think about 00:10:33.379 --> 00:10:36.379 And this is based on our reading in Isaiah 00:10:36.379 --> 00:10:39.379 Chapter 1, verse 15 to 20 00:10:41.379 --> 00:10:43.379 Jesus predicted 00:10:43.379 --> 00:10:46.379 What does the word predict mean? 00:10:46.379 --> 00:10:50.379 It's like trying to guess in some ways 00:10:50.379 --> 00:10:52.379 What's going to happen 00:10:52.379 --> 00:10:56.379 Some people like to try and predict the football scores 00:10:56.379 --> 00:10:58.379 They look at who's playing who 00:10:58.379 --> 00:11:01.379 And they try and predict what the score is going to be 00:11:01.379 --> 00:11:05.379 And it's not always easy to get that right 00:11:05.379 --> 00:11:09.379 Others try and predict what the weather is going to be like 00:11:09.379 --> 00:11:11.379 They look at the charts 00:11:11.379 --> 00:11:12.379 And they look at what's happening 00:11:12.379 --> 00:11:14.379 And they say, well, it's going to be windy 00:11:14.379 --> 00:11:15.379 Or it's going to be dry 00:11:15.379 --> 00:11:16.379 It's going to be sunny 00:11:16.379 --> 00:11:17.379 They try and predict the weather 00:11:17.379 --> 00:11:20.379 But again, it's hard to get that right as well 00:11:20.379 --> 00:11:23.379 There's so many things we can try and predict 00:11:23.379 --> 00:11:28.379 But in many ways, what we're trying to do is guess what's going to happen 00:11:28.379 --> 00:11:30.379 But when we look at Isaiah 00:11:30.379 --> 00:11:34.379 And as we think of what Isaiah was saying in his day 00:11:34.379 --> 00:11:37.379 He was predicting Jesus 00:11:37.379 --> 00:11:42.379 But not in a way where he was guessing what was going to happen 00:11:42.379 --> 00:11:44.379 You see, when he was looking at this 00:11:44.379 --> 00:11:47.379 He was telling something that was certain 00:11:47.379 --> 00:11:49.379 Something that was true 00:11:49.379 --> 00:11:52.379 Something that was sure and guaranteed 00:11:52.379 --> 00:11:55.379 Because God was giving him a message 00:11:55.379 --> 00:11:58.379 Isaiah was what we call a prophet 00:11:58.379 --> 00:12:04.379 That is someone who came with a message to tell the people from God 00:12:04.379 --> 00:12:09.379 So everything that he was predicting came to pass 00:12:09.379 --> 00:12:12.379 And it's amazing when you think of Isaiah 00:12:12.379 --> 00:12:16.379 He lived 700 years before Jesus was born 00:12:16.379 --> 00:12:20.379 And yet, throughout Isaiah's writing 00:12:20.379 --> 00:12:25.379 All you see is him speaking about Jesus in many different ways 00:12:25.379 --> 00:12:29.379 Isaiah 53 is a very famous chapter 00:12:29.379 --> 00:12:33.379 Where it speaks about how Jesus would die for our sins 00:12:33.379 --> 00:12:37.379 And you've got other passages like Isaiah 9 or Isaiah 6 00:12:37.379 --> 00:12:40.379 That talk about Jesus' birth 00:12:40.379 --> 00:12:43.379 And here in chapter 1 we're seeing in verse 18 00:12:43.379 --> 00:12:46.379 How Jesus is being shown even here 00:12:46.379 --> 00:12:48.379 When speaking about our sins 00:12:48.379 --> 00:12:50.379 That will be dirty like scarlet 00:12:50.379 --> 00:12:52.379 They will be whiter than the snow 00:12:52.379 --> 00:12:56.379 This is because of what Jesus is going to do 00:12:56.379 --> 00:12:58.379 But Isaiah was writing to the people 00:12:58.379 --> 00:13:00.379 Because the people were in trouble 00:13:00.379 --> 00:13:03.379 And what trouble were they in? 00:13:03.379 --> 00:13:06.379 They had forgotten about God 00:13:06.379 --> 00:13:08.379 They had forgotten about God 00:13:08.379 --> 00:13:12.379 And back in the days long before Isaiah 00:13:12.379 --> 00:13:14.379 There was a man called Moses 00:13:14.379 --> 00:13:17.379 And in a book in the Bible, Deuteronomy 00:13:17.379 --> 00:13:21.379 Moses warned by God the people 00:13:21.379 --> 00:13:23.379 Saying, be careful 00:13:23.379 --> 00:13:25.379 In chapter 6 of Deuteronomy verse 12 00:13:25.379 --> 00:13:29.379 Be careful, take care lest you forget the Lord 00:13:29.379 --> 00:13:32.379 Because the people are going to have so many different things 00:13:32.379 --> 00:13:35.379 It's like Christmas had come for them 00:13:35.379 --> 00:13:37.379 They got everything that they wanted 00:13:37.379 --> 00:13:39.379 They went into a land as is described 00:13:39.379 --> 00:13:41.379 Flowing with milk and honey 00:13:41.379 --> 00:13:43.379 They had everything that they wanted in life 00:13:43.379 --> 00:13:46.379 And yet they forgot God 00:13:46.379 --> 00:13:51.379 And that's something that happens again and again and again 00:13:51.379 --> 00:13:54.379 And it happens with us 00:13:54.379 --> 00:13:57.379 Do you forget God? 00:13:57.379 --> 00:13:59.379 Hands up if you forget God 00:13:59.379 --> 00:14:04.379 