refusing 00:07:41.279 --> 00:07:43.240 to acknowledge to God. 00:07:44.139 --> 00:07:45.699 There's a wrong that he has done 00:07:45.699 --> 00:07:48.500 that he has covered up. 00:07:48.959 --> 00:07:53.159 And this is why God's hand is heavy on him. 00:07:53.419 --> 00:07:56.459 This is why he's in this state of great turmoil. 00:07:58.519 --> 00:07:59.819 And he has been silent. 00:08:30.660 let's just be clear 00:08:30.660 --> 00:08:33.220 that David does not say right here in this psalm 00:08:33.220 --> 00:08:35.379 what it was that he had done. 00:08:35.440 --> doesn't mean 00:09:09.040 --> 00:09:10.180 that he was less of a sinner 00:09:10.180 --> 00:09:12.639 than the average person 00:09:12.639 --> 00:09:14.540 who had faith in God in his days. 00:09:34.960 --> 00:09:36.259 Was he acting in faith? 00:09:37.120 --> 00:09:40.800 So David was a man just like we are, 00:09:41.300 --> 00:09:43.600 and he was a sinner just like we are. 00:09:43.600 --> 00:09:47.259 He could be talking about a sin 00:09:47.259 --> 00:09:49.560 that was not recorded in the Bible. 00:09:50.639 --> 00:09:51.879 But that being said, 00:09:52.019 --> 00:09:53.639 David's words here seem to fit 00:09:53.639 --> 00:09:55.680 really, really, really well 00:09:55.680 --> 00:09:57.620 with the biggest and most glaring 00:09:57.620 --> 00:10:00.060 moral failure that he had 00:10:00.060 --> 00:10:01.560 as Israel's king. 00:10:02.899 --> 00:10:04.840 If you know the story of King David, 00:10:05.720 --> 00:10:07.560 you know that there was a time in his life 00:10:07.559 --> 00:10:09.379 when he gave into temptation, 00:10:10.219 --> 00:10:13.279 he gave himself to lust 00:10:13.279 --> 00:10:18.239 after the wife of another man, 00:10:18.899 --> 00:10:22.619 and he committed adultery with that woman. 00:10:22.620 --> 00:10:25.440 And then, 00:10:26.080 --> 00:10:28.480 when he found out that the woman 00:10:28.480 --> 00:10:29.480 had become pregnant, 00:10:30.480 --> 00:10:34.019 he murdered her husband 00:10:34.019 --> 00:10:36.480 to cover it up 00:10:36.480 --> 00:10:40.620 and took her to be his own wife. 00:10:42.659 --> 00:10:44.759 There are certain elements of this psalm 00:10:44.759 --> 00:10:48.000 that seem to fit this description 00:10:48.000 --> 00:10:52.059 very well here in Psalm 32. 00:10:53.960 --> 00:10:55.320 We know from the story 00:10:55.320 --> 00:10:57.799 in 2 Samuel chapter 11 and 12 00:10:57.799 --> 00:11:00.620 that this was a drawn-out thing. 00:11:02.100 --> 00:11:04.019 David's sin was in the works 00:11:04.019 --> 00:11:05.360 over a period of time 00:11:05.360 --> 00:11:07.179 as he tried to cover things up. 00:11:07.179 --> 00:11:11.500 And so that fits with David's words here 00:11:11.500 --> 00:11:13.159 about being in great turmoil 00:11:13.159 --> 00:11:14.179 all day long, 00:11:14.299 --> 00:11:15.000 day and night, 00:11:15.139 --> 00:11:16.359 while he kept silent. 00:11:19.939 --> 00:11:21.779 And then when David finally did come 00:11:21.779 --> 00:11:23.799 to confess his sin, 00:11:23.919 --> 00:11:25.579 he says here in the psalm, 00:11:25.719 --> 00:11:27.659 I acknowledge my sin to you 00:11:27.659 --> 00:11:31.019 and did not cover up my iniquity. 00:11:32.079 --> 00:11:33.599 And so it almost seems implied 00:11:33.599 --> 00:11:34.779 in the way he phrases it 00:11:34.779 --> 00:11:35.919 that up till this point 00:11:35.919 --> 00:11:37.699 when David confesses 00:11:37.699 --> 00:11:39.740 he has been covering it up. 00:11:42.179 --> 00:11:43.939 The sense we get in 2 Samuel 00:11:43.939 --> 00:11:45.459 is that David might have got away 00:11:45.459 --> 00:11:46.979 with this from a human perspective, 00:11:47.479 --> 00:11:50.139 but eventually God sent 00:11:50.139 --> 00:11:51.559 the prophet Nathan to David 00:11:51.559 --> 00:11:54.039 to convict David of his sin. 00:11:55.839 --> 00:11:57.219 And what did David do 00:11:57.219 --> 00:11:58.279 when he realized 00:11:58.279 --> 00:12:00.679 that God was not going to simply 00:12:00.679 --> 00:12:02.039 allow him to hide 00:12:02.039 --> 00:12:04.099 this sinful thing he had done? 00:12:05.919 --> 00:12:07.159 David confessed 00:12:07.159 --> 00:12:08.719 to the Lord. 00:12:09.419 --> 00:12:11.419 He admitted what he
