00:02:27.879 --> 00:02:29.199 which means to elevate, 00:02:29.860 --> 00:02:31.219 to lift him up. 00:02:32.539 --> 00:02:35.259 I will extol the Lord at all times. 00:02:35.259 --> 00:02:38.620 His praise will always be on my lips. 00:02:39.159 --> 00:02:42.079 I will glory in the Lord. 00:02:44.919 --> 00:02:46.739 David is ready to worship. 00:02:47.739 --> 00:02:52.979 And you get the sense that this is not just a one-moment thing. 00:02:54.239 --> 00:02:57.519 He says, I will extol the Lord at all times. 00:02:57.659 --> 00:03:00.259 His praise will always be on my lips. 00:03:00.259 And yet the Lord has done something amazing for him. 00:06:31.500 --> 00:06:34.279 And that's why he's ready to worship and praise. 00:06:34.939 --> 00:06:37.519 He's got him out of the situation he credit and all the glory. 00:07:56.439 --> 00:07:58.580 This is a wonderful story for David. 00:07:58.579 --> 00:07:58.659 David. 00:07:59.219 --> 00:08:06.879 But David wants us to know that this is not just something that God does for him. 00:08:07.219 --> 00:08:09.159 Because David was God's favorite. 00:08:11.219 --> 00:08:16.799 David wants us, as we've just seen, to join with him and worship with him. 00:08:16.800 --> 00:08:24.980 He wants us to think about the troubles that we have in our lives and what God can do about those things for us. 00:08:24.980 --> 00:08:32.940 So that we might 00:08:44.019 And so David, at this point, kind of takes up the role of a teacher in this psalm. 00:08:44.279 --> 00:08:47.960 The rest of this psalm, you could almost call it a wisdom psalm. 00:08:48.060 --> 00:08:51.320 He's going to share with us some of the things that he's learned. 00:08:51.320 --> 00:08:55.080 And many of these things are rooted in his own experience that he has been through. 00:08:55.860 --> 00:08:59.500 But we also know that these are, don't just come from David. 00:08:59.640 --> 00:09:02.120 These are words that come from God himself. 00:09:02.340 --> 00:09:07.600 This is God's wisdom, which comes by his spirit through David to us. 00:09:07.660 --> 00:09:10.260 And so what does David have to say? 00:09:10.879 --> 00:09:16.360 Well, all of it has to do with how things are between the Lord and his people. 00:09:18.260 --> 00:09:21.120 Let's look at verse 18 first. 00:09:21.320 --> 00:09:24.840 David says, 00:09:24.840 --> 00:09:30.260 The Lord, Yahweh, is close to the brokenhearted. 00:09:32.379 --> 00:09:36.060 He saves those who are crushed in spirit. 00:09:39.960 --> 00:09:44.240 David knows what it's like to feel brokenhearted. 00:09:45.100 --> 00:09:49.840 As we just talked about, he's had everything ripped out of his life, torn away from him. 00:09:49.840 --> 00:09:51.540 All the people he loves. 00:09:51.540 --> 00:09:51.680 His wife. 00:09:51.680 --> 00:09:52.879 His wife. 00:09:53.360 --> 00:09:54.500 His family. 00:09:55.180 --> 00:09:56.440 His best friend. 00:09:59.560 --> 00:10:02.540 And what has David discovered in his brokenheartedness? 00:10:03.540 --> 00:10:05.180 That the Lord is with him. 00:10:05.399 --> 00:10:07.019 And not just with him, but close. 00:10:07.019 --> 00:10:15.779 Do you have some brokenheartedness in your heart this morning? 00:10:15.779 --> 00:10:20.600 Do you know that the Lord is close? 00:10:21.899 --> 00:10:22.720 If you do. 00:10:24.439 --> 00:10:28.299 David says experience? 00:10:47.879 --> 00:10:51.120 He saves those who are crushed in spirit. 00:10:52.480 --> 00:10:57.139 Not just David, but all of his people who are in these places. 00:10:57.139 --> 00:11:02.679 In verse 15, David says, 00:11:02.759 --> 00:11:05.980 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous. 00:11:07.039 --> 00:11:09.100 And when we hear that word, the righteous, 00:11:09.980 --> 00:11:11.539 there might be a tendency to think, 00:11:11.659 --> 00:11:13.919 well, does that include me? 00:11:16.419 --> 00:11:20.879 Have I lived good enough to be considered the righteous 00:11:20.879 --> 00:11:23.480 and get that blessing or that promise? 00:11:23.480 --> 00:11:27.060 I'm not going to go too deep into this, 00:11:27.200 --> 00:11:30.980 but we all know that there's those verses that say, 00:11:31.539 --> 00:11:33.360 no one is righteous, not even one. 00:11:33.980 --> 00:11:36.300 But the way that the righteous is being used here 00:11:36.300 --> 00:11:38.399 and often is used in the Psalms and Proverbs 00:11:38.399 --> 00:11:41.440 is not to refer to people who are sinless or perfect, 00:11:41.879 --> 00:11:43.420 because of course nobody is. 00:11:44.180 --> 00:11:45.420 Nobody except Christ. 00:11:46.820 --> 00:11:49.740 It's used generally to refer to the Lord's people. 00:11:49.740 --> 00:11:54.460 To those who consider Yahweh, the Lord, Jesus, 00:11:54.700 --> 00:11:56.600 to be their God. 00:11:57.320 --> 00:11:59.019 To those who trust in him. 00:11:59.139 --> 00:12:01.100 To those who look to him for help. 00:12:01.220 --> 00:12:06.200 righteous. 00:12:20.519 --> 00:12:23.100 And if there's any doubt whether or not 00:12:23.100 --> 00:12:25.740 we make the cut or we're in, 00:12:26.560 --> 00:12:28.360 all we need to do is look to