There's times I have to say 00:14:04.379 --> 00:14:05.379 I forget God 00:14:05.379 --> 00:14:06.379 We all do 00:14:06.379 --> 00:14:08.379 We all forget God at some times 00:14:08.379 --> 00:14:10.379 Because we think we can do without Him 00:14:11.379 --> 00:14:13.379 We can manage fine on our own 00:14:13.379 --> 00:14:15.379 And we can forget how important God is 00:14:15.379 --> 00:14:18.379 Because it's always a danger to us 00:14:18.379 --> 00:14:21.379 And especially as we think of Christmas time 00:14:21.379 --> 00:14:23.379 A time when we're supposed to be thinking about 00:14:23.379 --> 00:14:26.379 The wonder of Jesus coming into the world 00:14:26.379 --> 00:14:29.379 How amazing it is that Jesus was born 00:14:29.379 --> 00:14:31.379 And yet we can get distracted 00:14:31.379 --> 00:14:33.379 We can forget about Jesus 00:14:33.379 --> 00:14:37.379 Jesus who was promised to us 00:14:37.379 --> 00:14:38.379 Somebody put it like this 00:14:38.379 --> 00:14:41.379 To see Christmas through its wrappings 00:14:41.379 --> 00:14:44.379 Becomes more and more difficult every year 00:14:44.379 --> 00:14:47.379 So Christmas becomes so busy 00:14:47.379 --> 00:14:49.379 Whether it's food or presents 00:14:49.379 --> 00:14:51.379 Snowmen or sledging 00:14:51.379 --> 00:14:53.379 These things can be fun and good and right 00:14:53.379 --> 00:14:58.379 But the danger is that we forget about God 00:14:58.379 --> 00:15:00.379 And so that's why we were doing it at the Christmas club yesterday 00:15:00.379 --> 00:15:04.379 We were doing all kinds of different crafts and different stories 00:15:04.379 --> 00:15:09.379 Reminding ourselves of just how precious Jesus is 00:15:09.379 --> 00:15:11.379 Remember you did your snow globe 00:15:11.379 --> 00:15:13.379 Did you all make these? 00:15:13.379 --> 00:15:16.379 You all got them switched on at home? 00:15:16.379 --> 00:15:17.379 Yeah? 00:15:17.379 --> 00:15:19.379 Or did anybody give away to somebody else? 00:15:19.379 --> 00:15:21.379 Or did you have it yourself? 00:15:21.379 --> 00:15:23.379 Now the important thing on this is 00:15:23.379 --> 00:15:25.379 The verse 00:17:16.380 Because I want to go and enjoy life 00:17:17.380 --> 00:17:19.380 Well that's a dangerous thing to do 00:17:20.380 --> 00:17:22.380 Another way of putting it is like this 00:17:22.380 --> 00:17:24.380 Lord make me good 00:17:25.380 --> 00:17:26.380 But not completely 00:17:27.380 --> 00:17:29.380 In other words I want a little bit of room in my life 00:17:29.380 --> 00:17:31.380 Where I can be good for God 00:17:31.380 --> 00:17:34.380 But I can also have a little bit of what I want for myself 00:17:35.380 --> 00:17:37.380 That's not the way either 00:17:38.380 --> 00:17:41.380 He said the third way is the way to go 00:17:41.380 --> 00:17:44.380 He said Lord make me good 00:17:45.380 --> 00:17:47.380 And the only way for that is 00:17:47.380 --> 00:17:50.380 By being washed of our sin 00:17:51.380 --> 00:17:53.380 By being as white as snow 00:17:53.380 --> 00:17:56.380 By putting our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ 00:17:58.380 --> 00:18:00.380 Jesus was predicted by Isaiah 00:18:00.380 --> 00:18:02.380 That he would come into the world 00:18:02.380 --> 00:18:04.380 To save us from our sin 00:18:05.380 --> 00:18:06.380 What we couldn't fix 00:18:07.380 --> 00:18:09.380 00:35:21.380 That my team beat yours 00:35:22.380 --> 00:35:24.380 Doesn't happen for some often 00:35:24.380 --> 00:35:25.380 But when it does 00:35:25.380 --> 00:35:26.380 They let you know 00:35:27.380 --> 00:35:29.380 They tell you that their team has won 00:35:29.380 --> 00:35:31.380 And there are so many things in life 00:35:31.380 --> 00:35:32.380 We love to proclaim 00:35:33.380 --> 00:35:35.380 We love to tell others about 00:35:36.380 --> 00:35:39.380 But what about when we hear Jesus proclaimed 00:35:40.380 --> 00:35:41.380 Do we listen? 00:35:42.380 --> 00:35:45.380 Do we listen to Jesus as he is proclaimed here? 00:35:46.380 --> 00:35:47.380 And as we hear about Jesus 00:35:48.380 --> 00:35:50.380 Do we proclaim him to others? 00:35:50.380 --> 00:35:52.380 Do we share him with others? 00:35:53.380 --> 00:35:54.380 So a woman in the Bible 00:35:55.380 --> 00:35:58.380 She is often described as the woman of Samaria 00:35:59.380 --> 00:36:01.380 And she met Jesus at a well 00:36:02.380 --> 00:36:04.380 And when she heard about Jesus 00:36:05.380 --> 00:36:06.380 When she knew who Jesus was 00:36:07.380 --> 00:36:07.380 00:36:08.380 --> 00:36:09.380 Even though she was afraid of many people in the village 00:36:10.380 --> 00:36:11.380 That she came from 00:36:11.380 --> 00:36:12.380 She went back 00:36:12.380 --> 00:36:13.380 She went back and she said this to
