Peter chapter 1 is in essence saying that you show yourself to be one who perseveres, 00:14:06.839 --> 00:14:12.159 one who is called and elect by doing the word of Christ. 00:14:12.159 --> 00:14:20.399 Now, I am not, nor will I ever suggest that we are saved by our works. 00:14:21.079 --> 00:14:23.719 That is not what James or Peter are suggesting. 00:14:24.279 --> 00:14:27.399 And neither is our Lord in his Sermon on the Mount. 00:14:28.360 --> 00:14:31.799 But it is not just the doer of the word of Christ, 00:14:31.899 --> 00:14:37.159 but the doer of the word of Christ who is but they're really doing it under a different power altogether. 00:15:55.620 --> 00:15:59.259 There are many who, under their own power, 00:15:59.580 --> 00:16:03.899 just do outwardly good-looking
