:11:37.320 And we will celebrate that around his throne. 00:11:37.440 --> 00:11:42.399 It's 00:11:59.699 Revelation 1 I absolutely love 00:11:59.699 --> 00:12:03.279 because it's an amazing description of Christ 00:12:03.279 --> 00:12:06.299 walking among the churches that were hurting. 00:12:06.459 --> 00:12:09.299 He's addressing seven churches that are hurting. 00:12:09.299 --> 00:12:14.019 And it says that Christ, and it's a powerful image of Christ, 00:12:14.500 --> 00:12:16.500 is walking among the candlesticks. 00:12:16.579 --> 00:12:18.319 The candlesticks represent the churches 00:12:18.319 --> 00:12:20.519 that are to keep their flame lit 00:12:20.519 --> 00:12:24.159 and are to light the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:12:24.240 --> 00:12:27.579 We're like a candlestick here in the midst of the darkness. 00:12:27.839 --> 00:12:29.419 And he is walking among the candlesticks. 00:12:29.439 --> 00:12:30.179 You know what that means? 00:12:30.359 --> 00:12:32.359 That means that no matter how you're hurting, 00:12:32.859 --> 00:12:34.199 no matter what's going on, 00:12:34.279 --> 00:12:36.139 no matter what the world's doing around you, 00:12:36.139 --> 00:12:38.899 the Lord Jesus loves this church 00:12:38.899 --> 00:12:40.840 and is walking in the midst of us. 00:12:41.159 --> 00:12:44.620 He is there with us, walking with us. 00:12:44.679 --> 00:12:48.720 And then there's an amazing description of heaven at the end. 00:12:48.759 -->
