00:01:50.459 --> 00:01:53.199 He probably hated taking care of those sheep. 00:01:54.280 --> 00:02:01.899 Being at home, taking care of sheep by himself, and his brothers out doing something important. 00:02:02.919 --> 00:02:05.939 At least more important than what he was doing. 00:02:05.939 --> 00:02:13.379 But God used that experience to prepare David to write what was probably the most well-known chapter in all the Bible, 00:02:14.000 --> 00:02:18.979 and what may be the most loved one chapter in the Bible. 00:02:20.020 --> 00:02:29.039 David wrote Psalm 23 from his experience as a boy, as a teenager, taking care of sheep. 00:02:29.039 --> 00:02:35.159 But he wrote from the perspective of one of those sheep. 00:02:36.319 --> 00:02:37.560 Look at it with me. 00:02:37.799 --> 00:02:39.979 I want us to read the first three verses this morning. 00:02:41.019 --> 00:02:46.459 The first verse is where we see David is writing from the perspective of a sheep. 00:02:46.919 --> 00:02:49.259 The Lord is my shepherd. 00:02:50.939 --> 00:02:52.039 God is the shepherd. 00:02:52.399 --> 00:02:52.959 I'm the sheep. 00:02:53.459 --> 00:02:54.539 I shall not want. 00:02:54.539 --> 00:02:56.979 He makes me lie down in green pastures. 00:02:57.340 --> 00:02:59.459 He leads me beside still waters. 00:02:59.959 --> 00:03:01.259 He restores my soul. 00:03:01.859 --> 00:03:06.359 He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 00:03:06.979 --> 00:03:09.659 Last week we looked at the first part of verse three. 00:03:10.000 --> 00:03:11.239 He restores my soul. 00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:15.139 And we saw how the Lord restores us when we need it. 00:03:16.019 --> 00:03:17.500 The way that we need it. 00:03:17.500 --> 00:03:26.259 I pointed out that sometimes the see that once the Lord restores us, however it is that he does. 00:04:53.339 --> 00:04:58.620 Once the Lord restores us, he then guides us in the way that he wants us to go. 00:04:59.479 --> commentators point out that in the places where David would have tended sheep in the land of Israel throughout that time period, 00:06:10.060 --> 00:06:13.180 for many years afterwards, people walked commentators say is that in any given area, there were many well-worn paths that might entice the sheep to go down that trail, 00:06:32.039 --> 00:06:35.120 go down that path and get lost. 00:06:35.120 --> 00:06:38.800 And so the point is a shepherd had to work. 00:06:38.800 --> 00:06:50.340 In David's day, he understood, I've got to work as a shepherd to keep these sheep together and 00:07:05.039 Then, David, he had that experience as a boy, but then he thought about his experience as a man. 00:07:06.439 --> 00:07:10.240 David knew from his own experience of committing adultery and murder, 00:07:10.240 --> 00:07:18.220 that even as a man of God, and you know, he's called, he's the only person in the Bible called a man after God's own heart. 00:07:19.780 --> 00:07:22.960 But
