So, let's be wise this morning as we think about time. 00:04:37.320 --> 00:04:39.960 I've got three things just to see from this passage. 00:04:40.480 --> 00:04:43.040 Firstly, there is a pattern to was wrong. 00:06:31.439 --> 00:06:32.500 It was a time for war. 00:06:32.959 --> 00:06:36.959 Which is why Winston Churchill was such a timely Prime Minister at that time. 00:06:36.959 --> 00:06:44.079 But it's not, if you look at the poem, it's not like a pendulum swing just between good and bad times. 00:06:44.899 --> 00:06:47.659 Some of these are neither good nor bad. 00:06:48.419 folks would say Back to the Future. 00:09:10.800 --> 00:09:15.399 But in my opinion the greatest time travel movie is Terminator 2, Judgment Day. 00:09:16.240 --> 00:09:17.779 What a great film. then you've got nothing to show at the end and there's no gain. 00:10:53.539 --> 00:10:56.959 Thankfully, though, the teacher does not just have that poem. 00:10:57.019 --> 00:10:59.899 Because he 00:11:15.980 He has also set eternity in the human heart. 00:11:16.220 --> 00:11:21.560 Yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 00:11:21.559 --> 00:11:24.639 And do you see what the teacher is saying there? 00:11:26.639 --> 00:11:31.839 God will make everything beautiful in its time. 00:11:31.840 --> 00:11:34.379 So all that befalls us. 00:11:34.379 --> 00:11:36.320 All that befalls this world. 00:11:36.320 --> 00:11:44.680 All these times are being orchestrated by the great maestro of time into one big beautiful symphony. 00:11:45.680 --> 00:11:47.460 But we can't see 00:12:17.179 --> 00:12:21.219 The answer is we don't know. 00:12:22.479 --> 00:12:24.139 And we're not meant to know. 00:12:25.819 --> 00:12:29.719 The teacher would say that you're a fool if you think you can work it out. 00:12:30.059 --> 00:12:34.879 Part of the frustration of humanity is that we can't work it out. 00:12:35.739 --> 00:12:41.199 As he says in verse 11, we cannot find out what want to know. 00:12:57.419 --> 00:13:02.419 It's frustrating because deep within all our hearts is set eternity. 00:13:04.000 --> 00:13:07.459 We are eternal beings made in God's image. 00:13:07.839 to be a way of governing the world that we would like done. 00:15:14.220 --> 00:15:21.500 And if God doesn't fall into our system, we get angry or annoyed or we feel let down by him. 00:15:23.500 --> the things that I have learned in studying the wisdom literature of the Bible, 00:15:46.179 --> 00:15:51.600 in Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, one of the big things I've learned in studying these wisdom books 00:15:51.600 --> 00:15:56.179 is that there is great wisdom and there is great freedom in saying, 00:15:56.179 --> 00:15:57.459 I don't know. 00:15:59.039 --> 00:15:59.899 I don't know. 00:16:01.219 --> 00:16:02.959 I don't know why you've done this. 00:16:03.019 --> 00:16:04.620 I don't know why this had to happen. 00:16:04.899 --> 00:16:06.500 This is the problem in the book of Job. 00:16:06.759 --> 00:16:10.739 Job's comforters, they have a system on how the world should operate, don't they? 00:16:10.739 --> 00:16:13.399 Good people receive blessings from God. 00:16:13.659 --> 00:16:17.099 Bad people receive punishment from God. 00:16:17.100 --> 00:16:24.060 But Job, the perfect, innocent sufferer, smashes that system apart. 00:16:24.360 --> 00:16:28.680 And they simply cannot believe that God would have caused that to happen to Job. 00:16:28.899 --> 00:16:31.000 He doesn't fit into their mold. 00:16:31.300 --> 00:16:36.000 The wild, untamable God of the Scripture does not fit their system. 00:16:37.940 --> 00:16:44.379 And so we get frustrated with verse 11 because we can't see how on earth God could make these times beautiful. 00:16:44.379 --> 00:16:48.539 It glimpse of the back of the tapestry. 00:17:14.639 --> 00:17:20.279 And if you've ever seen the back of a tapestry, it's all messy and frayed and it seems random and chaotic. 00:17:22.179 -->
